I believe only short and easy-to-remember domain names are sustainable, regardless of where in the world you live and which cultural background you come from.

Now that the Chinese domain market has become a hot topic, I myself want to understand this trend too. Is there any real meaning behind each domain name sold in China? Here, I'd like to share with you what I've found as I read the Chinese news everyday.

GZX.com
GZX can stand for 更自信 (even more self-confident) which can be used in many fields such as education, self-help, and even consumer products to raise your self image.

XLY.com
XLY can stand for 夏令营 (summer camp) or 新领域 (new field) which can be used in recreation and high-tech products.

SoundAi demonstrates good domain strategy at low cost

The other day I read the news about a Chinese startup called SoundAi. As usual, I did a little bit of study and found the company interesting. It shows that you can go global on day one with a good domain strategy – and at low cost.

@Kassey Lee any Chinese meaning in this 4L triple premium? Using your A-Z chart it showed me something along the lines of Europe, Win, Win, Car?

Each letter can represent dozens or more of words, and all four of them must combine to form a meaningful phrase in Chinese, so it's not that simple.

So essentially it could have multiple meanings? Makes sense. I did some further research and it looks like there are quite a lot of possibilities for the ending 3 Letters YYC, but not too many for the first letter because it is a vowel, but since the vowel is at the beginning and isnt an I,V, A or U there is a chance it could work as an acronym. Let me know if I'm missing something, trying to learn as much as I can.

3Ls are quite straight forward, and you can use the Chinese IME to find meaningful phrases. Take YYC as an example. I have 游泳池 (swimming pool), 越野车 (off-road vehicle). 一英寸 (one inch), and many more. 4Ls are more challenging and O is tricky. However, I've found one: 欧元预测 (Euro currency forecast), but it does not feel like a brand.

I have not looked into it. I have not come across any use .co in corporate China. For example, in my study of 2016 Top 300 New Internet Companies, no .co was spotted. Details below:

Extension Count Share
.com 228 76%
.cn 47 16%
.cc 5 1%
.net 4 1%
Others 16 6%
Total 300 100%

Others include: me(3), tv(2), nr(1), kr(1), and unknown(7).

Therefore, I don't pay attention to this extension.

It was before approved, may be after approved in China in the future, a Chinese buyers will grow investment in .Co

As I understand, country extension domains have been bought and sold in China for years with no problem, but turning a domain into a website within China must obtain an ICP license, which can vary from region to region.

For example, well-known food delivery startup Ele.me was founded in 2008 (acquired by Alibaba this year) and used .me to obtain ICP license in Shanghai with no problem. Bike-sharing startup OFO was founded in Beijing in 2014 and use the Somalia extension OFO.so until it upgraded to OFO.com in 2016.

My GUESS is that the MIIT approval makes .co acceptable across all regions within China.

On June 1, Namebio report sale of Listy.com for $13,888 on Godaddy. This word is not found in traditional dictionaries such as Merriam-Webster but Yourdictionary.com describes "listy" as an adjective meaning "resembling a list".

Interestingly, on the same day, Listy.cn was registered on registrar Aliyun. This suggests Chinese domain investors are watching the western markets and have no problem with English domains.

Listy is a good price at $14k, very reasonable for buyer. My ask would be 5 times that min.

I have 88287 (/com) in godaddy auctions with a reserve between $5000-10k. Is this name pretty enough to get in that range? If not, that's ok.

Except a few numeric .com such as 1688.com owned by Alibaba with good meanings, I don't understand how long numbers can be remembered by consumers and therefore favored by businesses in China.

Kassey know you stated that did not think Crypto was still used ?
Just posted: Crypto Visa card company Monaco just spent millions to buy Crypto.com Experts told The Verge that Crypto.com could have attracted as much as $10 million, however Monaco CEO Kris Marszalek declined to go into the specifics Nothing like owning the cognitive generic domain like owning the main marketing routes without a lifetime of paying ferrymen Crypto - Cyber are global generics Ultimately the mix of Latin and Pinyin become part of our linguistics CyberSuo.com.com (Cyber Lock) CyberAnquan.com (Cyber Security) CryptoHuob.comi (Crypto Currency) https://techcrunch.com/2018/07/05/crypto-com-mco/

Respectfully do you offer your personal registration for sale ? I would be interested to seem them in order to have a more rounded opinion of my own possible errors it seems a reasonable request as so many people as your opinion on the subject ........

When it comes to crypto, I'm really ignorant, so I don't have any opinion to offer.

Regarding domains consisting of both English word and Pinyin word, yes, I have seen such use by Chinese startups, but have not seen it being popular among major companies in China.

"When it comes to crypto" Difficult to believe that Kassey,

Ref Pinyin /Latin generics major China centric companies use English if generic or Pinyin brands if China centric ? Not that Tencent JD or Alibaba need to care.

WeChat generation two word generics keep national pride and are apirational (linguistics) Baidu WeChat Google & Tech terms change global linguistics. Cixin Liu "TheDark Forest" got that right

As for "Respectfully do you offer your personal registration for sale ? I would be interested to seem them in order to have a more rounded opinion of my own possible errors it seems a reasonable request as so many people ask your opinion on the subject ........" you dodged the question Why ?

@China auto, you have overvalued me, my friend. I'm really not into crypto and I own no crypto-related domains.

"Respectfully do you offer your personal registration for sale ?" Do you mean my own domains? I'm more a collector and don't actively sell. It's more a hobby.

Thanks for the reply. I can understand that one has to believe in a chosen market

"Respectfully do you offer your personal registration for sale ?" Do you mean my own domains? I'm more a collector and don't actively sell. It's more a hobby.

Yes your own registrations, my interest was not in buying that would be to presumptuous. It would have been interesting to have noted range of the collection but no matter, I understand your privacy data can be turned card ......... on a forum

The world's biggest AI startup is from China but its domain is not .cn

My college days at The Chinese University of Hong Kong were about fun, friends, and sometime aimless activities. Yet, to some, it's a place to germinate great ideas. Take Xiaoou TANG and Li XU, a CUHK professor and a PhD student respectively who in 2014 had an "aha!" moment and founded the AI startup SenseTime,.

According to Chinese news, starting from May 29, individuals in China can now register .cn and .中国 (IDN). Three years ago, the government announced these two extensions could only be registered by businesses. This may attract more interest from small investors who do not own a company.

China-based blockchain consulting company Crypto Future just raised $1.8 million in funding. But it has a problem. Is Crypto Future based in Beijing? I couldn't find it using Google and Baidu. There is a Vienna-based Crypto Future on CryptoFuture.com which also offers Blockchain technology services. Crypto Future consulting will face a serious problem as the Austrian Crypto Future has already taken the right spot on the internet.

China-based electric car startup Byton was founded only in 2017 but has already received $500 million investment. Byton's corporate domain is brand-matching Byton.cn but it has also secured Byton.com which was registered in 1997.
