The domains Rick Schwartz owned worth the $$$ because all potential alternative domains has been taken. If 90% of every domainer drop their domains, the endusers are likely choose to hand-reg one instead of purchase from Rick Schwartz.

i was thinking the same thing

He too has registered some crap lately.

He came in early and registered good one word dictionary words.
In today's environment he would be an ordinary Joe. From what I see on his latest hand reg's they are nothing special and I even saw a batch he dropped. I would never have registered them in the first place.

Come to our level Mr King.
Start again with a new batch and lets see how far you get!

i usually drop/or liquidate 5% of my portfolio per year

From the 35 handreg names that I registered last year I dropped 32.

I'm from those remaining 10% domainers.

I am doing better with gTLDs this year than ever before.

New times, new possibilities...

Ps. I'm dropping 5-10% of my names each year as an effort to improve my portfolio.

I drop names, the problem I have is i acquire at a higher rate than I drop..some good, some bad..some over paid, some under paid...some get offers, most don't..

It is a good thing that domainers are at least pruning their portfolio, and hopefully increasing the overall quality over time.
Learning how to drop domains is nearly as important as learning how to buy domains. Especially when you are new.

As a newbie I registered a lot of .BIZ domains. I quickly dropped most of those but in the early years I picked up hundreds of .Net domains. They were hard to sell so I slowly pared the .Net portfolio. I then discovered .TV in 2008 and found I could backorder some amazing keywords. Of course renewals were much more expensive. As the .TV portfolio grew and sales were slim I realized .TV while it sounds cool and makes sense for a videocentric site, .TV was not such a great investment. Youtube is free and many video channels opt to have no domain at all or use some weird made up brand rather than buy a keyword domain. Facebook has also been a factor as many content producers / end users utilize social media platforms rather than pay for an internet presence. Google's search engine algorithm changes in 2012 also reduced the placement value of EMDomains. So after ten years plus and having dropped about 80% of the domains I have ever registered with about a third of the remaining ones priced $XXX, why would I waste money on a new extension? Even with recent end user inquiries you still see them fighting to pay more than $xxx for really solid .COM domains.

So this is over multiple years. We don’t even know what number to divide by.

Given this new data there are only 2 conclusions I have come to:

85% of domainers should drop 85% of what they have and start over.

Hanging out at Namepros may not be the best investment of time cuz those that make the LEAST, talk the most. Go ahead, listen to the 82%+++ and follow THEIR lead! All they have is insults cuz their wallets are mostly empty.

I also updated the post because Eric let me know the poll had many more votes since the article in March on TheDomains.

I have dropped 1000s of names over past few years and still doing it. Names I rarely if ever got sale inquiries on and had basically no traffic or revenue. Odd thing is the vast majority were picked up on the drop (no matter how bad they were) with many going to huge-domains. Not sure how HugeDomains sells them in view of the real bad stats. One name was a 2 word com owned for many years with never even 1 inquiry, zero income or traffic, no other ext taken, and dubious value search results of term in google but it somehow was sold on the drop for $2,500 to Domain King Rick. When I had it would have gladly sold it for $50 to anyone.

sorry, not sure if I can say because when i noticed the drop sale last year I emailed Rick asking how much he paid which price he gave me but not sure if i'm authorized to reveal it as he may not want price revealed.
