Amazon just bought Prime.com - the domain name now redirect to amazonprime site:
The domain name moved from Fabulous to the corporate brand protection company, MarkMonitor. Prime.com remained under Whois privacy and the domain name did not resolve to any website at the time I published my article about the transfer.

A short time ago, I took a look at Prime.com, and I was forwarded to an Amazon Prime page within Amazon’s website. A Whois search at DomainTools confirmed that Amazon is the new registrant of Prime.com:

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
They really want to establish a strong brand with Prime and it makes perfect sense. This will only help them grow that brand even more than it already has.

Makes you think about attempting to buy domains that are a catchy phrase or potential brand strategy for many of these big companies.

Must be a mid seven figure acquisition or even more!

easily 7 figure sale!

Previous owner got the buyer they wanted coming in for it, but I’m not sure, i would have said 6 figures.

Possibly 7 though, it depends how much Amazon wanted it and who approached who and how long negotiations went on for.

Possibly 7 figures. I doubt the seller would sell it for less than 7 figures since Prime.com was previously listed in the Moniker/SnapNames auction in 2011 with a reserve price range between $1 million – $5 million.

The unfortunate part about sales like this (similar to ones sold to facebook) is that the person selling the domain rarely knows who is buying it. The broker stays pretty mum and its only after the sale that one can say..... damn I could have gotten more.

In this case the owner knew exactly what he had and I am sure he maximized his profits but I still wonder if he knew it was amazon buying it. That could have made a significant difference in the amount the domain finally sold for.

I wonder if it was a cash purchase or a stock (asset) transfer?

It will be interesting to look at Amazon's next 10-Q (SEC) filing to see if the transaction is mentioned.

Given the size of the purchase, it likely went to the Board for approval.

Prime.com is a very strong name. And what a great way to use it

Amazingly. Amazon has put it to use straightaway as Prime.com now redirects to Amazon Prime (amazon.com/amazonprime). I've also noticed some of their haulage vans (trucks) rebranded with the caption Prime.
