If a potential buyer already have an established business and are using .net (or .org, .io.. or whatever..), how would approach them, and what would your asking price be.

I guess price depends, but how do you decide a reasonable price, and what are your typical price range in this type of situations where there are a very obvious buyer?

Bonus question :-P
How often is do you succeed selling in these types of situations?

oh btw.. I'm not talking about ultra premium .com's.

The context here is hand reg's & cheap drop catches etc.

My opinion is that you need to present the idea why they should get that domain from you. Usually it is the "protect your brand" pitch. Depending how much they value their brand, they will opt to get it. Price depends on the worth of "the brand they need to protect". If it is a local business or a small company then my guess is actually a low $50-250, though if the company is worth more then probably up to $1000. One thing that needs to be considered too is the strength of the economy where the company is located. For instance, a third world country has low economy value and companies there operate with much less money, so they can't pay much.

If they are not contacting you it won't work unless you price it super cheap like $500
this is all about vision and budget

I had one such experience. I backordered .com at dropcatch as .net and .in were already had websites. Just took a chance. Finally I was able to sell it to the small company who was running its business on .net (company who was using .in was also contacted by me but it didn't respond) and I made a profit of around $150 well within 2 weeks of registering .com.

Don't approach them wait then wait then wait some more. Likely this person really wants it and it is worthless to everyone one else you burn it you lose it.

In my experience so far, they can own .net, .org, .biz. .info and redirect all to their main website which uses the same keyword; and still have no interest in buying your .com. They won't even offer 1 cents, or ask what the price is even if you contact them. But they will continue renewing .net, .org....

If they own .net and .org, and have a web site on one of those domains, and you tell them .com is available: they won't buy it.

It feels like any interesting messages I send or receive doesn't reach the recipient.

You need to use different computers, different connections, different email services for each domain to sell, not to get blocked. Too time consuming.

How does this work: Most people will just search a keyword, and they will be offered .com, and they will buy it. If they are offered .xyz while .com is taken and .net is available, they will take .xyz. So they have their domain, the rest doesn't matter. People don't think like domainers. For domainers .com is king but this is a long time manipulation created by buying .coms for millions, and offering .coms first at registrars. .com has no intrinsic superiority over .biz, .info, or .site. It just has marketing advantage. I mean since it was sold well, it sells well. I wish people could think differently just for one week.

And when people think like domainers, they become bargain hunters, and offer 1 percent of what it is worth.

They can own a domain in all extensions imaginable (and renew them forever), except yours, which is not a bad extension, and still they will have zero interest in buying yours. They would pay 100K if it was available when they were making the purchase, but right now, they won't offer $1.
