Hi friend,

I recently listed a name in auction. One buyer won and he requested to transfer away the name.

But eventually due to transfer code problem, the name never really transferred successfully. I offer buyer two options, 1), I keep working with registrar to figure out the transfer issue; 2), refund

Buyer chose 2) refund.

Originally buyer sent me $3 as the deal price, and I received $3. However, buyer said he actually send $6 because the extra $3 is paypal service fee.

My question is: if I do the refund, do I refund $3, or $6? Do I have to refund both the $3 and the paypal service fee?

thank you

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
click on his payment and check if he sent you $3 or $6
it'll tell you

then just refund the whole amount he sent.. whether 3 or 6.

I could be wrong but the service fee was given to them by PP thanks to their new policies so when you refund the $3 PP will automatically refund what they charged them for the transaction.

No worry, simply click issue refund on your PayPal transaction, buyer will get all the money back.

Now if she claim again for $3, ask her to send screen shoot which clearly show $6 & your PayPal ID.
That’s exactly what I did. ...

I think you just did right, my experience base on my sale on eBay when buyer wants me to cancel and refund the payments and when I asked eBay CS then she (eBay CS) said just click cancel the transaction and all payments will return to the buyer's account (PayPal ) and she also said PayPal will return all fess that has been deduct from the transaction.

"There's no fee to use PayPal to purchase goods or services. However, if you receive money for goods or services (such as from selling an item on eBay), the fee for each transaction is 2.9% plus $0.30 USD of the amount you receive.

When you issue a full refund via the transaction page, PayPal refunds you the 2.9 percent fee, but not the 30-cent fee. Taking the $30 sample order from the previous section, if you issue a full refund PayPal will return 87 cents of the original $1.17 fee."

all from paypal's page.

Thank you for your information

So in this case, how much total do I have to pay buyer? 3$ plus how much?

You are done. You did everything you were supposed to.
I sell a lot of stuff on ebay and when you refund money via paypal ALL money goes back to buyer. If they sent you the money as family or friend and had to pay fee, I think that would be their lesson to learn. If you are buying something you should always choose paying for merchandise or services.
Believe me when you auction off a domain and it goes for $3 and they take their fees out you only get $2 and some change, but that is the cost of doing business. IMO.

Wow! How does this work? . How would I be expected to refund someone $9 when they sent me $3? In my world $1=$1 so $3=$3. Not $3=$9?
That's how much it would cost to make sure the buyer got back his $6 right?

I'll forward you 6.00 u.s.d
It is going to be $9. Now. If they charge him a $3 fee every time. So now the total back to buyer is going to be $12, if someone sends him $9 so he can get his $6 and the $3 that was already sent?
You know what's even crazier buyer can have 4,000 people send him $3 each and he will get $0.
Who is the real thief here? Paypal
