Hello Namepros!

Need your advice, opinions and thoughts. Is it still worth developing a business around product-shoppe.com if product-shop.com is already establish and considering we have 90-99% similar product and market.

Will that also lead to legal problems? As we are on the same country as well.

Thanks

I think you already know the answer to that question, if the owner of product-shop.com cares about it. Also what about productshop.com and productshoppe.com? Don't they get a say also? How about productstore.com and product-store.com Are there any trademarks involved?

My advise would be - try to get just a short beautiful name, not connected with the niche keywords. I made this mistake myself, with my first online business 13 years ago, named the e-shop [keywords].com. Realized my mistake in a few years, had to rebrand....

Thank you very much for your 2 cents it was worth more than that.

Well I did get an offer from the competitor it was too low though and I definitely have semi concrete plans for it when I reged it. Now ready to move forward with it, this thought suddenly held me back. Brandable is the way to go coudn't agree more with that. Except for this business though I could not think of anything relevant without the keyword in it or atleast my thoughts and thinking are locked because of having strong favorability with this domain. Except that right now this suddenly hit me hard its about to be launched except this thought is bugging me. Will it strengthen the other competitor brand or mine? And the potential of future legal problems.

Other related domains are parked so no biggie with that except this.

What products are you selling? Maybe we can stimulate you with a few suggestions. Because you seem to have a blockage with naming your business. product-shoppe.com is an awful name anyway. Because it doesn't convey anything about what you are selling, or about you. Is there any kind of budget left for a better domain name?

OK. I just took a look at product-shop.com. It's an awful website too. So you are in the Web Design business. There are a ton of Brandable domains being sold right here on NP. Some very cheap. Look in the Auctions, Fixed Price, Brandables, Bargain Bin. Keep it short and snappy 5-7 letters max. You'll be fine. If you need to get an opinion about a suitable domain, you can always PM me before purchase. You'll look much better than your competition.

Hi Stub! Well its not literally product-shop.com. Anyway have decided not to push through with it, feel totally bad though. Can clearly see some legal hurdles in the future with it, either me or the competitor will eventually go against each other and its not ethically correct anyway.

Also most of my domains are brandable since keywords are really harder to come by except for this.

Again thank you very much your opinions and thoughts. It definitely gave me a clearer view over my dilemna. You are correct that I already know the answer, its just that there is an emotional connection with the domain that makes me bias. So having other peoples opinions does sometimes or more like most of the time help or atleast someone can give me a good b*tchslap to wake me up.

Bottomline brandable domain is the way to go specially on building a trustworthy brand and the longer term consequences of it. Last thing any business wants are legal headaches, its clearly looking for trouble and I dont have the resource to deal with it.

Don't worry. Since both the words are generic terms and various domains of similar pattern are already in use or available, you are safe to play. Get the site up, do marketing and grow your business.

What's weird is product-shop.com was registered 40 days ago and it makes you feel threatened the he/they will sue you?

Sue you for services? product-shop.com provides Web Design and Graphics services. They can't sue you over it. Neither can they sue you for using 'product' or 'shop' in a domain.

Sorry I meant "keyword"-shop.com not literally product-shop.com and we will be selling the same products and some probability of the same suppliers.
