Today, here in the US we have seen the djia (stock market) drop as much as 1500 points! In the crypto market, we see Bitcoin today at just above 7k!

We are also seeing reports of increased domain auction and sales activity!

I think long term, domains will provide shelter that other investment vehicles just don't provide.

Call me crazy, but careful acquisition of quality domains seems much less risky!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Reason why I prefer domaining. It gives me rest of mind.

I'm not going to say I told you so for crypto .. because it's likely to go up down up down up down up down before I finish this post .. but I just saw too much potential negative movement after governments start to take the currencies more seriously as well as a couple of other issues.
(Particularly as bitcoin crossed the $10k mental threshold which is the limit before a lot of security checks come into play for anti-terrorism funding verification, etc)

That being said .. I do think blockchain technology is here to stay .. and I don't think crypto is going to zero either.

For all we know this recent boost in domain auctions could be the result of someone pulling a whole whack-ton of money out of crypto? lol

Can you imagine someone getting on the btc bandwagon few weeks ago at the peak of 19K with large amount and now having lost 60% of the value of the investment?

The truth is there is no underlying asset for all these and hence they go back to the original value: worthless.

Same here, I told multiple times to people to stop investing in cryptocurrencies because the risk was too high and the profit margins we're slimmer and slimmer, especially in bitcoins (I can even provide proof). My only regret is that I didn't have money at the beginning of 2017 when I wanted to buy crypto related domains...but I like to see the positive things that are happening as there are tons of ways to make money anyway.
Totally agree with what you said, blockchain is here to stay but unregulated cryptos will never be the future.

We’re all jumping from market to market. This is what we’re doing. When there are good investment opportunities the money is going there. The big boom in the stock market with the crypto market cause the domain market to get lower. Now I thing that new money can come back to the domain market, but only time will tell.

And I would imagine a lot of those getting in late in crypto currency are just too darn scared to relinquish their positions at the moment.
I note the one or two '$30k by February to $100k by the end of the year' predictors are probably quiet due to the Oxygen-masks being in place.

@Constantin S .. I got a few .. obviously very VERY happy with PlatimunWallet (// dot // com) .. but also one of my favourite domains overall is CryptoDisco // dot // com .. every time I think about it I can't help but smile .. not only is it fun and funny .. but at the end of the day it could indeed make a decent brand. A couple others like CryptoDictionary, EthVC, Ethrm, CoinChronicles, ChargeBTC, VendorWallet, WalletCorp. Might have one or two more .. but that's pretty much it though .. not too many .. good ones for the most part that I'm very happy with .. so I hope the crypto market doesn't melt away completely! lol :)

Crypto won't die. That's 100% - it's going to go down and up, down and up until it's regulated. Do you think the bankers here in the USA will ever let money be made without their hands in it? Not a chance. I went heavy on cryptotaxkeyword names ONLY because crypto is here to stay and you know damn well the IRS will have their hands out waiting .

IMO domainers who have portfolios full of specific coin-names (eth, xrp, btc etc) are taking relatively huge risks, where as domainers who have more general crypto, blockchain domains are save. I would advise everyone to watch The Bitcoin Psyop by Corbett Report on YT. 28 minutes long, very insightful.

And who thinks domains are a long term investment?

Personally I don't think so. I think in the end domains are not going to be necessary at all. I think in the end we will just say the business name and google maps will take us there. We will just type the name and the google SMART bar will take you there. We will just tell out car were we want to go and it will take us there.

I think domains are limited in their usefulness and eventually technology will render them unnecessary.

Do I like the idea of that? NO
Do I realize it's eventually coming? YES

When is the last time we used a phone book, a few years ago we would have thought Yellow Pages would live forever. It is already starting, google search can check your internet speed, convert your dollars, do your calculations, and hundreds more features.... all without ever leaving the google search screen. The day will come when your google listing will be more important than your website because it will be your google listing that gets ranked and not your website.

It saddens me to think about all of this but all this is coming

Look what happens when I type apple into the address bar....

Eventually the info on the right will become more important than the info on the left.

It's happening already, we can deny it, but it is happening :'( :'( :'( :'(

Been hearing this same stuff for years (about 20+ years anyway) It was going to be AltaVista and CompuServe that was going to take over and rule the internet world in the 90's and even then Voice and Gesture were recognised as the supreme future inputs.
By your model Google will be delivering you to their first choice on page one every time. That should bring back Yellow pages pretty darn fast

As far as I'm concerned, a government forced breakup of the Google monopoly is way past due. No one company should ever have been allowed to control world commerce like this in the first place.

Spot on. A 3l .com in someone's account is more stable than any coin.

Google, Bing...... who else sorry can't think of one

Those two listing companies or a derivative thereof will command search and search is no longer search. Search is now everything.... just type speedtest into google

Picture0047.png

Now note that you can run it right from search

In the future that will be your business name.... first result regardless of what your internet address is.
There will be sooooooooooo many different extensions that the consumer wont worry about them anymore, they will instead just type the name of what they want to see.

I don't like it either but I fear it is coming.

Yeah, I've heard this for years as well, haven't seen one person come up with a good reason why domains won't be necessary.

You used an example with Apple, but I just see Apple computers. Not the fruit or some other thing.

Google Search - I'm Feeling Lucky, never used it.

Everything needs direction. While we can just program phone numbers in once and forget it, we still use them. Where do you live? That brick house over there, next to the tree? No, you use an address. You have a website, what is it? It's going to be something.something.

"say the business name and google maps will take us there. We will just type the name and the google SMART bar will take you there.'

Take me where? To a site, which has an address/domain.

Is the internet going somewhere? Are websites going to vanish? No, so there will be domains.

BTC was $6.500 not above 7K thats a little correction. The rest I agree with. It was great way to make money today in crypto buy at 6.5 and sell at 7.3 40 mins later!
