I hate titles like these when I'm reading the forum.

We already have PREFIXES to attract attention to a topic.

Why must we allow stuff like this in titles??

While the quantity of normal titles far outweighs the quantity of titles with emoji, I think the situation does not require attention.
Eventually something disturbs all of us and we hate something...

Yes, emoji - titles are rare but they are also normal titles, at least in the context they were created.
If someone don't like them, then he just don't (want to?) understand the context.

Every topic gets polluted by his advertisements and when I or my friends, speak up we get deleted.
Those types of posts are only deleted if they take the thread off topic or violate this rule:

Rule 1.5. Do not post anything suggestive or critical of NamePros (e.g., policy, staff, or moderation activity: infractions, content approval, edited/deleted posts, etc.) except in the designated areas for customer support (private) and feedback (public).

Discussing how someone is violating the rules in a discussion thread is never on topic and it does not interest anyone in a discussion thread that is about another topic. Readers come to those threads to read about the topic itself, not disagreements or rule violations. Everything else needs to be deleted.

Please notice that your posts in this thread have not been removed, because this section is the proper place to discuss them. However, it is off topic in this thread and should be in its own thread, but we will move this secondary topic to its own thread if need be.

I got so fed up the other day I deleted my namepros profile.
We are sincerely sorry to hear that. If you feel a moderator is not doing their job properly, please report it to management. We do not want to lose valuable members like yourself.

"No duplicate thread, it is a different thread which leads to the same domain.
As a GOLD MEMBER I have the PAYED right to create different threads (that's what I did) in the "EXTERNAL DOMAIN AND WEBSITES SALES" - section - even if they are leading to the same domain."
There were at least two rule violations with your threads that Brad reported:
  1. You did not put the domain name in the title. You cannot put a random name in the title to satisfy that rule. Learn more: Rule 6.1.8.
  2. Your threads were all for the same domain name. Learn more: Rule 6.1.12
An upgraded account gives you the right to create more sales threads within the confines of the rules; it does not give you the right to disregard any of our rules.

Please note that this is not a debate and you do not need to respond to this message. You do, however, need to respect those rules and not violate them again.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

As I knowww that it's not always easyyy to lead a "global" forum which is a platform for different types of domainers, I can understand your decisions and the fact that sometimes you have to update your rules..

At the end it's absolutelyyy no problem for me if there are rules which don't make sense for me.
It seems that there was indeed a rule violation from my side - ok.

But you can be sure that I wasn't aware of it - I always have the best intentions and I still don't get the point why nP has a problem with titles which are including much or even onlyyy emojis - because, beside their uniqueness they are especiallyyy good for people who can't read.

Therefore I will consider to contact the nP - management, also regarding the behaviour of certain members.

Three examples, same person.

All of them have the same emoji spammed 20+ times in the title.
All (3) threads are also advertising the same domain.

https://www.namepros.com/threads/1031469/
https://www.namepros.com/threads/966632/
https://www.namepros.com/threads/929018/

I know NamePros allows it but the amount of bumps people are allowed to do, especially in conjunction with these type of thread titles, is non-sense.

This type of stuff is adding zero value to the forum.

Brad
In the first link brad posted, that thread was open almost a year before a member notified @Support Team. Thanks Brad for bringing it to their attention. Why did it take you a year to spot this?not u brad haha
we have lost a lot of valuable members lately due to the idiocy of a few. Get rid of emoji’s in titles. We will be keeping an eye on it O_o
Be interesting wether this post gets deleted.

There are some members that are against the use of emojis in thread titles, but NamePros does not currently have a rule that disallows them. The purpose of this thread is to discuss whether we need a rule, and if so, what that rule should look like (e.g., only allow X emojis in each title).

Why did it take you a year to spot this?not u brad haha
If you mean NamePros, then please understand that the majority of the actions we take are a direct result of reports by you and your peers. With a community this large and thousands of new posts/threads created each day, we rely heavily on member reports to catch rule violations. We also spot check many threads ourselves but we are vastly outnumbered, and therefore we can't catch most things without members reporting them. Fortunately, that means that if members don't agree with a rule themselves, then they are unlikely to report those rule violations, which means only the rules that are important to the community are the ones that end up being enforced the most.

Personally I think there is a time and place for everything except when the forum gets flooded with the same messages or emoticons over and over again basically by the same members.

We are trying to run a business and as I mentioned to someone else.

Other than the TLD section his posts could have been considered off topic everywhere because he changed the topic to .top in almost every post.

Back on topic though.... the emoticons in titles do take away from the DEFAULT graphics

Picture0008.png

The status markers namepros provides are more than enough and I don't even mind a couple of emoticons but some people put quite a number of them in the title.

Maybe the answer is to limit titles to two emoticons

I'd normally be in favor of zero emoji in titles, but limiting it is going to cause issues with domain names that contain emoji.

Agreed but it could be set in as a rule instead of enforced in the titles so therefore the members could still post emoji domains.

I agree. There is certainly a line that can be drawn. Advertising a domain that contains an emoji vs spamming an emoji 20+ times are worlds apart.

Update: We've added a new rule.
  • Rule 1.23 Do not use emojis (e.g., emoticons such as ☺️) or decorative text (e.g., /!\ or ><(((('>) in titles except where unavoidable (e.g., they're necessary to include in internationalized domain name/s and currency symbols in price/s). This rule does not apply to posts or messages. Example: "Let's discuss the smiley face IDN: ☺️.com (punycode: xn--74h.com)" is an allowed title. An exception may be made if it's a single character or two, at the end of the title, used infrequently, and relevant to the title (e.g., the golfer emoji at the end of a title about golfing 🏌).

Note: We are only enforcing this rule moving forward on new content; we aren't applying the rule to existing titles. If you see any newly created threads violating this rule, please report them to us. Thanks!

Update on 9/12/2018: The rule has been updated to reflect other possibilities and allow a little leniency where moderators feel it is being used harmlessly (not too distracting) and infrequently. For future updates (and to read the latest version of the rule), please see the rules page.

I'm in favor of adding some more examples of decorative text:
  • uʍop-ǝp!sdn
  • ⓒⓘⓡⓒⓛⓔⓓ
  • ¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º° Accents °º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸
  • !!!!!!!!! Excessive exclamation marks !!!!!!!!!
  • U̲n̲d̲e̲r̲l̲i̲n̲e̲d̲
  • 𝕱𝖗𝖆𝖐𝖙𝖚𝖗
  • 𝒞𝓊𝓇𝓈𝒾𝓋𝑒
  • 𝘐𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘤
  • 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐝
  • 𝙼𝚘𝚗𝚘𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚌𝚎
  • Z̸͔̳̥͔̯a͙̥͡l͏g҉͕͇̻̝̪̠̰o̥̝̹̬̣̣
Note that the formatting above is different from normal formatting. Computers encode letters, numbers, and symbols as numbers, and these numbers are referred to as "characters". Normally, formatting is stored separate from these numbers; the text itself isn't italic, bold, or colored. It's sort of like a car: you can paint a car any color you want, but it's still the same car.

These kinds of text listed above don't have normal formatting. Instead, they're using obscure character codes to encode their formatting. Many of these characters only exist for compatibility purposes and aren't meant to be used unless absolutely necessary. This creates numerous problems. Search engines are a pretty good example. Let's say you want to search for the letter "A": your computer is going to search for the corresponding number in its memory, which is 65. Although the letter "𝒜" might look the same to you, your computer has no idea that it's the same letter as "A"--it has a completely different number. Some programs and services have giant lists of equivalent characters; for example, if you google "𝒜", it will take it to mean "A". However, none of these lists are perfect, and there are often ambiguities. It's significantly more reliable to just type "A".

Additionally, when formatting varies in titles--no matter how the formatting is encoded--it detracts from the usability of the site. It's harder to scan through a list of threads and pick out the relevant ones. Instead of drawing attention to threads, the formatting is probably more likely to frustrate people and cause them to skip over the inconsistencies.

I soooooooooooo much agree with this, the titles are what allows us to scan subjects of interest very fast. They should be clear and without any deceit. I remember on occasion seeing a title thinking it was one thing and the fonts were manipulated to make me think it was something other than what it truly was.

Clarity is very important when we are dealing with a marketplace (y)

It's been suggested by a few members over the years, but we've started to notice the potential for it to cause issues recently.

Thanks for helping us improve. :)

Your title has been restored.

Another member reported your title and the moderator that handled it may not have noticed that you set the title before the rule came into effect.

Eventually, we won't be able to keep track of which titles took place before the rule, so we'll just change any that are reported, but for now, we'll try to allow the titles that were set before the new rule was added.

We hope that heps.
