BrandPa.com has announced their presence on NamePros...
Hi there! I'm sorry your experience with BB wasn't pleasant :/ If you'd like to try our marketplace please don't hesitate to do so :) We're new in the domaining industry but very eager to learn! Let me know what you think or if you have any questions :) This is us: https://brandpa.com/ (or if you'd like to read about the sellers' rules visit this page: https://brandpa.com/start-selling)

Look forward to hearing from you!
Granted, the above post is from the BrandBucket experience thread, and will likely be deleted for being off topic / wrong thread, it was the first time I heard of them. The founder, @Jowita Emberton, had introduced herself in an earlier thread:

Hi guys! NamePros is a great website to get invaluable information about the domaining industry. As a reader, I'm here pretty much every day. As a writer, I'm starting today :)

I'm the founder of Brandpa (brandpa.com), a domain name marketplace similar to BB, BR or Namerific. We use AI and human knowledge to create and judge the names’ value according to how easy to pronounce and catchy they are.

I'm here to learn, get to know you and your recent experiences with other brandable name marketplaces :) We're still developing the business so any insight on our site (brandpa.com) or anything you're missing from other marketplaces will be very useful :)

Thanks!

I'm creating this thread to discuss their marketplace, and for those who have experiences with them.

Here's what I know so far:

The founder, @Jowita Emberton, runs two other online businesses according to her LinkedIn page.

Delighten.co.uk - Web / brand design firm.

Weddination.com - Polish wedding services

According to her LinkedIn, she has been operating BrandPa since August 2016. Though, the last cached Archive.org screenshot is a server error on October 4, 2016 HERE

BrandPa.com (2006) is registered to Oliver Emberton, founder and managing director of SilkTide.com.

Currently, there are 562 domains published / listed on BrandPa. It appears most domains listed are handregged by the owners. Not 100% on this; I will run a check when my program is working again.

After reviewing their listings, I found two errors.

upload_2017-2-20_14-26-8.png The domain regged is MonoRaptor.com, but the text reads ManoRaptor.com

upload_2017-2-20_14-27-32.png The domain regged is UnknownVenues.com, but the text reads UnknownVenus.com

At first look:

Pros
  • No Listing Fee
  • FREE Logos
  • Domain Owner sets price ($1,000+)
  • Forwards all offers for sellers consideration
  • Brandpa is a pretty memorable / catchy brandable domain.
  • Select 'On-Sale' marketing section
upload_2017-2-20_14-34-49.png

Cons
  • Low Alexa Ranking (4,557,819)
upload_2017-2-20_14-36-32.png
  • New site. Assuming low organic traffic, and low type-in traffic due to quality and quantity of inventory.
  • Piggy-back branding off BrandBucket in site footer see below
upload_2017-2-20_14-45-31.png

upload_2017-2-20_14-41-42.pngupload_2017-2-20_14-42-20.pngupload_2017-2-20_14-43-14.png upload_2017-2-20_14-43-54.png

  • Reviews are all from .co.uk domains, yet BrandPa doesn't sell any .co.uk domains. A quick glance at other domains owned by the reviewers and I wasn't able to verify any brandable .com's with history tracing back to BrandPa.
upload_2017-2-20_15-10-41.png

Personal thoughts: I respect that they "allow the seller to submit more domain names" by not charging a listing fee. To me this shows they are willing to work for your exclusivity. Should they gain popularity, I wonder if they'll sustain this business model and/or if their logo / listing quality will decrease over time when resources are spread across the masses.

@Jowita Emberton = Feel free to comment / fill in any of the blanks. :penguin:

no site in hell will admit to it taking 4 weeks to get a logo done. The model is broken. I’m not trying to sound entitled but what the point of TOS when a company gives bad service?

I do like your idea of pre-listings, except buyers are expecting a logo with the name and may not stick around for 4 weeks.

Have you contacted them? I have names that are being listed faster than your timeframe by a lot. In fact the names are getting listed faster the last ten days. They will not list unless the domains are pointed and listing fee paid.

UPDATE #1:

I haven't made contact yet but I ironically just got email notification that one more name has been listed. It's unbelievable that I must initiate contact but I will do so and update soon.

That's all true, and a published name on BP has a bit more chance to be sold (as the inventory is 50k+ at BB, and around 2k at BP). If you have a 100 domain portfolio on BB (let's say these are "average" names), that means you have only 0.2% share, so you can expect 0.2% of the sales. The same portfolio can deliver 5% of all sales on Brandpa... And I'm not sure if BB's traffic is 25x high than BP's.

Another factor is that BB may have 30-40 sales a week, which could be very difficult to handle by the sales team, and you cannot expect that they handle each domain sale with the same care and enthusiasm - but I think each sale is crazy important for Brandpa, so they are communicating with the buyers more successful (trying to increase their offer). But it's just a theory :)

I hope you realize that after posts like this one, true as may be, these ratios and proportions could very quickly change ;)

I have seen first hand what impact on things the "namepros effect" can have.

cheers

UPDATE #2:

I clicked on the email link and 3 more names have been listed.
Are you listing every name there that gets accepted by them?

I'm unsure what you're asking but looks like my names are suddenly getting updated since I posted in this thread earlier today.

Yes, but as Brandpa became more strict on domain acceptance, I don't think their inventory would explode and get anywhere near to Brandbucket's insane 50k domains :)

So i signed up with them. Submitted 5 for review. Lets see how many get approved. (y)

It's just that they don't accept other extensions except .coms :(

I just listed iCoinTalk.com few days before. I have no more experiences about BP. Its 2weeks now and I am still in wait & watch mode.

Let me repeat what I said earlier in this thread.
About 4 years ago BB use to take around 30 days to accept or reject a name then another 30 days to get logo. So we waited about 2 months for a domain to go live. And there was a thread just like this one. SO waiting an average of 5-7 days for acceptance then another 2 weeks for logo to go live is a relative short time. Be patient give them some slack. I think this 5 a day new rule will help the process go faster.
As BP grows and refines it's process and gets more people to make logos all will be just as smooth as BB.
We need more platforms like this and I'm sure more will start and when they do we need to be justv as patient with them.
Just a little side note BB is reviewing them fast nowadays and I'm sure BP will be soon also.
If any of you can make good logos and don't mind getting paid months even years or maybe never for your work give BP a shout out.

Anyone know what their formula is for "hotness"? What makes a domain show up on the hot domains pages? Visits over a certain time? Clicks over a certain time? Some ratio of those?

Hottest domain names

The names getting the most interest on Brandpa right now. How this works.

Every night we combine information from a variety of sources to calculate the relative interest in each of our names. This includes page views, enquiries, and other signs of engagement. Only names which are currently for sale are listed here.

That is right off their website. I didn't know this until one of my names listed there had a HOT next to it.
Hope that helps.

@Jowita Emberton

First of all, thank you for following up with the thread and listening to feedback.

Couple of suggestions:

- If you cannot implement 35/week instead of 5/day, at least make it 5 for the calendar day at any time. For example, I have time right now to add my daily quota, but I cannot because it happens that yesterday I did it couple of hours later, so have to wait for the same time, which is very inconvenient.

- colors: not sure if it is just random, but 4 out of my 5 names already listed have black or very dark background. I hope this is just random and I am not assigned to a designer with the taste for darker ))

One small hiccup I have had is having to pull 2 accepted names because we couldn’t agree on price. Part of the draw of Brandpa is being able to have a say in the listed price. It seems like there are limitations to that which is fine I have no problem selling my names for myself. I would not be surprised if the policy to amend the price changes in the future.

I had 3 accepted out of 25 submitted. All 3 were rejected by BB.
1 out of 10 on 2/5/18 - 2 out of 10 on 2/8/18 - 0 out of 5 on 2/14/18.

None have been listed as of yet but it's nice to get an idea of why they do not accept a name.

I appreciate the expounding on why they didn't except the name. They let you know why, which makes you feel good just to know why they didn't except it.

I'm tempted... let's go for:
bo/un/ce/if/y com
ca/st/il/y com
cl/ub/ol/og/is/t com
da/bb/le/rr com

SOLD

bo/un/ce/if/y is already live took less than 4 days (everything done logo and description etc), but I was waiting for one of my names to be live for several weeks (added on the 2nd, only live today 21st of February). I have two more names waiting to be published, will see how long it will take for them to go live.

I think it would be nice if brandpa address things like this. I understand that they own the marketplace & can do whatever they want, but it becomes a problem if you compete with sellers. This is only an example, of owners competing where they push their names before everyone else. Hopefully it is an isolated case.

Yeah I've noticed the same thing. Sometimes they go live fast and others not so fast. I'm sure it has to do with logo creation. I'm wondering if several people put in for same logo and they pick the best or if they just get one submission and just except the one?

Anyone have any issues with unprofessional and juvenile looking logos? The Logos prior to my debacle are great. The last batch distract from the value.

I personally haven't had any problems with logos at BP.

@urljunky - I agree. It is useful and insightful. More of a collaborative experience, than a blunt one.

My logo for appalyze.com is pretty bad. I know it's "free" but I'm sure I could have probably done a better job,
while drinking and blindfolded. lol.
