When do Expired GD Domains go to Closeout? Wtf?

It's been a few weeks since I've been frequenting the GD market but I'm noticing something has seriously changed that hasn't been this way before...

For years, auctions that ended without bids would go to closeouts immediately following, usually within 5 minutes. Is it not this way anymore?

The last few days all domains have been going to closeouts hours after ending, and at random times, sometimes a couple hours, sometimes 3 or 4 hours. Is this something new GD has implemented or Bot activity responsible for this?

I tested this out by adding a bunch of crappy domains to my watch list that no one would want, domains that made no sense, but even those didn't go to closeouts immediately after the auction end, they went to closeouts hours after. This lead me to believe that they weren't being sniped manually. Unless every single domain that ends at auction is being stored and scanned through since I'm finding the majority of domains I like are not even reaching closeout, never this way before.

Any info?

Also, while I'm here, I notice some expired domain auctions are getting a $10 bid instead of $12 and it's reading "AuctionMerge" in the bidder info, how do I get this discounted bid? Bidding at multiple domains at once?

Thanks

Yeah it takes hours now. Been that way for a few months. No idea why. I think the 10 dollar bids are backorders.

has it ever taken more than 2 days?

Yeah Jasonn's right. I've noticed it for like 6 months or so now. It bugs me bc I love to scoop up the occasional closeout for $5 instead of $8 like a cheapskate and it makes me wait hours for it to show back up. It doesn't even show up by doing a manual search in a private browser either.

Could it be related to domains from GD's partner registrars? AFAIK expired domains include domains from partner registrars as well. May be there is a delay when these domains move from expired to closeouts inventory. Just a guess.

That could be it, but I'm really not sure. I have sometimes thought the name was scooped up by someone else and deleted it from my saved list only to see it popped up again for sale a few hours later when searching haha.

If there is a domain you really want at GD expired auctions, it is best to bid that $12 within the last minute and paying the extra dollars, than it is to risk losing it entirely. In my experience.

LOL funny you say this because I was debating this with myself this morning for a name expiring today. I highly doubt anyone will bid on it, but I'm planning on bidding $12 in the last few mins just in case. I'll happily pay the extra few bucks even though I'm like 95% sure I could get it for $5 in closeouts.

You really can't snipe a domain at GD Expired anymore. Even if you bid at the last minute, the end time gets extended by 5 minutes and I am guessing there are bots out there looking at a combination of bids and end times, and in most cases the domain ends up with more than one bid.

You're right it's a lot harder because of the timer reset. I love ebay auctions because you can snipe things easily there, but these GD auctions are completely different because of this aspect.

Thats because GD locks out a closeout domain for 2 hours when someone adds it to cart, regardless of a purchase has been made or not. If user cancels the transaction, domain is unlocked again after 2 hours.
