I searched but could not find that this already exists, so I thought I would start a thread devoted only to the SPACE ngTLD extension. I see this thread as being a place for several types of items:
  • News regarding the extension (e.g. promotion, where to buy, etc.)
  • Showcase your favourite SPACE domain names
  • Notice of sales announced in the extension
  • Interesting websites making use of the extension
  • Analysis and statistics with respect to the extension
Look forward to your contributions!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I saw on NameBio today a significant sale in of MilkyWay(.)space for $700 on Sedo. I think this makes it the second highest price in publicly announced resales in the extension. Just for fun I ran GoValue, which indicated about $400 for the domain name.

https://namebio.com/milkyway.space

It of course makes sense to use the extension for astronomical/space terms like this.

I like four aspects of .space.

1. One is that it is versatile, and can be used in various ways such as literally space, spaces as collections of people with a common interest, space as a real estate or architectural term, etc.

2. The second thing I like about the domain name is that it has stable and reasonable renewal rates (about $8).

3. The domain name ranks higher in actual website use than many domain extensions with more registrations. According to Namestat data it has 313 sites in Alexa 1M, or one for every 741 registrations - a great rate compared to most extensions.

4. It has excellent lack of abuse statistics. e.g. as of today Spamhaus score is 0.29 for the extension (by comparison .com is 0.65, .net is 1.05, .xyz is 0.61, .top is 5.62, .club is 1.26; lower is better).

A site that has some possible uses for the .space extension, as well as links to actual websites that are using the extension....

Renewal/Transfer rates will be increased by Radix on August'21 to $20+.

Only the domains registered before Aug'21 will remain at current rate.

I have PhotosFrom.Space ( also PhotosFromSpace.com ).

I did not realize that. Disappointing, especially with such a major increase. Thanks for sharing the information - if I register now, my renewal stays at that rate, or I need to actually renew in advance? Is there a link with details?

Alternatively, if you already have .space - you may transfer it for $1.17 to 1and1.

I just came across the following report (a Radix blog posting) on 5 coworking space companies that have used the .space extension for their websites (a natural fit!):

https://get.space/blog/5-coworking-spaces-using-space-domain-extension/

Surprisingly, it does not mention the arguably best know flexible working space company loop.space. For $30 monthly subscription you can work from a space in 42 different countries. Here is a link to their website.

Not many domain extensions are used by a nation, but this one is!

With more than 200,000 residents, and just having had their first parliamentary session, Asgardia The Space Nation has naturally used a .space domain extension. Read all about them at this link:

https://asgardia.space/en/

This has to be one of the more interesting uses of a new domain extension!

What do you mean by reserved? I have not encountered the preponderance of registry owned domains there are in some other ngTLDs.

Do you simply mean already registered? With 260,000 registered domains in .space, it is true that most good words are already registered, although nuggets can still be found, and of course names drop or are sold at bargain prices.

No I mean reserved, I did not expect standard reg fees on premium names but if an extension wishes to succeed they need to make all names available, outer.space = reserved deep.space = reserved rent.space = reserved rental.space = reserved Now try HouseRental.Space and you will see it is registered. Don't believe me? Go to Dynadot and see for your self . The practice of holding back names is stupidity at its worst. You can add Work.Space to list, ho hum ...... time to move on

A Canadian company (no relation to me, don't even know who are the people behind it) seem to be going to use the SPACE extension for a series of sites on office space rental in major Canadian cities. They have hand registered some, and bought at least Calgary as an after market sale.
e.g.
http://TorontoOffice.space/
etc.

As of now, and for at least a few months, just listed as Coming Soon.
