The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Been discussed many times on here before.

TLD-List.com has comps for you. Namesilo is one example of a cheaper registrar.

DynaDot has a $6.99 for .com promotion until 31 March.

Other cheap options:

NameSilo $8.99
Name.com $8.99
NameBright $8.53

The above are base prices without joining any special club or discount program. At most registrars you can get a cheaper price by spending a certain amount, having a certain amount of domains registered there, paying a yearly fee to get lower prices, pre-funding your account, etc.

Personally I use NameSilo

I use GD, NameSilo & Names.co.uk.

GD isn't the cheapest but the IMO the whole package offered if you're using WP is the best.

You really shouldn't be using the same company to register and host your domains. Your hosted domains can be blocked by the registrar for some infringement of their ToS, which means you also cannot transfer the domain to a new registrar. Putting you at the mercy of the registrar. I would say that GoDaddy has had long history of doing this. However rare this might be.

Just imagine if a WP theme has a vulnerability which is exploited by visitors. They will stop your hosting, and prevent you from transferring your domain. They will probably block your domain at 5pm on Friday afternoon, and the department dealing with this is only open Mon-Fri 9-5. They have you by the b*lls. For the life of me, I don't understand why people take this risk. Always keep your hosting and registration separate. I'm not singling out GoDaddy here.

I have had domains and web hosting - both at GoDaddy - for almost 20 years now, including many WP sites. Never had an issue, and very convenient having all together in one place.

And I'm happy that it's working out for you. As I said above. I'm not singling out GoDaddy here. But I would remind both @auditionsinfo and yourself that GoDaddy have a history of doing this. It is, in part, because of my reading of these stories, that I think it's prudent to separate your registration and your hosting. So that in the unlikely event that this should ever happen to you, you can just point your domain to another host, rather than to be held hostage with a completely unusable domain. Please carry on with your successful arrangements with GoDaddy (or any registrar where you also host your domain successfully), and take these obvious risks. However slight they may be. Of course it is even more important if you have a high traffic/revenue domain.

You should also remember. If GD do decide to block your domain, this will not be a nice friendly conversation. As we are having here. They have the upper hand. And they will make you jump through hoops to comply with their demands. Like banning your domain on Friday at 5pm when they know they are not available for any discussion before Monday 9am. Which can only be seen as unnecessary and harsh punishment rather than any real attempt at working thru the issues to a reconciliation.

Only GoDaddy Auctions doesn't work weekends - I have been able to reach them any time at night and during weekends for any domain or web hosting issues I needed help with. If you have a domain that's getting blocked by a Registrar then you are doing something wrong.

Not necessarily. The actual name of the dept which deals with these problems, escapes me. But they only work M-F 9-5. And mostly they will inform you your domain has stopped working on Friday 5pm. We are not talking about regular support issues here. We are talking about your domain not resolving because your website is not working in accordance with their ToS. This can be the death of a domain if it is not resolved immediately, and could be much revenue lost over 2.5 days of inactivity.

I really don't see the argument that you would willingly subject your websites to this indignity, which can so easily be avoided. This applies to all Registrars who provide hosting services. Not just GoDaddy. But GoDaddy has been the company who seems to have the most Draconian tactics at resolving these issues.

But as I said in my previous post. You are welcome to continue to having your registrations with the same company (Not just GoDaddy). And run the risk, however slight, that your domains might be lost, in the worst scenario. Which would never happen if you had separated your hosting from your registrations..

I've been interested in domain names for over 20 years, and one theme has been consistent throughout that period -
Don't register your domain name through your hosting provider, or vice-versa.

I've seen numerous problems and heart ache from people who have failed to take this advice, some of the causes have been -

- The registrar has failed and gone out of business
- A rogue exec has blocked a whole range of names for political reasons.
- Wanting to change hosting companies
- Registration service or hosting business has been sold.
- Changes in the laws of registrar's country
- Decision to impose financial penalties on registrant to increase registrars profits

I'm sure there are a load more that I don't remember. Problems often don't surface until you decide to change some aspect of your business.
