Two-letter domain names are one of the rarest classes of investment assets for domainers. With just 676 possible two-letter .COM's available, these names now demand six and even seven-figure fees thanks largely to interest from wealthy Chinese investors who, according to George Kirikos (@GeorgeK) currently own 26.6% of all two-letter .COM's.
One name that isn't headed to China just yet is IX.com. Domain investor Andy Booth (@andyboothsi) and his brother James (@BoothDomains) look to have acquired this two-letter .COM. Thanks to DomainIQβs toolkit, we were able to spot the change.
According to WHOIS history, the name was registered back in 1994 with ThinkTank LLC shown as the owner. Based on archival copies of ThinkTankβs website, the company was an early incubator for companies such as Buy.com.
The acquisition price of this domain has not been disclosed but based on previous two-letter .COM deals, it's likely to have been a six-figure sum. The combination of "I" and "X" make this a versatile name with many possible meanings and a plenty of possible end users.
The Booth Brothers' plan for the name is currently unknown, but based on previous sales such as D8.com, it's possible that this name could be flipped.
Congratulations on the successful acquisition.
Update on Mar 13, 2018: The domain IX.com looks to have already been sold by the Booth brothers. The current WHOIS listing at the time of this update shows "Media Options S.A" as the owner.
