What has Haiti given to the world besides voodoo? What has Nigeria given us besides scammers, prostitutes and Boko Haram? How about El Salvador's contribution of violent gangs including the Mara Salvatrucha, better known as the MS-13? Or Somalia with their Warlords, Al-Shabaab and lawlessness?

Ethiopia, Eritrea and the Congo, to name a few are famous for Human trafficking.

How about Slavery's last stronghold... Mauritania
Slavery continues to thrive here. Mauritania's endless sea of sand dunes hides an open secret: An estimated 10% to 20% of the population lives in slavery.

The idiocy of this post.

Was listening to more reaction from African leaders about this. What a shameful and embarassing President we have.

And the revelations/accusations (Drake, Daniels) keep piling up, it is certainly not healthy to have a president that is subject to blackmail from so many sides, not just Russia.

Is it you position that are no terrible countries in Africa or south America? That Haiti isn't a terrible place to live?

Interesting some of the pics being posted to try to justify our racist President, as if you guys have no access to the internet. I say Africa, maybe you have some picture in your head of some marauding, gun toting guys in Jeeps, scaring up the villagers and that might be true in some places, just like some places in America are beatdown but there are plenty of places that look just like our downtown in major cities:

Hey Eminem, you have another alternative... why don't you buy a one-way ticket and go live in a sh*thole country :xf.grin:

I don’t know how many of you have been to the DR.
Haitians come into the DR and like most immigrants, they are economic immigrants. They do beautiful construction work I have seen first hand some of them, old world cement sculpture techniques seen in Europe architecture details. They have cool artwork too. I have met good ones and bad ones like anybody or any other culture. There are probably more thieves preying on tourists in Prague than Santiago or Santo Domingo, IMO.

Many Haitians work hard and like Latinos in the US some are exploited illegal laborers in the DR. Then the other faction of criminals arrive and cause huge problems. Haitians (speak Patua) dont simply know Spanish, so they have to learn when they arrive. The DR is a fairly nationalistic or “Racist” (for lack of a better term country), against Haitians, and more so than the US! The claims the mainstream media talking head Morons who have never ever been there to see either end of Hispanola country is of course telling only a part of the story. The DR and Haiti have had a brutal history too.

Haiti remains in ruins, year after year and at bottom of economic GDP in western hemisphere, for all sorts of reasons.

In the DR there have been repeated Haitian deportations, there is no wall they just gather up the buses and the DR now after realizing their own immigration problem wont allow “anchor” babies automatic citizenship either. They had more balls than the US armchair politically correct. But nobody talks about that. Its all this hoopla over Trump and his non diplomatic style and comments continually. I don’t agree with his choice of words nor like to read about his in-your-face comments and feel there is much political capital being lost, instead of being gathered with his derogatory comments. What he says if were made more palatable, common sense would prevail. Haiti is a huge mess. Its nearly impossible to do business there for many reasons, so they stagnate in their mess. People are still living in tents years now after the Earthquake last time I spoke to a Haitian friend last year.

There should be scholarship funds for good students from Western hemisphere countries to come to the US solely for education and entrepreneurial training. Then groups of them partnering together, and AND promising to return to start businesses. But the US American lifestyle “corrupts” most immigrants who would prefer not return to where they came from.
I watched a good documentary on this, need to look it up.

Have me or you ever lived there? No.
There are good and bad places everywhere. There are places in America I wouldn't walk around in the daytime. Places falling apart, crime etc. To label a whole place as a shithole, is stupid, not a good look for the President. What's also not a good look are you guys continually trying to excuse him.

Immigration and aid are not exclusive ideas.

We have a relaxed border with CA b/c they have a functioning Gov and economy. We have a problem with MX immigration b/c MX Gov is broken.

No, immigration doesn't solve issues of poverty or politics in the country of origin, but it gives people affected by these things a way out and hope for a better life.

Because in the end of the day, regardless of ethnicity, everyone everywhere wants the same basic things: A roof over our heads, enough to eat, a safe place to raise a family, and reason to believe that our kids and grandkids will have it the same or better.

Really? How many people do you know have vacation homes in Haiti? The only Americans that go there are contractors and missionaries.

Aid sat on the docks for months b/c the Gov is corrupt and demanded payment to for each box / container that landed or was moved off the dock.

BTW, those American shit-holes your describing have been run by democrats for decades.

You just think vacation homes? I'm sure there are plenty of people living in homes just like we do. Some of the poorest states are actually run by Repubs, Google it, a lot of Southern states.

Then, what does any of that have to do with labeling whole countries as shitholes? Intellectually lazy.

Assholes liberals faining outrage b/c President Trump spoke the truth when he called 3rd world countries shit holes...

You're making the wrong argument. The right argument is why shouldn't we take people from those shit holes? They make the best Americans!

We're a melting pot not a salad bowl. You might have Irish or Mexican heritage but when you become and American, that's what you are.

Reagan knew that. He also knew unrestricted mass immigration isn't a viable policy. It's bad for poor and middle class Americans, who should be our Governments first priority.

Just pointing out what he said was stupid, and the people trying to smooth it over, stupid as well. You don't have to defend everything. Don't always act like some puppet with this need to defend every stupid thing he does and says.

Whole countries aren't shitholes. Plenty of places look just like American big cities, rural, suburbs, etc.

This satellite image of the Island of Hispanola shows very clearly the contrast between Haiti (left) and the Dominican Republc (right) The devastation of the forest is startling. Only bad things can happen when you destroy a large forest. The mudslides in CA in the last few day is a direct result of the forest fires.

Sometimes a photograph says more than a thousand words. This is one of those images. Haiti is on the left and the Dominican Republic is on the right. This is not just the fault of successive corrupt and useless governments, but also of the people, who cut all the trees down till there's nothing left.

A barren land that is easily prone to all kinds of disasters, except for forest fires, since there is no forest left to burn. What a lack of vision or even common sense.

DEFORESTATION: BORDERLINE DESTRUCTIVE

Taking a flight across the Hispanola island border of Haiti, at left to the west, and the Dominican Republic, at right to the east, can yield a startling observation - a sheer contrast between a barren, deforested land and a thriving forest ecosystem.

Haiti has long been stripped of its once flourishing treetop cover. Demands for charcoal and other economic benefits in early 20th century Haiti prompted the deforestation of its land. Haiti’s environment remains one of the most devastated in the modern world. Only 30% of the land is arable, and a plan to eradicate poverty recoiled to be a chief cause of poverty in Haiti.

One of the most detrimental results of this deforestation lies in erosion and soil loss. Haiti’s forests were key in protecting against erosion, and following their disappearance, soil loss became widespread in Haiti. Karst topography is very important in filtering infectious agents in the water. Because Haiti is mainly composed of karst topography, a majority of its water is far less safe to drink, especially in a third-world nation lacking water purification. Haiti’s tropical forests used to act as a climate controller, absorbing rain. Oppositely, rain storms are now magnified into massive storms ravaging the barren landscape.

The Dominican Republic’s ecosystem, as pictured, is clearly quite different. It is described as a “mass of entangled foliage”, with forests and other vegetation constructing a continuous canopy of green. Wildlife is quite diverse, and the Dominican Republic faces little of the deforestation problems that Haiti encounters today.

This was the photo I wanted find. Here is inside a lobby. The column is very accurately done if you were to see it up close. All was hand formed concrete in 2010, none was like the US construction tract home, crappy phony styrofoam (construction prefab with sprayed on stucco) like architectural elements in the USA. The ceiling moulding trim, hand done as well in cement, not wood or styrofoam- all Haitian craftsmen working for hours. Economically impractical in the states.

@GILSAN Interesting deforestation issue. I wonder who they sold the trees to? Were the Clintons involved in that mess too?

https://www.gop.com/how-the-clintons-hurt-haiti/

The Clintons self serving interest is global.

Rodham Also Served On The Board Of A US Mining Company That Won One Of Two Haitian Gold Mining Permits, Which Was Later Placed On Hold. "Controversy surrounding the Clintons only deepened with the recent revelation, contained in an upcoming book by Peter Schweizer, that Tony Rodham - Hillary Clinton's younger brother - serves on the advisory board of a U.S.-based company that in 2012 won one of Haiti's first two gold-mining permits in 50 years. After objection from the Haitian Senate, the permits have been placed on hold."
