After a couple of years of holding onto our 3 letter .com domain during which time several strategies to develop the domain did not pan out-- we've decided to sell it and move on to other projects.

Being a complete novices at selling domains we obviously need to do a lot of research (good info here!) so I thought it would make sense to see what comparable (if there is any such thing) 3 letter dot com names are selling for. Uh-- hundreds of thousand of dollars?? Of course you can put up any asking price you want, but c'mon-- do sellers actually think those prices are realistic, or is the thinking just "what the heck worth a shot"?

Beyond that, one of the main questions I have at this point is whether you can list a domain on a number of sites such as GoDaddy, Sedo, etc. or do these sites require some kind of exclusivity?

Again we'll be researching what's involved but thought perhaps some input here might get us started in the right direction.

I stole this from another post. You should check for comparable sales on NameBio and DNJournal. We cannot help you with the value without knowing the domain name.

Yes you can sell your domain on any number of platforms provided it's a Make Offer listing. Because list it on a number of platforms as Buy Now, could be a problem if you get 2 Buy Now offers from different people on the same day.

If it's a sensible 3L .com, hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars is certainly not unrealistic. Otherwise, low-mid $xx,xxx is the bare minimum for a 3L.com. It's entirely dependant on what the 3 letters actually are.

You can see recent sales here: https://namebio.com/?s==EjMwMjM1YTM

Yes, you can list the domain on multiple marketplaces but, make sure to list it as "Make Offer". If you list the domain as "Buy Now" and 2 buyers decide to purchase the domain at the same time, you'll be in a very uncomfortable predicament.

I would suggest researching and reaching out to the best potential buyer of your 3L .com. This way you can ensure a better sales price for the domain.

Whatever you do, make sure you use a trusted escrow service to handle the sale.

Good Luck! (y)

"Sensible obviously being in the eye of the beholder. :xf.smile:

It would appear that escrow.com qualifies as "trusted"?

The domain is b y z .com. We've had it since 1996 (!) and for most of that time it's just been used for various proprietary, in-house projects.

Great name!

You may want to edit the above post and write out dot com or use // or \\\ between letters so this thread doesn't jump up the google rexamination your exact domain...

I'd say if you make an auction in Flippa/Sedo/Godaddy you might get $10-$15k. Letters Y and Z are usually not considered very good ones in names. On the other hand, it is kind of pronouncable as "buys", that's good. Anyways, if you list it somewhere with "make offer", I'd say $15-$40k is possible in 0-3 years.

Hmmmm.. I don't see that as an option. Perhaps too much time has gone by since posting. (?)

Nice domain! 20k-50k is realistic for a short-mid term sale.
