Magic Leap is looking for retail store design director (not what you might think from title)
But most of the news from the last few months 'suggests to me' that a retail (not dev) launch is likely in the next 20-30 months. That assumes they complete the other goals on time for this year with SDK and the narrow FOV 'dev units' so that there can also be content by that time.

Looks like they were the buyers of the VR version that Lucid sold.

Yea , they are branding with XR and brought all other possibilities to redirect it.

There seems to be some good interest in VR/Holo names at the moment

I'm in negotiations with one of my VR names and if the sales completes, it will be in the 3x,xxx range. The buyer is not from a startup but an existing VR company. We have been emailing about this for about 3 weeks and he is trying to get approval for the funding. I wont be budging on the price and I'm prepared to lose the sale if I have to, there will be more buyers for this name in future.

Just sold one of my holo names for 14.5K, will reveal more soon...don't post any names on here if you think you might know, thanks

VRHosting.net is still available for handreg and the dot com is available for only $100 more on HugeDomains, so i can assure you this is more about virtual hosting than VR

Ya know... I remember posting something on the Ghostbusters trac a while ago when they were first starting the project. But this is clearly a case where AR makes sense and in a compelling way to boot.
But now all we need is a stand alone AR HMD to make it happen for the public.
And of course, it's going to have to be affordable. While it is compelling content, we need to see more of it and be able to afford it.

Perhaps a free standing WMR 'style' goggle is the answer to that in the short term.
It's likely that Oculus's 'Santa Fe' may fit that bill. There are plenty of free-standing AR/VR goggles due out this year based on Qualcomm's 845 soc chip, which is the same mobile chip they will be putting in the smartphones with the modem burnt-out of it.
So the 845 is the second-gen made for vr cpu/gpu smartphone soc and I can't wait to see the 3rd gen probably a year from now.

There is no doubt this is going mainstream (a term I hate to use), but the speed of that depends on the cost of tools that make it happen. So you can make judgements of the speed of need for names from that.

Edit: BTW... the footage of that AR GB is of a smartphone app.

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2018 starts in about 1h and 30 minutes, there may be no VR/AR news but IMO is still worth mentioning:

It's nice to see Samsung using the therm XR, but to say "they are looking into xr" is a little ridiculous wouldn't you say? They've had XR products for years now. Why are you saying this?
This is the first mention i have ever seen samsung use the term XR if you can show me another use previously from samsung i look forward to that post .

You tell me Using your exact words “ They've had XR products for years now “ show me these products and samsung calling them xr its time to back up your statements.

@Winfluence i look forward to seeing these samsung xr products you say have been around for years as i have missed them for some reason .

You've heard of GearVR right? Is that not XR? Yes this may be the first time they've used the term. I guess that you meant the term not the tech. It is just a strange way to put it ("getting into XR") and could be misleading as to what XR actually means because they were one of the first major companies to venture into XR.

Very calm over here friend. I'm just tired of misunderstandings about the term, especially here. But not that concerned. It's like when people still call AR " virtual reality", the ignorance will resolve eventually.
