So I've been watching a lot of whats been selling incrementally learning more and more about Chinese numerology and how the number 8 is the "luckiest".

8.com of course is taken but then I started drinking and ran an experiment to see how many times I have to enter 8 to get an available domain. The answer was surprising. All of them were taken except one so I bought it... the number 8 62 times. All the domains more 8s are taken as well. All other numbers were taken so I had to buy it. IDK what anyone would do with it but theres gotta be a reason longer ones are taken as well. Maybe it'll bring me good luck times 62 by having it in my portfolio!

88888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888.com

Any ideas on why the others would be taken?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
It lays in "human nature" to reach the top of certain things.
In context of domaining that's why primarily the highest possible number of certain digits / letters / words in certain TLDs are taken.
You can consider such ultimate domains as a virtual way to symbolize that.
Such domains are digital status symbols, if such Domains are offered for sale, the target audience are primarily UHNWI's.

My answer to your question:

I believe the other domains (with the lower number of "8"s) are taken because their owner/s assumingly also have the above explained "wish" to reach the top, in this case to reach the top of the "8"s.
As they were obviously not able to get the 63 "8"s in this TLD, they registered the next possible highest number of "8" -
like you did ;)

My opinion to your domain:

As 62 "8"s are not the highest possible number of "8"s, it is far (yes, far, although it's "just" one "8" too less) away from having the same potential like 63 "8"s can have.

Also, it is ending with the TLD .com - but domains which are trying to symbolize the top (of whatever) or trying to be "near the top (of whatever, in your case near the top of the "8")" should logicallyyy end with the TLD .top - it's self explanatory whyyy
If you want to enter this field of domaining, you have to understand this - no matter what people are trying to explain about .com

Regardless these points. of course I wish you all the best with it.

BTWWW I currently own THE HIGHEST "888... ...888" - DOMAIN OF ALL TIME:

888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888.top

THE HIGHEST "888... ...888" - DOMAIN OF ALL TIME

- 63 x 8 (1 character) = 63 characters
- 63 characters = highest possible number of characters a domain name can consist of left beside the TLD ("topleveldomain" = domain - extension / - ending)
- TLD .top (highest TLD)

The result of this ultimate combination is, that this domain is 100 % the highest "888... ...888" - domain of all time.

I'm sort of curious how many lines that will be on the Godaddy Closeouts listings.

These are a waste of money. Check what the names are used for and who owns them? They are just domainers waiting for the big score, most of them are just parked or for sale and will never sell. If you have 888.com or 8888.com, then they have value but nobody is going to type in 88888888888888888888888888888888888.com

Yeah I mainly bought it as a joke but hell maybe someone will buy it. Looks like 888888888888888888.com sold for $627 USD Jan 24 2016 on DropCatch. Also they are ALL taken, theres value in that somewhere even if its small. Only 62 people max can have one.

888888888888888888.com is a lot shorter than 88888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888.com

Don't waste your money and rather focus on names you can sell

I'm just trying to figure out how they would say this on the radio?
Or if I were passing on the hwy and seen this on a billboard. There's no way I would be able to process this while glancing and driving.

RADIO (example)
"Visit 63 times 8 - the highest "8" domain of all time!"

HIGHWAY BILLBOARD (example)
"Visit 888... …888.top - the highest "8" domain of all time!"

People are not stupid, they will understood it - at least those who want to understand.

It's not the longest 888... ...888.com domain.
His domain has 62 "8"s while 63 "8"s (or characters in general) are possible.

The difference between 62 / 63 seems to be a small difference but in this case it's a big one, it's the decisive one.

Sorry I'm not calling anyone stupid.
I'm just trying to be a realist not an artist.

Then ppl will go to 63times8.com:xf.confused:
Only a few, most will understand it.
And even if they would first go there to find out that there is nothing, then they will get howww it was / is meant.

Of course I can followww your "concern", in the way you described it, it would indeed be a realisic scenario - but there is a simple solution (as I mentioned above).

My "...not stupid" - comment was meant in context to myyy presented solution, let me picture it in this way:
The solution for (entering the higher / highest floor/s of) a scyscraper is a lift - people are not stupid, they can handle a lift.
In other words, the will understand this long domain - radio / highway billboard - solution.

Unfortunately no :)
Ok
I just see these type names as some sort of domain name artwork.

I've never seen such names used anywhere. I've only seen them here on NP.
What would be the purpose of it beside being kept in a portfolio collection.
I do not see any business using these type names to brand their company.

I've purchased artwork/paintings before but it served a purpose called decor. Made the room look good.

I just don't see the purpose of these type names. Of course this is just my opinion.

I guess you're right. There's no purpose in these and opposed to collecting art there's no or little value in it as well.

Guess it's just for fun. I like the humour of it though.

;) It's alreadyyy my domain (although it has "only" 62 characters).

But I am also the current owner of the 63 character / highest "version" of it:

tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooop.top

1 "t" / 61 "o"s / 1 "p" / TLD .top
The highest "tooo… ...ooop.top" domain of all time.

Regarding the digit "8":

The fact that the digit "8" is not the highest digit (which is the digit "9"), is the reason why the domain
999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999.top
has more value than the domain
888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888.top

There is no higher number possible in a domain name than
999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999

(63 times = highest possible number of "9")
