Does anyone actually have any success with outbound marketing !? Whenever i've tried to contact people to offer a domain for sale which may be of interest, if I get a response, which is rare, it's generally along the line of 'stop spamming us & 7!55 off !

Not had a single reply, actually enquiring about the domains, making offers etc

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Maybe you are really spamming ? Or not properly targeting the end users, which is the same.
And the domain names may be too weak, or not relevant to their business needs.
There are a couple threads on outbound.

The domain looks appropriate for targeting used car dealers in the UK. To me, this should have gotten some attention or at least, a how much reply.

I quoted a price which perhaps put them off as it was 'somewhat' less than the .com ! Perhaps they didn't believe the price of the .com or that I was asking so much less, it has to be a scam, can't win either way !? Too cheap....scam, too expensive.....scam !

I have a team which does outbound on daily basis... On an average we receive 4-5 price inquiry on daily basis and close 1 deal in every 2 days so approx 15-20 sales in a month... Most of my domains are hand registered geo domains and selling price is between low to high xxx...

You should start a outbound marketplace for domainers. There are many of us who would be ready to pay 25% to 30% commission. There is currently no such marketplace exclusive for outbound.

The domain is a bit long and not a first choice. The first choice would be usedcars.co.uk.

If you are going to contact end users, you need to offer them a name that is superior to what they are currently using. Everybody can make up longer domains by adding some keyword in front or at the end of the domain. They don't need domainers for that.

That is irrelevant, until the domain actually sells for that much.
People are asking outrageous prices for mediocre domains, but only actual comparable sales could possibly used as a baseline for pricing.

Outbound has a fixed cost involved and it is not practically viable to do outbound for others just on commission basis. Further when i am doing outbound for my own domains and having decent sales from hand registered domains than why to take extra headache and financial obligation by doing it for others.

If anyone is interested to get outbound for their domains on fixed + commission model than that can surely be explored.

Its a 3 word domain and co.uk.... Normally such domains sells easily in low to mid xxx range... Rest its upto the buyer and he may even pay xxxxx for the same.

You can apply the BrandBucket formula. You can take a little submission fee for each name. And you would select the domains and their prices.
This model is there in my mind from the last 8 months, just need a team like yours.

That can surely be explored however as per my experience normally everyone wants to get their domains brokered on commission basis only... Though i too have such plans for the future but presently i am too much tied up with my own portfolio as after gdpr , outbound has become more difficult and time consuming...

That's not the point. I won't even spend £50 on something that I don't need. Businesses are usually rational, they have to be. The expense has to be justified in their eyes. They could afford the purchase, but they need some compelling reason. The majority of people just don't see the point of paying more than regfee for a domain name.

+1 completely agree with that...

You sound like a guy who sells milk to the dairy farm owner.

Know your audience, there are tools available that will track web behavior and target your ideal customers with precision.

The tools alone won't help though, you also need a process with multiple sub processes.

And with each sub process, you need different technologies to make it all work.

This is why not everyone takes this approach, it costs time, money and hard work.

Keep sending emails, the only value it provides is it builds up your rejection resistance stat.

On reflection, decided to drop the asking price 50%, see if I have any luck !

Great.. Give it some time and than you can follow up after 7-10 days for an update. The best solution would be to call up client after a week and directly negotiate regarding the domain. I am assuming that client already inquired about the price so we can assume that he has slight interest in the same.

No actual interested party but perhaps the price reduction may get more response moving forward.

In most cases, there is a deadlock question: why do I need a duplicate site?

All of my sales have been outbound about 13 in a year and half, on top of that I brokered some names as well.

If you are not getting a response, accept the very fact that it is normal. Couple of things I would suggest to increase reply rate is, end the email with an open ended question something like would you be interested? Secondly always follow up, only this week I closed a deal with 7th email, persistence is key and also with followups you might hit them at the right time lastly give them an option to unsubcribe that way you should get polite no thanks responses.

You also get spam and stuff like that, only yesterday I was called domain squatter but I replied as positively and politely as I could.

Best of luck!

In most cases, there is a deadlock question: why do I need a duplicate site?
Larger corporations often have different sites for different markets/industry segments. So they need more than one just domain, not to mention that they usually own lots of ccTLDs to host localized versions of their websites.

But the main motivation for an end user would be to upgrade their current domain name.
So if someone is using onlineusedcards.co.uk or another variation, and you have usedcards.co.uk they should be interested, provided that they see the value and have the budget.
The other way round doesn't work too well obviously. They don't need inferior domains.

It is important for a seller to have answers to the following questions prior to doing an outbound;
  • Who is my audience? An existing used car dealer or, an yet-to-launch used car dealer (as per ur scenario)?
  • If existing used car dealer, does he have an online website? If yes, is his domain name better than yours? If yes, drop it. If no, identify and lay out the benefits of your domain name over his (keyword searches, CPC, valuation, etc). Prospective buyers would like to know one key element 'Whats in it for me?' Remember thats the golden term.
  • If yet-to-launch used car dealer, tell them the benefits of a easy-to-remember domain name and other benefits. For pricing, use data from sites like NameBios to relate to historical pricing ( not 'Asking Prices' on Action sites) and justify selling price.
Frankly, in most scenarios targetting 'yet-to-launch' services are better bets to sell premium names. However, it is not easy to get info on them. A starting point is to dig into Google News and search by keywords like 'upcoming used car dealer/ getting into used car/ launching used car / etc' terms.

All The Best!
