Google now opened for .app domain extension for evreyonel to purchase.
Do you guys think it's only for developers or it could be in demand just like other top extensions?

Please share your views on .app future in domain flipping.

I am absolutely positive about that, but I'm no expert. But it's Google, it's .app.. You know you want one..

Well, you don't know that yet though. Unless you paid big bucks ;)

Well said. I’ve pre-registered a few names I want with multiple registrars just in case the names aren’t picked up before open season.
Chances of them not being reg’d over the next few days are slim though.

It"ll be in top 50 new gTLDs.

Unlike other new gtlds I think this one has a strong chance to shine. I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes the gtld with the highest percentage of developed sites. Google could easily decide since they require an SSL for each developed site to link it to the play store in some fashion to allow developers to create better branding for their apps.

I think its just for applications only, so to point to android marketplace app listing for example. You also need to have an https certificate to be able to use the domain

I personally wont be buying any, probably alot of domainers will be making alot of money selling the names onto developers but its not for me.

I've pre-registered a couple with 1&1 and it worked fine for me. Also pre-registered the same domains with a couple of other registrars though to increase my chance of getting them.

I think some people may get confused though as the domains are showing up in my 1&1 control panel like I already have them but that they are not available until the 8th of May. I understand that is because it is just a pre-registration but someone without this knowledge may get a shock when on the 8th of May the domains disappear and they get a refund.

I think there will be mad dash to get them initially The majority of the top keywords as always will go/have gone to the big guys.

There will be an initial rush of sales for a month or two and just before renewal time there will be a couple of huge sales that are out of proportion to the perceived values.

But then I am just an old cynic.

I'm going to pass on this one because unless I'm selling an app it does not make any sense to own one.

I still cannot understand why anyone would buy one based on speculation. Unless you get an absolute premium name you have a million times better odds at selling a .com.

So I am a company called Grain Futures and I make an app telling people the price of grain and the projected price of grain.

Other than the download link.... at GrainFutures.app the main company will still be located at GrainFutures.com

Now if I were to be that company and already own GrainFutures.com I would make the download link a subdomain similar to app.GrainFutures.com or just place it in a folder at GrainFutures.com/app.

Again, I'm not criticizing anyone buying .app extensions but I'm probably gonna pass on this.

What's to watch is how many google reserves as premium like the other registries.

Don't use 1and1, they are awful.

The answer is lots and they're expensive. The challenge seems to be to find the diamonds in the rough that are reasonable to buy now that don't have a crazzzzy renewal price.

What use could it be? Beside being a landing page of an app. And people download apps from App Store, rarely from their page.

Google haven't prescribed a use for the names. They're domain names without restriction other than requiring HTTPS.

I think we are moving towards app culture where app itself is under threat. I mean developers are working on something which you don't need to download on phone as an app but app on web.

This could be a game changer in how we use app today.

""Will .APP Raise Demand?

In 2015, Google won the rights to the .APP domain extension and after three years, the Internet giant is opening the extension for general availability. As of May 7th 2018, .APP domains will be available to the public.

Will the .APP extension prove to be popular? More importantly for investors, will it represent an opportunity to acquire and subsequently sell some of the best names?""

.APP is just going to be another gTLDs as far as its popularity is concerned. One has to keep in mind that it is not com or net or org for mass registrations. .App will be used only by programmers, apps producers. Hence the usage is limited. since .App is owned by Google, does not mean that there will be an increase in .App subscribers.

Point to be noted.
