Just read a interesting yet shocking new change to YouTube Partner Program (YPP)

"Back in April of 2017, we set a YPP eligibility requirement of 10,000 lifetime views. While that threshold provided more information to determine whether a channel followed our community guidelines and policies, it’s been clear over the last few months that we need a higher standard.

Starting today we’re changing the eligibility requirement for monetization to 4,000 hours of watchtime within the past 12 months and 1,000 subscribers."

"On February 20th, 2018, we’ll also implement this threshold across existing channels on the platform, to allow for a 30 day grace period. On that date, channels with fewer than 1,000 subs or 4,000 watch hours will no longer be able to earn money on YouTube.

When they reach 1,000 subs and 4,000 watch hours they will be automatically re-evaluated under strict criteria to ensure they comply with our policies. New channels will need to apply, and their application will be evaluated when they hit these milestones."

Briguy you need to think like a 17 year old kid at first. Like a video of you movwing the lawn an trip over a rock, Hammering a shingle and the hammer goes through the shingle and into the living room. Or you drop a big sheet rock panel and it breaks then you pick up a piece and write something funny on the wall. Or accidentally nail gun your sweater to the roof.

One or move 'hit' videos with the kids and soon you will have the numbers. Since it is now in hours you have to stretch it out more, Say I cant believe that a bunch of times.

Also you need to make YT thumbnails, like a tool box on your foot and you with your mouth open, and big letters like "no way!"

Excellent ideas...did use a "shingle air nailer" and shingled a obnoxious helper hem of his pants to the roof..he reactions were priceless..too dad I didn't have a video camera then and there. Lots of "viral video"moments in my work history but no camera lol

Youtubes timeline for the new minimums really match it next to impossible to meet the 1000 subscribers /4000 watch hours.

It's a good idea (though, they completely deleted one of my Channel) , it will increase CPV and earning. 10,000 view can generated from one video to 100 video.

The most views I've ever had on a video was 300k something, and it was a tutorial on how to fix a windows 7 issue. I've reached 200k-300k views a few times with certain videos.

Another was how to find your facebook profile ID number and how to connect your MBP to a TV without HDMI.

Tip: SEO and topic matter!

Yes totally agree if your channels meets YT requirements, you should see a increase in Adsense/etc money but what about those all those small channels that don't make the requirements (@DomainVP ) will YT still shown them on their "up next" or even rank them, if those videos not making their advertisers money...Yes from what I read Youtube is the second biggiest search engine (which is owned by the #1 search engine)...

Youtube shoud have improved the quality of ads they are inserting into videos instead. I respect channel authors, want them to be paid and it would be OK to see video ads added as the result, but most ads offered by youtube are nonsense. The last video ads I saw on youtube occured when there were elections in my country, and the ads were like "do not vote for ZZZ because he is a vampire who drinks blood every morning" - for (against, in fact) both competing political forces. I have finally activated adblock on youtube after this. The only ads I now see on youtube are those custom offers or affiliate links that youtubers themselves insert to monetize, and (with some exceptions) they are much more relevant and interesting.
As a side note, a requirement "to have subscribers" also makes little sense. Giving even more private info about yourself and your interests to Google? Many people would not do this. Bookmark the channel you like = mission completed. Using privacy-oriented browsers like "ungoogled chromium" becomes more and more popular nowadays, so there is no sense in requiring thousands of subscribers

Valid points @tonyk2000 especially about subscribers!

One of my channels is a fitness based channel, highly competitive niche. I have 400+ videos ranging in views from 20,000+ to 6 views and something around 200+ subscribers! How is a "one man show" like me supposed to compete with the big boys? Spent enough on "natural fitness models " and a "camera man"..
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCk71lqvnm0RD5GgNzA1n-9g (< no not asking for subscribers, just showing for discussion sake!
Really not concerned about that channel, working on a "app" that will increase views/subscribers (hopefully)..

It my latest channel (one month old) 10 videos (total 100 views, 3 subscribers) that concerns me...will it still show up in search/etc...

Those views are really sad. I could do better than your whole channel with a single cat video.
