This thread is to share domains you've Won at Auction or Bought at Closeout

Closeout = After auction but before completely dropping from registrar and before going into redemption.

I *HIGHLY* suggest to post only after the domain is transferred *INTO* your account!

Go here if it's a domain you bought that was available at anytime for "hand registration": Your Reg of the Day
Go here if it's a domain you snapped / "drop-catched" after "Pending Delete": Your Snap of the Day

Feel free to disguise the domain like Slash // dot // com or any o|t|h|e|r w a y you want.
IMPORTANT: *If* someone does disguise their name, please respect them by quoting them directly, or copy/paste them directly.

Things to optionally include (or just simply post the domain name):

  1. What you paid for the domain(s), or the price range, or no price info at all.
  2. Any information, reasons or hard data (traffic, CPC, etc) that lead you to buy the domain(s).
  3. Where (or who) you acquired the domain from.
  4. How many other bidders there were.
  5. Whether the domain was "expired" or not.
  6. Whether the domain was at "closeout" or not.
  7. The history of the domain.
  8. What you see the domain being used for.
  9. Who a potential buyer could be.
  10. Anything else you want to share .. these are just possible ideas not "rules" ;)

I Really like this thread. Especially what you're doing @Ategy.com with the domains you pick by explaining What made you pick them and the kind of industries or businesses they will be relevant to. It is very helpful to a newbie like me. It's like an on the go domain appraisal Course. :xf.smile:

What is the radio test for 5L domains:?:
+1 here

This one is somewhat "off-piste" for me, as I usually hunt for brandables, but this one just landed in my account from GD/COs!

MagnumMultimedia // dot // com
So much right with this domain ... A nice strong media name with alliteration. Can't really go wrong with all that!

GamblerHandbook // dot // com
Tons of money in online gambling. This one makes for a good information site to generate leads.

SilverRooster // dot // com
At first I thought this was a little too far out a combination to be considered a real "colour/animal" brand .. but after saying it in my mind a few times I really liked the sound of the 2 words together .. they work well for some reason! :)

Thanks .. although I'm a relative newbie "domainer" myself .. although I've made it a point to learn and absorb as much information as possible over my short time "domaining" (although I had domains for many years before with intent to develop). Thanks to huge walks with my dog I've listened to past few years of @DomainSherpa and @DomainNameWire which while I don't always agree with everything they say, have certainly informed me a great deal with the great bits of information and generally solid opinions shared.

I'm trying to make mini-comments on names I share on my daily lists of expiration auctions and $5 closeout domains. But it's a LOT of work considering the volume of names I share:
https://www.namepros.com/threads/at...-auction-and-closeout-domains.1006428/page-13

I've been fairly vocal on the fact that there is not much point posting names without actually given contextual information to give context. Like with Domain Sherpa I find it would be VASTLY better if we knew portfolio purchase prices because it can turn a phenomenal buy into a horrible one. It's still a great show because they discuss what the domains could be used for and projected purchase prices .. that in itself is gold ... but at the end of the day there's little context to if the portfolio holder is going in the right direction or not.

Similarly here at NamePros I don't see much point to people just posting a random name they bought or sold without giving some context from which others can learn from. Don't have to share every detail .. but at least enough so others can learn from it, discuss and share opinions on it. At least here at NP we can award posts "likes" and "thanks" . which don't really count for anything at the end of the day .. but at least it shows appreciation and that hopefully someone is benefiting from the information or opinions we are sharing! :)

CoreSecuirty.com
I missed the initial talk on the last page and first saw it as what you likely saw as "CoreSecurity.com" .. which would have been a great name! Don't feel too bad .. I'm pretty sure most of us with more than a couple hundred domains in our portfolios have at least one or two similar stories. I now always get paranoid after I reg a domain .. end up double checking a few times in google for the dreaded squiggly red underline of domain death! lol

This one is somewhat "off-piste" for me, as I usually hunt for brandables, but this one just landed in my account from GD/COs!
Cold/Beer/Store dot com
I remember that one from my daily lists .. at first it seemed a bit awkward to me .. but then I did see it more of a fun brand to use for a beer store. Good luck with it! :)

@Ategy.com - How long does it take for an expired domain with no bids to become available in Closeouts?... No matter the name, I can never find it in Closeouts.

I can never find them after either or forget; I know this isn’t an answer to your question; but what I do is add them to my watch list and when they do drop; they are still listed in watch list with link to them to buy at close out 👍

I was just speaking to my account manager about this, but after the auction ends they are no longer in my watchlist....
They are deleted from the watch list after the auction ends for me.

Just an amazing marketing brand. Could be used to promote just about anything.

A little more niche than I'm used to .. but student loans are a monster $$$ category.

Hey @Josh R .. GD auctions is pretty messy and unpredictable these days. It used to be names would predictable pop back up between 5 and 15 minutes after auction close. Now they seem to be having a issue for several weeks now where it takes MUCH longer. There's also the fact more people are snipping them. If a bot want a domain at $11 closeout and keeps checking multiple times a second, then you essentially will never see the name reappear. There's the other technique mentioned in the link above that was becoming more and more popular until I think it's been closed or will be any day now. I'm also not sure if 100% of the domains actually go back to closeout, or if some domains not originating from GD are excluded?

Take a look at my daily lists .. I post names that go to auction each day as well as closeouts. I've recently added $11 closeouts (as well as the usual $5) .. yesterday's 352 names at auction were down to 80 domains at $11 closeout today .. an absolutely monster percentage considering I'm deliberately pretty loose with the domains I list to cater to the wide range of domains that could potentially interest my followers.

They are deleted from the watch list after the auction ends for me.
How many domains do you follow per day? If it's only a handful of better domains, then it isn't too surprising none of them make it to closeout. Since Jan or Feb there has been a significant spike in domains being snatched up at auction .. add to that closeout snipping bots and it could certainly seem like you can't see closeout domains.

Also .. domains won't re-appear until they are back on the market .. if it's a day with a longer ended auction to closeout time, then at 6pm it would be normal for you not to see any domains from that day's auctions as closeouts. They might not show up until hours later.

Oddly enough .. the first few minutes of auctions each day do go to closeout minutes later as intended .. but then every after the first 5-10 minutes of the auction day is now significantly delayed.

SwimmingPros // dot // com
No-brainer here .. with literally millions of swimmers in the world .. there are at least hundred of companies with related products / services / lessons who would love to be known as the pros!

ItsCheaperHere // dot // com
I love this marketing name. Really focused on target. Could see it as the tagline at the end of a TV advertisement for just about any retailer!

AndTheNomineesAre // dot // com
The very famous award ceremony saying. Great for movie sales or just about anything in the movie / music / TV business!

Big fan of short 5L brandables. This caught my eye as it actually sounds like the word for "top position" in Japanese, and I like the way it looks. I think quite memorable. A fairly generic brandable in my mind, sounds kinda fun!

JavaScript Professional. Monster name considering how big JavaScript is!

PorthosMedia // dot // com
Porthos is one of the 3 Musketeers. The "extrovert of the group" as described by Wikipedia .. lol .. which is the perfect quality to be known for as a media company! ;)

Hivvi // dot // com
Nice strong pronounceable pattern 5L .com ... tons of lacklustre 5L's out there .. but I really love ones like this! :)

Nice 5L ... and perfect for an easy logo! :)

ClothesWasher // dot // com
Just a colossal exact match keyword here. Plus while most people say "washer" when they refer to one, that term is actually too generic and open ended as just "Washer" could mean a lot of other things or even people. Clothes Washer is one of the 5 main household appliances in a market worth billions!

RenewableGoods // dot // com
The future is all going to be renewable. Bamboo and other low carbon footprint products are only going to grow in demand. Not just because people want to be eco friendly .. but more importantly because with more carbon pricing/taxing on the horizon it will actually be the cheaper option!

AcornLogic // dot // com
For some reason there are a lot of companies out there who use the word Acorn. Maybe because it starts with an "A" .. or maybe because it represents growth .. or because it's a strong nut ... either way I like the fact it's got a lot of brand usage .. and Logic is a great keyword to add to it .. combined the 2 words sound great together! :)

The "Shared Economy" is pretty much exploding with businesses like AirBNB and Uber starting up with BILLIONS in funding. A couple weeks ago I shared a lot of Geo BNB names in my daily lists as someone no doubt let a nice portfolio expire. I really loved the ones I managed to grab as Miami and LA are pretty much two of the largest municipal economies in the world. Frankfurk I like for BNB as it's a huge travel hub for Europe. Tuscany is one of the premier travel destinations of the world. Finland is an entire country .. but small enough that a single BNB site still makes sense! Quite happy with the lot of them! :)
