I am looking to purchase around 1500-2,000 .COMs and am having difficulty choosing between GD and NB.

With GD, the .COMs will cost around $8.45 (renewals as well); however at NB, we can get at-cost pricing for .COM registrations/renewals at $8.03/domain. I realize most end users know/use GD, and the afternic/GD listing process would be even simpler and seamless by having the names at GD. However 2000 .COMs x 0.42 makes a difference - especially when looking to buy another 2000 names a few months from now.

For those of your with larger .COM portfolios (5k+ names) do you find having / not having your domains at GD makes a difference to inbound/passive sales? If the chances of making sales is a little higher at GD (easier premium network integration having names at GD etc.), then I am prepared to pay the extra $$ to have & keep our names there.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Does having your domains at GD increase exposure/your chances of making end user sales at Afternic/GD? Or does it make no difference at all?
No difference.
And overall - just waste of 20% and time (up to 1 month).

8.29 is as low as we offer per .com
What about using a promo code. Would it go down further?

Or, is that you never have a promo code for .com tld?

What I am curious to know is:

I don't think it makes any difference wrt Afternic

How's that? 1&1 of course!
I use 1and1 since 2009...
As of today - over 4.4K my domains there...
But this registrar is definitely not suitable for bulk tasks... + they don't participate in AfternicDLS.

@Federer - honestly, for myself I would go with epik.
I know for sure Rob (@robepik) can offer you a pretty sweet deal for that quantity.

You also can't go wrong with namesilo but I don't think you can get better pricing.

If you really want to go with GoDaddy PM me. I can tell you how you can end up paying significantly less than $8 per domain name (reg. / renewal / transfer).
I would not go with GoDaddy for high value domain names because... hmmm... let's just say I'm not a fan. :)
For average value ... yeah ... suppose they're okay.

You can send NameBright a wire and save a further 3% on registrations/renewals, which is near cost. Additionally they provide free privacy and the domain management is a breeze.
Free privacy only for the first year, next $2.95/year

P.S. NB has a much more convenient control panel than in the GD

Wow - at their prices? And awful for bulk handling.

NameSilo for me for the most part.

Yes... per some TLDs 1and1 prices are good.
For example, as of now - .ORG $4.17 Reg/Transfer.
etc.

Personally I'd go for Godaddy @Federer as it's better for managing Fast Transfer. Having said that perhaps Fast Transfer is no problem with NB. I had a lot of names with another registrar and found it hard to get them all on Fast Transfer.

Have you tried it recently? We have made several new changes to help with managing large portfolios. There is also a beta view that helps if you click the top right of the domain control center you can access it. It allows you to easily manage larger portfolios and also to list your domain on Afternic right from inside GoDaddy.

It still baffles me how after all this time there are still people who advises GoDaddy to manage any portfolio of more than 100 domains :xf.sick: it is simply ludicrous.

exposing your domains at GoDaddy: you can do that by listing domains in bulk on Afternic or/and in Sedo MLS. no need to have domains registered with GoDaddy itself. and do not set any prices on them. let buyers come to you. but you know that already.

save your self time (it is more valued than money!) and trouble by using a more proper Registrar like NameSilo or Name.com

Are you sure domains will be exposed on Godaddy.com even without a price? Can you give an example? Feel free to PM if you prefer.

Another possibility is NamePal. They have a very innovative system that gives you credit for transactions made by the buyer if they keep the domain at NP. And also give you commission automatically for any domains that you let go and are bid on at auction. They are enabled for FastTransfer but to be honest it’s still not 100% clear to me how the approval works.

After further research, NamePal do not support Fast Transfer in the standard way. I would not use NamePal for domains intended to be sold through Afternic FT. That aside, my personal experience with NamePal has been very good.

I am going to play around with the Godaddy API. If that meets my requirements I will consider to send more business to Godaddy.

thru Afternic for sure.
when a client tries to register a domain that you own at GoDaddy's website it will place a reference saying that it is already taken but is available for sale, giving it a minimum price of $250 USD and asking you to make an offer. previously it would show it as being in auction and that was very confusing to buyers. Finally GoDaddy sorted this out but only recently.

even if GoDaddy gives you a way to coup with lots of domains thru an API, i think people must also take care of their own actions. by side along with GoDaddy you are giving money to a company that has a lot of leverage in the market, has an abusive stance in regards to marketing and to the availability of their WHOIS on port 43.

there are much better options where to place your domains and even if there weren't I would still opt for another small Registrar if the price difference was acceptable.
