Why are .websites worthless? it is a generic tld which can rank in serp like any other tld but yet no one uses?
is it only the reg fee of $30? That doesn't seem that high to me if you have over 1,000,000 exact match searches a month? Can anyone shed some light on this for me, cause I am obviously missing something.

Well to start, the extension is 7 characters long. Quite lengthy!
Then you have an extension called .site and another one called .web rumored to be on the way?
Combined with a $30 renewal fee versus a $9 for dot coms.
And an abysmal resale record according to NameBio!
https://namebio.com/?s==gDN3gDOxYTM
6 sales in 2015 and then none reported since then.
I bought a couple (.99 cents) when they were giving them away last year.
Probably should have saved my $10.
That about explains it!

It's not a 'must have' for a prospective buyer. They can easily register a ngtld for reg fee.

Like every TLD, the TLD .website can make perfect sense if it is used in the right wayyy
Here is one example:

highest.website

Here is one example:

highest.website
@DOMAIN ILLUMINATI
Why is everything the top or the highest with you?
But back to the topic .website if every other gtld is taken like for example "loans" If you had loans.website what would it be worth? $0? Not worth regging?
I am asking all this obviously because I registered some .websites with 1,000,000 exact search monthly

redundant, we already know it's a website

Maybe because I am DOMAIN ILLUMINATI ;)

A domain is worth what the owner of it is willing to take for it - the same affects to the new owner after he bought it from the previous owner.
I don't recommend to register any domain without knowing - or at least strongly believing - why.

The TLD .website is indeed "redundant" (as @wwwweb mentioned it already above) - but only in a "technical way".
In a "describing way" it sounds very great as TLD.
If it is a "matching combination", I believe it has potencial - because "website" is simply a "timeless" "super term".

It is important to add, that the TLD .com can also be "redundant" - in cases when there is a new TLD which describes the context directly, here is (again) an example:

highest.website < not "redundant" .website
is and sounds 100 % and without any doubt better than
highestwebsite.com < "redundant" .com

No you don't understand its a .website that I registerd. It is not technically a "website" until it is developed.
It's just a DOMAIN.
Just teasing you @wwwweb
i am redundant sometimes. look at my picture! I'm an Orangutan.

the gems are
design.website
promote.website
advertise.website
marketing.website
webmaster.website
I wouldn't worry about the rest.

All priced out of the market.

And even those pretty much suck as names/brands. They just don't look right IMO.

I like .website and .site...if you have good combo for standard renewal, keep it.

I was not lucky with these tlds, so among few names I have are lovely / website and blessed / site...which are kind of nice and renewals are standard. So if you can get some 1 word combos which make sense, why not?

I wonder what will be impact of .web on perceived value of those tlds, as .web will be very powerful tld imo...we will learn in some time.

Actually .online is probably better, because .website is indeed redundant if you are advertising a URL for a website. But again, .online is redundant too :glasses:

Superfluity. When you use that word it almost seems like a good thing.
"I think .website and .online are both Superfluity." :xf.cool:

I think it only makes sense where the main product is a website - i.e. for a reference site for example.

I am not too keen on the extension, for reasons (e.g. length, redundancy) others have noted, but I did buy two of them when virtually all meaningful extensions were gone, and it would work as a reference website, and the renewal fee is standard and I got them at registration fee.

I doubt that most .website domains will ever sell for much above high $$ if they well at all, but if you get them cheap enough that can work.

There is talk of $30 renewal fee in this thread, but you don't need to pay nearly that. Renewal at Namecheap is less than $10.06, so competitive with other TLDs. Find lowest renewal and transfer here (no association with site):

If you feel it is worth holding @urljunky you could transfer it to another registrar - e.g. Namecheap transfer of .website is $13.06 including ICANN fee. But I agree it is worth looking carefully if it is worth the cost to transfer/renew given that there have been almost no sales.

@MetBob I completely agree. And I did look into sales of that extension before I purchased. I couldn't resist. I do want to keep a few for later investment. homesforsale, openstack, mynews, cleanenergy, and maybe hollywoodtours. Thanks for the tip at namecheap. I do have an account there with a few domains. I will transfer them their if I still have them when they are up for renewal.
