Hi all,
have you ever come across the situation that the person who wants to buy your domain name not exactly a good person/company? For example 'pirate' upload company?
Just for example... Someone like Megaupload wants to buy the domain name from us - something like bbc.com.
Is it just immoral or even illegal to sell them the domain name?
Are domain name owners/investors responsible for the way the buyer will use it?
Big dilemma, because the offer is massive, but we don't want to be associated with pirate stuff.
Thanks

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I will choose not to sell, because we are domainer not a pirate.

Its not illegal. Morals and ethics, however, are personal.

Nice one Furquah
You are right Dominique
It's really a big dilemma. We have the domain for over 22years, not selling it for 6 figures based on morals and ethics is lovely, but really hard.

If I am satisfied with the offer, I really don't care what the other party does with the domain.

Doesn’t make sense to not sell the name if the offer is too good unless they’re barred by law like Iran or NKorea or a terror group(for example).

They will go for second, third, fourth best name anyway if you don’t sell yours.

Download sites have a habit of using disposable domains, and they rotate quite often.
It is a bit strange that somebody would spend a lot of money on a premium domain, that could end up being seized.

Let me say it so, I would sell a knife to a cook but I wouldn't sell it to a murderer.

What's wrong with Megaupload?

It is a amazing how many people claim to find fault with selling a domain name for a profit. It sounds like a bunch of BS to me considering how hard it is to sell a domain name for real money, not just chump change.

My job as a businessman is to sell for max profit. It's government's job to catch the bad guy.

Even straightforward sales require a measure of trust in the other party you're dealing with. If you don't think they're decent, then maybe don't deal with them at all.

It seems hard, but it really isnt.

Just dont sell it.

You are either part of the problem or part of the solution...

you choose.
