I really like the looks and simplicity of NameJet, but unfortunately they don't accept PayPal. Are there any other good backorder sites which do? I know that GoDaddy does, but so many people warn to steer clear of GoDaddy.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Dropcatch does, Dynadot. Also Snapnames, you need to verify yourself with credit card but then you can cancel this card or keep a low balance on it and once a domain is caught and they fail to charge your card, you can pay with paypal.

Wait, there's backordering with dynadot? I have all my domains registered there and I didn't even realize you could backorder domains through them. Ugh.

Yes, but they really suck balls lately. Catch something once in a while.

Ah, forgot Pheenix, of course.

I don't quite understand this. I've seen it said before but I'm not sure what it means. What does it mean to ''suck at being a domain backorder site''? Do they miss a lot of dropping domains or what? I've seen the same said about godaddy.

Also, what's Dropcatch like? Heard good things about it.

To suck balls, means they are very bad in catching drops lately.

The best are Dropcatch, - of course NJ/SN are still the best, it's the highest league, but the min bid is $79. With Dropcatch, you can backorder .com for (from) $8, .net for (from) $10, .org for $15.

The next i would rank Pheenix.

Thank you for the info. One more thing. You say that NJ and SN have the minimum bid of $79 (which I've seen) and Dropcatch $8; does that mean that each of the dropping domains is listed on only one site? Otherwise, why would you backorder for $79 if you can backorder for $8, right?

gd is the biggest most popular auction/registrar on the planet. its where most domainers get most of their sales... including myself... gd is exactly the last place you want to steer clear of.

But if you will use the discount backorder at DropCatch, you won't receive the domain because DropCatch's partner would get it.

I guess it depends on whether those domains are the same on each backorder service or if they're unique to GoDaddy.

But if you will use the discount backorder at DropCatch, you won't receive the domain because DropCatch's partner would get it.

What do you mean? You mean if you're the sole bidder on Dropcatch, a guy who is the sole bidder on another website will get it? Is that how it works?

The actual backorder price at Dropcatch is $59

The $8 @golan was talking about is discount order at Dropcatch.

The Discount Club is a backorder club for customers interested in backordering numerous backorders a day at rates lower than standard backorder. The Name Your Price model of the Discount club allows you to name your backorder price, and only pay what you want to pay for a domain name. As with regular backorder, the price you pay includes the first year registration of the domain name.

  • Discount Club backorders may be placed at $15.00-$58.00
  • Discount Club backorders are awarded only when NO Regular backorders or bulk partner backorders exist.
  • The winner of the domain name is determined by the highest Discount Club backorder placed.
    • In the event two Discount Club backorders are placed at the same price, the user who placed the backorder first will be awarded the domain name
  • NO AUCTIONS will be held for Discount Club backorders.

Look, you should understand how the registration of drops works.

You know some domain drops today. And you want it. But also few hundreds of other domainers do. What can you do? You can open a regi page at your beloved registrar and hit F5 until you see the domain is free to regi and then to hit "register". And it will work if you are the only one wanting this domain. Otherwise, you won't even see this. The domain drops in a certain time - and in this very millisecond is being registered by your lucky competitor.

To compete for a domain, you need to send API requests. Hitting F5 won't help. You build or buy API software and send requests. But so all other competitors do. Who wins? The one who sending more requests. How? By owning a network of registrars, they filling the "API space" with their requests. Dynadot owns (i dont know exact numbers, but lets say) ten registrars; Pheenix - few dozens; Dropcatch - probably few hundreds; and NJ/SN - i cant even imagine. You see? If Snapnames wants a domain, no chance in a world Dynadot can catch it. Let alone a hand regi.

Aha, I see. Thanks for the info. You're right, I did not understand properly. Thanks for helping me out.

That makes me wonder if anyone ever managed to solo backorder or reg a really good domain drop. Seems unlikely, seeing how competitive (and how much info on dropping domains there is) all of this is.

get a paypal debit card and use that at NJ

By the way...The Dynadot backorder price is $25. The disatvantage is that it's less likely to catch the domain than other sites but the advantage is, if I'm the only one backordering it, I pay less for it. Did I get this correctly?

NJ accept Paypal.
They provide Delayed Payment Option. When this option is activated, you can pay later using Paypal.

But you need to have a credit card registered to be able to bid in the first place.

What's the process? Does it act like a credit card?

I'm so salty. My beloved domain has been caught by DropCatch (and I used Dynadot). I should have listened to the advice above. I'm so salty right now. WHOIS says it's in the possession of DropCatch currently but I don't see an auction. It must have been backordered by 1 person and they're still in the process of acquiring it.
