Network Solutions.... The absolute worst experience I have ever had, I am trying to move a domain out and I feel like I almost being hijacked by them.

My Story....

First of all Network Solutions is a Web.com company so both of them get triple thumbs down from me.

Bought a domain at NameJet (shame on you for even dealing with Network Solutions) and the domain went to Network Solutions for me to pick up. Immediately when I got there I was asked to make an account and the upsells were insane. You think Godaddy has a convoluted outdated control panel? Try Network Solutions, everything there is made so you need as many key clicks as possible so they can up sell you. The emails are crazy, I had to mark them as spam. You need this, you need that, you need to do this to get your account. While you are at it can we sell you that. My god it never ends, I have NEVER been so spammed in all my life.

Now the fun part....

I try to transfer out and I get all emails except the one needed to transfer, I tear my hair out. Eventually I get it and the receiving registrar says wrong transfer code (I cut and pasted it). That was the third transfer attempt. Back to the hated control panel I go and I say that lightly because you cannot call it a control panel, you can only call it the up sell from hell, they make you click everywhere. I tried to add another email address and more key clicks. Have you tried to add and admin or tech contact to your domain? Well you need to create more accounts and give them permission so Network Solutions can spam the hell out of those contacts. I am the same person, no other accounts.... oh what the hell, I give up. Give me my damn domain, no more emails, no more upsells, no more questions!!! Just PLEASE give me my domain!!!!

Now the not so fun..... I dig and I dig and I dig and finally I get to the transfer code part. Now guess what!! They won't give it to me, I have to fill out a form and they ask me why oh why do I want to transfer. Please answer all our questions before we can give you the code. After I do all that crap theysay if I am approved they MAY email me the code within 3 days. What!!!! Seriously? 3 days!!!! Your're shitting me right? Holy crap, I feel like I have to ask permission from my teacher and he tells me I can only get what I need if I have been a good boy.

Are they a hijacker? - Well probably not.
Do I feel like they are hijacking me? - Hell yes...

The saga continues, the transfer out from hell needs to be initiated a fourth time and I have to wait 3 days for my transfer code. (If they approve me that is)

The receiving registrar is shaking their head, I have NEVER had so many emails back and fourth to try and transfer a domain. If anyone ever says I have to put a domain at Network Solutions or a web.com company I will pass on the sale and run like hell.

So.... How was your day? :-D:-D:-D

[PS. This is a story of my personal experience at Network Solutions and is not intended to solicit other domainers away from them, it is based on my personal poor poor experience with this company]

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I had a similar experience with NetSol a few years back, and vowed never to do business with them again!
They're like a jilted girlfriend who just can't let go, even after the restraining order! :xf.wink:

Is this a real active registrar? I have never used them and never heard about their registrar. Good luck with your adventure.

I tried to avoid NetSol as much as possible. But if you absolutely have to, you just have to be patient and persistent.

Many people did not realize the Network Solution today is not the same company back in the 90's. Back then NetSol was the only game in town.

Several years ago I had to transfer domain names out because the company I worked for had registered all domain names (for various clients) under the same NetSol account, and NetSol only allow ONE owner per account. One client was in the process to file an UDRP and needed to cleanup the owner info in WHOIS.

It took me MONTHS to deal with NetSol, the "paperwork" to prove ownership and other little issues. Then during one of the transfer, NetSol turned off MX record pointing BEFORE the domain was fully transferred to GoDaddy.

Our email was down for a full 24 hours. GoDaddy couldn't do a thing because it has not received the domain name and DNS records yet, AND NetSol refused to look into it because the domain name is no longer in the account.

They must be a namejet partner because that is where my domain defaulted to.

I do not plan to do more biz in future with them.. luckily for me, netsol actually made me couple hundred bucks.. versus losing money with them

long story short.. they had a free transfer (though total misfire in the end) promo a year ago or so.. posted on np.. I gave it a try to see if it works but only used it to transfer 2 domains which I was going to let expire anyway (they were expired already).. well.. the transfer did work on those 2... and a month later one of them sold.

but I heard too many horror stories to trust them or think much of their service.

cheers

I thought namejet only delt with Enom. That's where you have to send your name when your auctioning through them.

Nope, I bought on namejet, had no choice, the domain ended up at netsol.
Still waiting for that transfer code.... been 1.5 days now.

Interesting was all of this over the phone?

Transferred out of them once I made sure to call them and talk to them about releasing the domain, they did and then I transferred.

I hear way to many horror stories, that’s why I stay away.

I'm a domainer, I own hundreds of domains. I initiate at my receiving registrar and supply the EPP code. I make sure the domain is unlocked and that is it.

From there on I expect everyone to do their job and not ask me a dozen questions why I want to leave. What can I do to earn your business, what other crap can I sell you. And best of all..... I'll make you wait 3 days for the EPP code and give it to you only if we approve you. I am in my secured account, I have been verified, give me my code and be done with it.

I think my receiving registrar had 4 tickets now trying to get this domain and its been almost a month.

Imagine if I had to do this with all my domains!! I don't like godaddy because of all the upsells but they email me my code and process the transfer, I'll give them that.

My current registrars give me my epp code on demand and that is what I expect. I cannot be waiting three days and begging someones forgiveness for moving a domain out.

So they’re not hijacking anything, they just have a long process on transferring out. Is that what you’re really talking about?

Been weeks in process now.

I have never heard anybody praising that registrar. And register.com belongs to the same bunch. High prices and what do you get in return ? A crippled CP and subpar experience.

Sure enough 3 days later I get the transfer code plus 4 emails asking me to stay...

I will keep you posted to see if I actually get the transfer this time.

It's a simple transfer.... they cannot possibly be this concerned that I am moving out... 4 emails?

OMG, I can't wait to have my domain with a regular registrar and I promise never to visit or deal with networksolutions ever again.

Snapnames actually. Namejet and Snapnames are in a partnership and SN sends their domains to NS (see - NS <> SN... lol)
This is only for backordering (and not registrar partnerships or private seller listings. I'd guess the domain in question in the OP was a dropcatch backorder domain which was caught by SN. The dropcatch oder itself was on NJ by @MapleDots

@MapleDots Can you confirm my hypothesis above?

Actually, you should feel like they're holding you hostage (and not hijacked. Minor quibble but imo hostage is the correct term in this situation)

I will agree 100% - your wording is much better.
In this situation I was sooooooooooo annoyed (still am) that I posted out of pure frustration.

That said a correction in phrasing was indicated.

Thank you for that (y)

Yup a dropcatch backorder. Been waiting to transfer it since mid November. Very convoluted process.

I have so many domains that sometimes I have to go back in email and physically check who I acquired the domain. Namelet & snapnames are dead to me now. The idea that I would have to deal with Network Solutions again is repulsive to me.

While there are other reasons to not use NJ, you can continue to use NJ. If your domain goes to auction, just check who caught the domain (you should be able to determine this via whois) and don't bid further if the domain was caught by SN through NS.

Also, NJ has private seller listings which will always be delivered via enom.

Netsol are horrible and yes they want you to plead.

Call them and they will send you transfer codes immediately. They will ask for a reason, just tell, u have sold the name. Thats the fastest way out.

And yes, its a shame that Namejet works with such registrars. But I believe Namejet has no other option than to tie up with them as these registrars have good old names. Someone had to auction them and share the pie.

Very true but with over 500 domains imagine if I had to call every registrar. Another thing is hold times when you are dealing with international calling.

In this particular case I think giving NetSol some proper crap is well deserved. In this day and age the process should be automated and they seem to want to make it as difficult as possible to move out. With my registrars, I click a link and I have my code. Two days later I am home where I want to be. This has been going on since mid november and has still not concluded. I'm still waiting for the transfer and keeping my fingers crossed it will go through on this attempt.

Exactly, when you are big portfolio holder you can't afford to waste time on the phone with trained monkeys. And you could be put on hold for 15 minutes, during which you cannot do much productive stuff. Even if you were a small customer they could have the courtesy of assuming that your time is at least as worthwhile as theirs.
At least Netsol normally complies with your requests, but register.com is more obstructionist, I once filed a complaint at Icann against them.
I have factored the time spent on transfer out into the price of the domain.

I dont think you will have to call any other registrar for codes except Netsol.

Yes, it took me 15-20 mins when I called from India to USA to get authorization code for 1 domain. I used skype, its free. And yes, time is the price one has to pay while dealing with Netsol.

Yup, you got it exactly right, because time is the most valuable thing we have in life and I don't think I want to deal with a company that makes me waste what finite time I have.
