Transfering Domains to a Sedo/Afternic Approved Registrar

Namecheap was the first registrar I used when I started buying domains. As much as I like Namecheap, they aren't partners with Sedo MLS or Afternic DLS. That's an issue for me. I recently started registering all of my new domains through Namesilo due to their partnership with Sedo & Afternic, and I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it or not to transfer a majority of my domains from NC to NS.

I recently transferred two of my domains from NC to NS this past month and I can see the exposure has already increased dramatically. I have around 50-75 domains that I'd like to transfer out but knowing the prices for transfer (and I know some extensions are more expensive to transfer than others) I'm wondering if it's worth the overall transfer price.

I was also curious if anyone knows if NC plans on becoming a Sedo/Afternic partner down the road?

Thanks!

I would be interested in the answer to your last question too, as feel in a similar situation to you! I like almost everything about Namecheap (prices, breadth of offerings, service, clean user interface, no tricks to upsell services), but it is a pain that they are not an Afternic compatible registrar.

I am glad that your experience with Afternic has been good. I have recently put some there, but not yet got much attention. In terms of appearance (and also commissions) I prefer Undeveloped but clearly the network is smaller, but they have a good number of the top 100 sales so far in 2018.

Good luck with whatever you do. Which registrar are you thinking of using if you do transfer?

@MetBob - Absolutely! I like Namecheap too but the fact that they aren't partners with Sedo or Afternic is problem for me. I've been registering all my new domains through Namesilo. It seems there one of the few registrars that are partners with both Afternic and Sedo.

I have been using undeveloped this past month for a few of my domains and I do like their landing pages. My names have definitely received a lot of attention since the switch but I've been trying a few other options as well like DMP and Efty. I've been looking into building my own marketplace too!

Namesilo seems to have cheaper prices than Namecheap for .com and .org but NC still has the lowest .co prices around if you're a fan of that extension!

I definitely never want to throw away an amount of money but I've noticed that my domains that are in the Afternic DLS or Sedo MLS program has done significantly better as far as reaching end-users than the other domains I have. That's why I was curious about transferring the names.

It seems from reading some threads though that a majority of people's sales, apart from Afternic or Sedo, come from their own landing pages so I may just keep them with NC and promote them through my own landing pages or marketplace.

Hi Will,

Funny I was just considering the same thing. Namecheap domains don't work with Afternic at all. I can't even get them listed on Afternic, much less get FastTransfer/DLS. Same with domains from Namepal.

The other registrars which I can't get Afternic DLS to work are: Dotster/Domain.com, Pheenix, Dropcatch and Wild West Registrars. I can get these domains listed on Afternic but can't get the DLS implemented. I never receive the opt-in email.

The registrars which I've been able to implement Afternic DLS the best are:
Godaddy, Namesilo and Dynadot.

Out of the three, Namesilo is the cheapest and is a very good registrar, so that is a great pick. Personally, I may also transfer some to Godaddy because the account pushes are so easy and most buyers already have a GD account.

Let the migration begin!

@momentum - Namesilo is my new go-to for registrars and I do use Dynadot every now and then too.

I used GD for a week but I'm no longer a fan, especially with their prices. At least with Namecheap and Namesilo, they include WHOIS privacy in their reg prices.

I do like their Danica Patrick commercials though....

@WillW I also transferred all my domains to AfterNic AND Sedo partners.. I transfer between Dynadot, NameSilo and Name.com, all are great and are Sedo+AfterNic partners.

I prefer dynadot as i can just quickly approve the afternic/sedomls listing within my account, whereas with namesilo i never seem to receive the email to approve the listings.

And of course after you have transferred them you will be stuck in the 60 day transfer lock so you wouldnt be able to enable the afternic/sedomls listings until after the 60 days.

@Haris - thanks for the info! I haven't tried name.com yet but I have been using Dynadot and Namesilo for recent registrations. Love them both.

@DnFolk - I saw that when I first joined Afternic, but for some reason, Namecheap is not a partner of Afternic or Sedo. I confirmed this in a chat with their support a few months ago. Not sure why their logo is still on Afternic since it's sort of misleading. Maybe at one time they were?

Actually namecheap was premium partner when they were under enom/tucows but they left it and started registering under their own name and since then they lost the premium partnership with afternic.

Afternic should remove their name from the listed partners at main page @Joe Styler

Namecheap is still a partner in that you can buy domains from our network on their site. However you cannot list names in the (premium) fast transfer listing type from Namecheap. You can list names registered there in our (network) slow transfer promotion level at Afternic

I would prefer Dynadot over NameSilo. :)
