I sold the 1.7 bitcoin I got from it in 2017.. made a great profit on this hand reg the first time round.

Yes, it happens, and possibly more-or-less frequently. My personal favorite is a domain I grabbed (and subsequently sold) four times Last time I had to bid more-or-less seriously to get it on expiring auction, but, since I knew that it is proven to be saleable...
