NP has become cl-utterly cluttered

I have missed 2 good auctions here on NP, because they were buried beyond the 8th page.

The last several months, NP has become so cluttered that :

1) You have to wade through A LOT of "bumped-to-death" threads
2) You miss posts and auctions you might be interested in

Bumping per se is not the problem, but members should have an option to flag a thread as "Uninteresting", and the thread would not show up again for this member.

My monitor shows 25 threads per page, and every time I check, around 20 are threads I am seeing for the 50th time (although I have decided right from the beginning that they don't appeal to me).

Please vote if you would like to be able to block and never see again the threads that you don't have an interest in, so that you don't miss the good threads.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to share your suggestion.

This topic currently exists at the following page:

No need to vote, because adding this feature is already on our to-do list. :)

This feature is quite high on our priority list. However, even higher priority items are delaying it at the moment. We will add it eventually, because we want to see this feature added as soon as possible.

Thanks, again!

that be cool. there is nothing more annoying than having to view either on main screen right side or anywhere else.. threads you don't have the faintest care in the world for.. repeatedly... for days.. weeks sometimes.. etc. no one should have to endure that imo... it is nothing but a waste of your eyes and time!

I started talking about this also when I joined np in 2015. I believe then you said its not relaly on your list.

so thanks for moving it up. hope to see it soon!

just out of sheer curiosity, how would your rate complexity to implement and or time?

obviously, not all features are equally complez. this seems relatively easy. to me.

thanks!

The thread you linked to is from 2 1/2 years ago. So is this really something coming? What was added in the prior 2 1/2 years before this one, the higher priority items? It seems whenever there are threads like this, the usual reply is it's coming, we have other things coming, but I never know what those actually are. It seems like a canned response to move on from the subject.

From a technological standpoint, it's up there: we have to keep a list of every thread you don't want to see, for each member, and then among all the results, remove those threads from everywhere. It will remove them from forum lists, thread lists, sorting, searching, sidebar widgets (e.g., Popular This Week), etc. That's the time consuming part. The technical difficulty is doing all of that quickly, because there are millions of posts on NamePros, and theoretically, your ignore list could be in the millions, as well. It can get very large, e.g., if 50k members have a list of 10k ignored threads, that's 500 million ignored threads we have to manage.

So is this really something coming?
That is our intention and desire. :)

Higher priority items include security protocols, new features to stop spam, infrastructure updates to support the load of our services more efficiently with less downtime, fraud investigations, building a new and free service to help domainers, etc. These things take a lot longer than we would like, but they are coming.

Took me less than a minute to find this:

"Ignore More - Allow users to ignore threads or forums"

https://xenforo.com/community/resources/th-ignore-more.4828/

Probably more options.
Yes, we are aware of that add-on and others. They're not sufficient for our service. Most add-on's are not built to scale or work with large boards; they're built for smaller boards. If an add-on is not designed with a larger board in mind, it will crash the service.

We completely understand the frustration of waiting. We are in the same boat, but there are only so many hours in a day, and running a forum of this size brings with it a lot of responsibilities and tasks that are often unseen by members.

We look forward to when we can share new features with you. That's fun for us, too!

Accept. :)

Our technical team would still test it and review all of the code before it went live, but more help? Yes, please!

Thanks for the explanation @Support Team
It makes sense.

I think you can limit the blocked threads per member to a fixed number and when that number is reached, the oldest thread, which by then may have been abandoned, will be overwritten.

Also, if you implement this feature only for the main screen, the most important functionality will be there already.
