How Do You Spend $8,000 on Domains?

Buying domain names isn't the difficult part, it's selling them. How do you choose the right domain names to acquire in order to maximise your return on investment? This domain investor has an $8,000 budget to spend on names.

How should they spend that money? Which niches will give them their best return? In this discussion, there are several useful responses. If you're in a similar position, this may give you something to think about.

I Sold CoinDecentralized.com for $6,500

Crypto domain names have been a popular source of investment for the past year or so. We've seen many high-value transactions including Mike Mann's $195,000 CryptoWorld.com sale. In an impressive feat, this domainer has sold CoinDecentralized.com for $6,500.

That on its own isn't impressive, but when the domain is just over fifty days old with an original acquisition price of around $7, it becomes newsworthy. The details of the sale are in this discussion. As of writing, the domain hasn't been put to use.

The New Estibot is Live!

The popular, well-established domaining tool Estibot had the same design for many years, until recently when a new sleek beta version was released. This week, the new version has been deployed on Estibot.com and includes a much-needed mobile-friendly design.

With the new design also comes the ability to appraise five domains per day for free. Previously, there was a one domain limit. What do you think of the new Estibot?

Was Marshmallow.com a Bargain?

An eagle-eyed investor noticed that the domain name Marshmallow.com sold at Sedo for $12,500. Was this a bargain price? In this discussion along with a poll, domainers have been talking about the name and its value.

Many believe that the name was undersold, whilst some maintain that the word "marshmallow" is often misspelt. What do you think about this sale?

My $100,000 Maple.com Acquisition Attempt

Domain investor @MapleDots has successfully acquired a number of premium domains recently including Red.ca, Perfect.ca and rule_violation. However, one name they missed out on is Maple.com. The name is owned by former New York-based delivery company Maple, which closed in 2017.

The investor opted to move on from Maple.com in order to acquire several .CA properties. How much do you think that Maple.com is worth? Should the owners have sold it for $100,000?

Seems Like anything maple is a great thing ,I Transferred MaplePlumbing.com pretty late. At godaddy ,in expired auctions it got up to about 600 bucks,b4 I Recovered it so I would say the 100k would be a nice buy,hey at $2500 a barrel retail for pure high grade maple syrup,it would be easy to recover the cost

This may sound like a dumb question. What kind of website would you build with this domain. I don't see the commercial value of the name. Currently carrot.com is for sale on godaddy.com and I was a bidder on the name. I see the value in the name carrot.com I just don't have the money it takes to buy it. A carrot has been equated to incentive. If I owned the name I'd build an app. Businesses would be able to "Dangle a carrot" so to speak. Basically a coupon site. I'd pay $100,000 for carrot.com long before I'd buy maple.com for $10,000.

So I would answer your question. Yes, I think the owners should sell you the name maple.com for $100,000. I think $100,000 is a very fair offer for the name.

I think Maple.com is a great name. The fact that it can be used to represent practically anything is a great plus in my opinion. Carrot is also great. It is presently at auction at 61k
