As I know facebook.com was Thefacebook.com at the beginning time. If your company owns "the+keyword".com, will you be willing to buy "keyword".com?

For example: you were owner of Thelandmark.com, Would you buy Landmark.com?

In order to change domain name at a company, that is very important, you have to change email address for all members and inform your customers know about that....there are many things that have to be changed in your bussiness system.

If the single word .com is taken and developed then a strong The+Word.com can be a good premium alternative that makes a strong brand.

Example: The General Insurance is a very popular and memorable US company that has been very successful using TheGeneral.com, which works really well with their branding because the word used after "THE" is a noun which in their case refers to a high ranking military officer.

In general, I am not much of a fan of domain names that start with The (that being said, I do own 2 of them in a portfolio of about 250 total). However, one place that I think they work well is with the ngTLD extension .site where the combination can add a hint of distinction to the name, and gives the positive message that this is THE site for whatever. One example from my portfolio. I picked up TheBrain.site and in a way like it better than brain.site (available at a high premium price) that sounds not as aesthetically distinguished to me. No inquiries, but I saw it for a reference site on the brain and neuroscience.

The NameBio database shows 7182 domain sales that start with the word 'the' with an average sales price of $1376. Some of the high value ones are:
TheMortgage.com for $500,000
The.club for $300,000
TheRecRoom.com for $89,888 (surprising to me)
TheStores.com for $50,000
TheCube.co.uk for $40,919 (also .co for same price)

You can see the full list at https://namebio.com/?s==IzN1ITO5cTM

Actually my 7182 figure is probably over-estimated as it would include some that started the but would not be intended as that word. e.g. therapists.com sold for $50,000 but hopefully it was not intended as TheRapists.com!

I own at least 2 and would buy more if it's a good fit for the words.

That's a great topic. I think about "The facebook" all the time when I am going to purchase.

Of course there are major stores that brand on a name with The, like Facebook did at first. Among those that come to mind right off are:

https://www.thebrick.com/
The Keg (they have the domain but redirect it to this one)

It is interesting that although they give themselves the title The Home Depot, they don't use it in their main domain (as do many papers, etc.)

I handregged for less than $10 & sold The/Cash/King in com for $1500 some time this year I think...It was an inbound inquiry.

I didn't even find the domain myself; I think someone put a list of available domains together or something. I thought it looked interesting so I got it.

They make good brands, too many examples:

TheGeneral.com (Insurance)
TheShow.com(Playstation owns this for the game MLB The Show)
TheDiamond.com (Diamond store)
TheCompany.com ( Marketing company)

lots of others....hell even Zappos forwards TheShoe.com to their homepage.

The plus keyword are killer. The Blaze, The Atlantic The View, The Verge, etc......there are tons of companies using The in their name. Media companies love them. I wouldn't go out and register a bunch of The plus two keywords but if you can find The plus one good keyword that makes sense then get it.

My view is The + keyword domains are a lame excuse for a company that did not want to spend the money for a better domain. There have been aftermarket sales but given the difficulty of selling domains in general I do not plan to waste money on them.

Agree, right now you'd be lucky to get a The+Word.com for cheap wholesale.

Lame excuse? Not sure if I agree, but if you're having difficulty with sales in general, maybe you need to change your investment strategy.
