This thread is to share domains you've Won at Auction or Bought at Closeout

Closeout = After auction but before completely dropping from registrar and before going into redemption.

I *HIGHLY* suggest to post only after the domain is transferred *INTO* your account!

Go here if it's a domain you bought that was available at anytime for "hand registration": Your Reg of the Day
Go here if it's a domain you snapped / "drop-catched" after "Pending Delete": Your Snap of the Day

Feel free to disguise the domain like Slash // dot // com or any o|t|h|e|r w a y you want.
IMPORTANT: *If* someone does disguise their name, please respect them by quoting them directly, or copy/paste them directly.

Things to optionally include (or just simply post the domain name):

  1. What you paid for the domain(s), or the price range, or no price info at all.
  2. Any information, reasons or hard data (traffic, CPC, etc) that lead you to buy the domain(s).
  3. Where (or who) you acquired the domain from.
  4. How many other bidders there were.
  5. Whether the domain was "expired" or not.
  6. Whether the domain was at "closeout" or not.
  7. The history of the domain.
  8. What you see the domain being used for.
  9. Who a potential buyer could be.
  10. Anything else you want to share .. these are just possible ideas not "rules" ;)

YellowDomino // dot // com
Really like the rhyming and word flow of this one! Like it for a (yellow) cab company .. but obviously could work for just about anything.

PhotoAlbumSoftware // dot // com
I grabbed this because of the monster stats. 16 years, $1800 Estibot (a little more reliable for keywords). but more importantly a $9250 monthly search value (5456 exact monthly searches x $1.7 CPC)

JAimeMarketing // dot // com
Those of you who know French know this is grammatically wrong (should be "J'Aime Le Marketing") .. but it's in a similar way that "Like Marketing" actually should be "I Like Marketing" in order to be grammatically correct. But as a brand "Like Marketing" is amazing because everything social media revolves around getting Likes .. so I like this brand in French for the same reason .. the term used in social media for "Like" in French is "J'aime" (actually "I Like" . but it works in French .. I hope .. lol)

A little over a week ago there started to be a huge rush of names and of bids. On one of the days there was two batches of aged coffee and similar product domains expiring. Many were decent .. many went for larger amounts with several bids. These are 4 really nice ones that fell through the cracks a bit that I was able to snatch up. Couple of them have really nice stats .. and I like the Pods one as more and more people have those kinds of pod coffee machines at home. Also like the Club one as one of those box of the month type services! :)

Few more today:

IDI // CON // dot // com
INK // BLACK // dot // com - I really like this one as a news brandable
NEO // FM // dot // com - radio anyone?

Let me know (via PM) if you are a GD Auctions addict (like myself) and you want to pay less for the renewal / transfer part. Yes - this is valid also for DDC members - I know because I am one.

I am taking another stab ar premium .ws names. Won them on NameJet over the past week.

One of the great things is that all of these names are registered until 2026 so I avoid the renewal issue.

banking.ws
banners.ws
budget.ws
contact.ws
contacts.ws
cooking.ws
driver.ws
dui.ws
fax.ws
fish.ws
gun.ws
lasik.ws

InfuseMultimedia // dot // com
Great prefix to go with a media name. Infuse give the image that they are putting in something extra into their work for their client. I already like single term Media and Multimedia names as there is demand for them .. but even better when the term is strong and meaningful.

ShootingStarMedia // dot // com
Same story as above here. ShootingStar might technically be two words .. but it's a single term ,, and a very strong and meaningful term at that. Shooting Stars are pretty rare, unique, special and cool .. great characteristics to associate your company with!

RedCarperBlog // dot // com
Red carpet not just makes a strong brand .. but it's still open to lots of possible use options as it could refer to people, VIPs, entertainment, etc etc ...

I quite like it .. but don't see why it only needs to be adult related. Bonus that it makes a very simple buy clear and memorable logo. Most of my names are aged .. I should start putting those numbers as well .. keep forgetting! lol

It's a good thing GD has sooo many names at auction every day .. I think you're very similar in buying style to me .. although I think you're grabbing slightly more on the shorter made up brandable side while I'm a bit longer bit real 2-words. I actually almost went for Neo // FM (I know I remembre seeing it in my lists and thinking it was a good one .. good enough that I might not even have shared it .. not sure .. lol). Although nobody listens to FM radio anymore, I think the term FM still has people thinking "radio", which is why I liked it. The first one I saw more ID // ICON .. but both certainly work. It's always interesting to see different opinions and perspectives, of the 3 names, I like the ones in black more than the one in red (really like Neo)! lol :)

I think the only problem with the expiration dates with the extended .ws is that you can't transfer them out to another registrar. Some nice names. I grabbed a little under a dozen strong .ws well over a year ago I think I let them all drop aside from Wind, Likes and an adult word .. So hard to resist amazing single words with stats sometimes .. I'm just not seeing them sell that much though .. but if you think about it .. even most .com don't sell .. just hard to truly evaluate actual chances with such domains. Good luck with them! :)

@Ategy.com - I also noticed we have quite similar buying preference. It's true - I am more inclined to buy made up short names if they sound good to me.

Maybe in the US and Canada people don't listen to FM anymore because they have the Sirius stuff. In Europe and Asia we listen to FM all the time - even with all the streaming services. I even listen to my favourite FM station when out of range through streaming. :)

Anyway - NEO // FM was not that expensive. INK // BLACK might have been a little expensive.
I also like the "NEO" prefix. I own NEO // SEO too. You should see the offers that one got. :)

Nah .. it's still big here too .. just not for me .. I walk to/from work and live close to downtown .. so don't have a car (where I think most radio is consumed).

More importantly .. I use to have pretty much the biggest DJ/Club Music website/community in the world back in 2000-02 .. so I'm pretty much an mp3 guy (not even streaming). My go to for music is WinAmp! lol ... Plus obviously living in North America .. the music on the radio is pop garbage recycled crap for the most part anyways .. lol

For the last year+ when I'm out walking my dog or to/from work .. I simply listen to @DomainSherpa Reviews/Interviews and @DomainNameWire podcasts.

Haven't been buying much lately, as I'm focusing on a little outbound and also developing my first non-blog website. Picked up a few at closeout in the last month or two:

Grab/The/Savings[dot]com - I really like it from a marketing/sales standpoint, as it has a very positive and familiar sound to it. Quite versatile as well, and when you Google the exact term it turns up a surprisingly large number of results.

Ohasa[dot]com - I've been looking here and there for 5L pronounceables to add to my portfolio. I've been quite picky, but I really liked the sound of this one. Added bonus is that it is an acronym for some existing organizations, and also for Occupational Health and Safety Act (or Administration).

Rootganic[dot]com - Love the word combination here, even if I didn't love the sound of it (doesn't exactly roll off the tongue). Organic is becoming bigger all the time, and it can't hurt to add such a fitting brandable in that niche for under $20. Good news with this one is that I have a pending sale underway... received an inbound offer of high $XXX early last week and accepted without argument. Will post about it in the proper thread once I get the money.

Thanks !

And yea I only said adult related was first to come to mind it could be many things . For whatever reason @Amanda decided it's only adult related , which I have asked her to move my post back in the BRANDABLES. Section where I posted it !!
Why would you even move it just becuase I used the word "adult /sex " in my opinion !?
@Ategy.com you are 110% correct it is not only adult related ! It's not even a site ...its a domain name ( purple + horn ) it's anything we want it to be !! So until it gets put back in the correct BRANDABLES niche section, I will not get the proper feedback on it !! Please correct this

Edit. And @Amanda whyyyyyyy did you remove my appraisal section listing ??? To the adult ???

I did not ask for appraisal for (hard*ick or purple*ussy)

I was asking the general forum ( not the adult section ) for an appraisal on PURPLE HORN !!!! Where is the XXX in those two words ???
@Eric Lyon can you help me here please .

Thats weird. I once reported a nsfw picture in "purchase of the day" thread and amanda didnt move it to the adult section or hid it under a "spoiler" button because she doesn't think a almost naked woman is adult

Callisto / co

Many enduser possibilities, the problem is Godaddy and their stupid high .co renewal price ($35) - not to mention I had to pay 27% VAT.

I'd probably invest in a lot more .co names if not for this. They seem to be selling well, but that renewal price hurts a lot.

Two more:

NET // ONICS // dot // com - I'm thinking about establishing this as a brand for my domain selling business instead of what I am currently preparing NameDawn -> namedawn.com if you wanna see the current logo
Thoughts?
MAD // WORKER // dot // com - for workaholics :)

EquinoxSolar // dot // com
Solar is the future of the world. Equinox isn't just a term used in association with the sun .. but it also quite simply sounds really cool and makes a perfect brand for the niche!

SellItWithVideo // dot // com
Really nice call to action domain here for a media company in production. It's a fact that video sells more effectively than any other form of media .. which makes this domain name perfect! :)

GoldGanja // dot // com
Really nice canna-industry alliteration domain here! So good it's golden! ;)

Grab/The/Savings[dot]com

Grrrrrrr .. I had that one marked as a big buy .. but I was at work the moment it passed on auction. Unfortunately I have to hate you now! lol .. seriously though .. Very very nice domain! Congrats!

Ohasa[dot]com - I've been looking here and there for 5L pronounceables to add to my portfolio. I've been quite picky, but I really liked the sound of this one. Added bonus is that it is an acronym for some existing organizations, and also for Occupational Health and Safety Act (or Administration).

Always good to have multiple options on potential buyers. Another nice one. I like specific 5L's as well .. and I have a feeling more or less judged by similar "pronounceability" and phonetic standards. Almost impossible to explain to others what that actually means. But good, strong, clear, phonetically pleasing made up words that also pass the radio test .. many 5L appear like that .. but very few actually are.

A few closeout domains I've picked up during the last few weeks:
ProteinBusiness [dot] com
CigarMakin
g [dot] com
Philippines
[dot] cc
Costumes
[dot] cc
CarGames
[dot] me

I had the 2 .cc's on my daily lists of domains on auction to watch ... so obviously I didn't grab them .. I've had a couple of .cc .. just really tough actually finding buyers. I do like country .cc's though, you have to think it will interest someone eventually. I used to have a little over a dozen .. but I've let more than half drop and sold a few in portfolios. Kept a few though .. so I still have hope .. but only the strongest keywords .. I would consider a country name as a strong one. :)

YesEstate.com
Yes is almost too generic for a realty name .. lol .. but just "almost" .. as it's still good. I'm sure someone will find a clever acronym for Y.E.S. to go with .. one of those few names where the plurar actually would have been the better one. Definitely report back if you find a buyer .. and good luck with it! :)

Callisto / co

.co's are actually what got me to take the step from domain collector to actual beginner domainer in late 2016. I paid a bit too much for some as everyone does at least one stupid "plan" when they start .. lol. But I indeed did grab some great ones .. and I have since dropped the weaker ones. Many I bought as "hand drop catches" at $1.99 when they were released after their drop cycle. They then went up to $7.99 .. and now $11.99 .. so I've pretty much stopped unless they are fantastic domains. These day I renew about 5% of the ones I originally bought .. so I certainly do still believe in .co .. but my standards have changed pretty much directly in proportion to pricing and holding costs .. which actually is exactly what should be done now that I think about it! lol

Callisto is a good name .. on the fence for me .. it was on my daily list as well ... it already had a bid, certainly not high enough to get into a bidding war over. I possibly could have grabbed it on the drop with a coupon though .. $35 + $12 + tax would have been a little too steep for me. But it is exactly the type of .co name that does have a good chance of end user sale. If you have a lot of .co names then definitely get the GD Domain Discount Club .. with a coupon it costs about $80/year I think .. and you'll save $10 per .co ($25/yr).

NET // ONICS // dot // com - I'm thinking about establishing this as a brand for my domain selling business instead of what I am currently preparing NameDawn -> namedawn.com if you wanna see the current logo
Thoughts?

From a branding perspective I like NameDawn infinitely more than net // onics .. by a very very large margin. To the point where I actually don't like one and truly REALLY like the other! I'm about to rebrand my marketplace (just keeping Ategy as a master umbrella brand because I still love it as a short compact 5L derivative of Strategy). Still trying to figure out if I should go with a domain that includes "name(s)", Domain(s) or Brand(s) .. I actually have too many to choose from! so it's a tough choice! :-/

@Ategy.com - thanks for the feedback. I'll keep NameDawn then. :)

No completed GD auctions to report for today. I have 4 or 5 more to take possession of and after that I think I'm entering sell only mode again for a while. Will take the opportunity to complete work with my marketplace... have a bit of programming work to do.
...and I don't really like programming

Thanks for your feedback! I understand they can be tough to sell, but wanted a few to test. Right now, I'm only looking at .coms.

Will be posting two more domains I've bought as soon as they land in my account.

Btw, since you were already talking about domains to use for your domaining business; what do you think of NameHike.com? I bought it a few weeks ago, but now I'm having second thoughts. Should I find something better?

Thank you very much for the feedback and the advice! :) Yes, the price was certainly high, even with a 35% coupon (!), but I felt it's worth it. If I truly won this name, I'm going to submit it to Brandpa, and if it gets rejected, I think Afternic's gonna be a great place for it.

There was another domain I was bidding on, zentality.com, but I quit bidding when the price reached $60. Later it turned out the final price was well over $200... It's getting harder and harder to get a decent name for a decent price on Godaddy expired domain auctions...
