I like the extension, but not sure there is any market for this ccTLD. Anyone have any experience or feedback regarding the .im extension?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I've sold a few, dropped a few, have currently listed some for sale on np too.

Two offers I rejected for circle and winner, which now I think I should have taken.

End user sales are still on going so that's a good sign.

As a ccTLD it will get most search engine favor from a local region.

Actually that is incorrect @Branko Jovanovic - it's inherently likely to get higher local ranking based on the fact that it is a ccTLD, but any domain can be geo targeted to it's set audience via webmaster tools including .im Even gTLDs require said targeting if necessary.

Also, a LOT of ccTLDs (not .im though) get global ranking, so much so that Google has granted them status as a quasi gtld in it's search algorithm.

Generic top-level domains (gTLDs) are domains that aren't associated with specific locations. If your site has a generic top-level domain such as .com, .org, or any of the domains listed below, and wants to target users in a particular geographic location, you should set a country target.

Google treats the following as gTLDs that can be geotargeted in Search Console:
  • Generic regional top-level domains: Although these domains are associated with a geographical region, they are generally treated as generic top-level domains (much like .com or .org):
    • .eu
    • .asia
  • Generic Country Code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs): Google treats some ccTLDs (such as .tv, .me, etc.) as gTLDs, as we've found that users and webmasters frequently see these more generic than country-targeted. Here is a list of those ccTLDs (this list may change over time).
    • .ad
    • .as
    • .bz
    • .cc
    • .cd
    • .co
    • .dj
    • .fm
    • .io
    • .la
    • .me
    • .ms
    • .nu
    • .sc
    • .sr
    • .su
    • .tv
    • .tk
    • .ws

sold my last .im this week
team dot im $1,500 / via escrow
dropped whisky, happy, tattoo, torrent etc before on no interest...
..no plans to buy/reg any more in the nearest 10 years thou - there's simply no market for them
especially when you have that many ntld alternatives now to choose from..

best of luck to the holders anyway

Brief info on .IM cctld:
.im is the Internet country code top-level domain for the Isle of Man. It is administered by the Government of the Isle of Man and managed on a day-to-day basis by Domicilium, an offshore Internet Service Provider based on the Isle of Man.

Can be used for:
Personal domain names for Instant Messaging users, Instant Messaging web sites, trademarks and local Isle of Man businesses

Reg at $8, renew at $40... Ouch...

They would have made much more with flat $9 pricing as a registry.

Transfer to another Registrar is better than renew :)

I sold SEO.im for $4,000. Several others in 3 and 4 figures too. Before the new gTLDs launch, .IM was doing pretty well but these days it's almost dead. I still own some great keywords like Mobile.IM, Fashion.IM, Social.IM, Free.IM, Dog.IM, Hotels.IM.

I think mobile.im sold for $7k in 2008 at Afternic.

True. The previous owner let it drop and I hand registered it. Somehow managed to get his contact. He told the domain was no longer needed. I'm lucky to hold the highest reported .IM domain and want to be more lucky when I sell it ;)

Hopes for the best. That's why I'm holding onto some top keywords...

Could have a market depending on the name. The trend seems to be toward messaging etc. Take for example spot.im which uses it for comments or beep.im which is a chat site.
