As we get closer to GDPR being official more and more reactions and questions come in. I noticed today that Theo at DomainGang.com is going to block Europe from accessing his blog. Someone told me I should do that two weeks ago. I had a couple readers express their desire to ban Europeans from making offers on or buying their domain names. One reader came from a place of worry and the other a place … [Read more...]

You clearly haven't visited England.

mate, you do know we ruled India for 347 years, until 1947 right? There are literally millions and millions of Indians that speak English almost as a first language - that's the reason many English companies out source call centers to India. I wouldn't be surprised if more than 230 million speak it fluently. Yes it may not be there mother tongue, but it still counts towards the 2 billion+.

I have been to both. I don't speak Spanish, but my French is good. I don't need to go there to trade, I work from the UK and everyone who wants to deal speaks English, fact! Whether they are from Spain, France or Timbuktu, if they're serious about doing business they will negotiate in English. English is the international business language. This isn't to say I wouldn't try to communicate in another language if needed.

There are so many more English speakers than Spanish overall. It's not even a contest when you include all categories, such as native + 2nd + 3rd language. It would be very close when just including native though, I'm not sure which would win on that alone.
You have ruled Ireland as well and still, if you go now in some parts of western Ireland and try to speak English in their home, they will kick you out and that's a fact. As a new confirmation, I've asked another Indian working in a multinational in New Delhi: nobody is speaking English at home, markets or whatever...some Indians, mostly under 40 years will speak at work, where they have multiple languages and they use English to understand each other, but nobody can be named native speaker.
All this isue was about brexit and the official language in EU after that...let me know a good reason why EU should use English as official, when after Brexit there will be around 3-4 millions native speakers out of 400-500 millions, so less than 1% . Probably they will use German, French and Spanish.

1) India is not a small country every parts is different in India. Only Delhi is nothing for sample because every different city using different languages.
(India consists of people who belong to different races, castes, religions, languages and cultures.
India is geographically diversified as it contains deserts, plateaus, rain forests, mountains, hot springs etc in this aspect India is considered as a sub continent.)
2) In Mumbai even street fruit shop owners can speak in English fluently.
3) You cannot compare even South India with North India. Different language different culture almost opposite.
3) English is 2nd language in India.
5) India has two official language Hindi and English. English = all over India, Hindi = North India only

I dont know what Boker trying to prove but he should learn and correct his wrong information.

So, after reading everything, is this what did you understand? We are talking about native speakers, not official language, not second language. I suppose that you are Indian...let me know how many fruit shop owners do you know which are talking in English at home or with the family? Do you know any Indian who speaks English with family and in private all the time? If you are trying to argue that Indians are native english speakers, than you should start studying a little bit more.

Visit South India, you will find almost everywhere English speaking people.
There are many English speakers in India. Still I am not considering Indians are native English speakers.

At home it is local language. Probably you never heard the name of the language.
The total number of mother tongues spoken in India is 1652

Spanish language with over 480 millions native speakers( over 100 millions more than English native speakers), official language in over 20 countries and present in at least 3 continents. French language, the official language in 29 countries and reaches 4 continents..and so on

This is the main issue for domainers...low entry point, you don't need to know anything, you don't need to study, you can say whatever you want, you don't need a background...exactly like the wannabe marketing and social media specialists. Before you say something you should start studying something regarding the subject.

Chinese speaking people are lot more than your example estimated figure. Still it is a regional language. Correct your fact and learn from this example.

Exactly what I was saying...you don't have a clue what's the difference between native and second language, between regional and international. Let me know in how many countries and continents do you can speak Chinese...this is like school, trying to explain something to a kid who missed all the other classes.

All over the world you will find Chinese people and can speak Chinese. Also China alone is almost 3times larger than India or a huge country in other word. So what? It became international language?

People prefer online market than offline store. It is fact.
Made up fact. I can present you with a lot of folks (know to me, including some family members) who, in fact, prefer offline to online!

There are other differences e.g. English speaking people are most advanced people on earth. They allow and accept almost anything, every field. Another benefit or added advantage they are one step ahead from rest of the world. Then I don't think I am missing anything. Instead I can collect most advanced knowledge in any subject when requires.
lol. you're imaginary superiority complex due to your language is moving from being funny (for me) to ridiculous. Your first statement is so full of shit! Not going to get into a culture war here but that's one of the most ridiculous sentences I've read

Do you really think those people block Wikipedia are most advanced people? If you think like this I can say it is more than funny and ridiculous.

Most probably you are from a non developed country and you wonder what is online! And what is called progress. Could I know as per your imagination what is called advance in any field?
Can you give any example in which field English speaking world is backward?
If you cannot give, you are a troll. Period.

Once again a baseless statement. Well.. I guess I must be living in some other part of Mumbai...Forget about speaking in English fluently... most fruit shop owners I have visited cannot even converse in basic English

Dude, first, your own English (specifically in this comment) is not fully comprehensible. I don't get your first sentence.

That's a non sequitur. English speaking countries are not backward does not mean other countries are backward. AND, more importantly, it isn't necessarily because of the language itself! Unfortunately, the English language spread due to the imperialist moves of the British Empire. That, by itself, does not mean English was the cause of the advancement of the countries where English is popular. IIRC, someone earlier argued that India has one of the largest English speaking (at least passable English). By your argument, India should, then, be one of the most advanced countries in the world. Why not "backward", it isn't advanced by any stretch. Neither economically, nor scientifically or otherwise (Corruption and religious fervor don't count :P ). So your point (quoting again below) is more ridiculous than it is anything else!

That's a non-sequitor. Because English speaking world is not backwards does not mean other countries are backwards. AND, more importantly, it isn't necessarily because of the language itself! Unfortunately, the English language spread due to the imperialist moves of the British Empire. Thanks for clarification.
