Hello! I purchased a domain from GoDaddy back in December, I got it from a closeout deal for about $17 total. I just got it Brandpa approved and went to change the nameservers, and its gone! I checked the whois and found it was transfered back to another user on the 6th of this month. I emailed him but, why was he able to do this and how is this allowed?

Maybe it sold via Afternic or premium listings etc?
Edit: What's the domain name?

It is NakedLinks com, 20 years old. I have the reciept, I bought it from Closeout on the 30th of December, and it says it was transfered out on the 6th

It was probably renewed on Godaddy by the owner, and you will be refunded for the amount if that is the case.

There is a time period to renew. IMO

Not anymore. With recent changes, domains registered at GD cannot be renewed after 30 days and a closeout purchase should be a guaranteed buy. Especially if the domain was moved to the buyer's account as was the case in the OP

Previous owner seems to have renewed the name according to whois info.

@Joe Styler might be able shed more light

What's wrong with registrars these days? Dynadot, NetSol and now GD. All acting weird and not caring about us?

Although you bought/won the name, can you confirm it was actually in your account?

You should have received an email from godaddy after about a week saying something like order closed, then the domain will be in your godaddy account.

After payment Godaddy require time/days to successful transfer.

The domain absolutely was in my account, As I said I listed it on undeveloped, I changed the namservers. How does the guy renew it when I purchased it from closeout???? I feel completely screwed, theres not a doubt in my mind this guy is going to pull some bs when I try and get it back. Hes gonna throw a 10m price tag at me or something. I purchased this domain fair and square and had plans for it

Usually the names are in my account asap, however, its been over a week and the name that was in my account for days prior, is now gone and registered to someone else.

Have you spoke to godaddy support on live chat?

I am chatting with them this moment and theyre saying they have no idea. I’m trying hard to get the DOMAIN BACK and not a REFUND but its looking bleak. I feel so cheated, if I cant get my domain back I am completely switching registrars and going to the ends of the universe to tarnish GoDaddys name lol I am so upset! I was excited to find and PAY FOR that name, and some jerk was able to buy it a WEEK after I bought it... I’m steamed

Edit: Was given the direct number for Billing, told to call and they would “Tell me why its gone”... to be honest I don’t give 2 sh*ts why its gone, I just want it BACK.

It is however registered at GD. Once its on Closeout, its a guaranteed sale right??? I bought it with less than 2 days in closeout period, than 7 days after purchase, it was removed! Why is this able to happen? Tech support says “This is the first i’ve ever seen this” but I call BS, How and why is my PURCHASED domain still being advertised for SALE?

yes, chat with them

if previous owner had it regged at gd then with their recent changes this should not happen

if he didn't, then it can, does and will continue to happen. gl

I have. Really, why is this able to happen if the domain was not reg’d at GoDaddy? (It was however so this shouldn’t apply to me)

cause people can renew their domains til day 40 on some registrars
or transfer them out til day 40. and if they do, gd request to get them for you is denied cause they are no longer expired.

but if you say prev owner had at it at gd then with recent changes this looks wrong

According to whois the domain was set to expire on 11/27/2017.

Looks like the previous registrant renewed the domain on 40 days after the initial expiration.

I have seen closeouts get renewed. I've had to wait occasionally but I have always received the domain. Only maybe once did I have one renewed after I purchased and paid. I received a refund. Still didn't feel good.

Sounds like somehow the registrant was able to pay the renewal and retain the domain.

but if it already got to your gd accnt.. which you say your sure of.. then im intereated to hear what Joe will say about it. usually gd is just denied transfer request if owner renews it.
