Huh? The post is still live...
Not sure why it is still live. I put up a poll and put a link to the Namepros link in my original post regarding XBT. That news post has a link to the Bloomberg article, the Bloomberg article has a link to XBT.com and BOOM!... I am in violation of some sort of terms here on Namepros regarding advertising. Apparently they are linking me to the Russian scandal and DNC hacking, suffice to say I am not at all happy about this situation. I explained myself and absolutely got nowhere......It all seems very odd considering this post has the same link to XBT.com.....Best to you Grilled...SIGNING OFF....OVER AND OUT!

After review, this was handled correctly. Here's the rule:
  • Rule 2.3. Do not promote or discuss active auctions or for sale listings in discussion threads or contests; auctions may only be discussed once they have ended.
This rule is necessary because we cannot always determine when members are posting about an active auction with ulterior motives (e.g., promoting auctions for themselves, for someone they know, or to support a cause). For simplicity and fairness to everyone, no active auctions may be discussed outside of the marketplace. After the auction ends and upon request, we can move the thread to a discussion forum for it to be discussed.

We have updated the warning you received to clarify this and better explain why the rule is in place.

It appears to me that you don't have any affiliation with the auction you posted and you're just being a valuable and contributory member by posting good content for people to discuss. Thank you for that. However, we still have to follow our moderation procedures the same for everyone and notate each time that someone violates this rule, so that we can detect patterns and have an easily accessible history of it if we ever need to reference it in the future.

I hope that helps and thanks for understanding,

Eric, I linked only to the Namepros thread in that post. It is a link to your own website. You guys have a funny way of treating people who come on here and discuss domains and contribute to the forum. I watch thread after thread of scammers. I watch threads like "Is There A God?" on this domain forum and yet I get a violation for advertising an auction related to the Russian scandal? Really? You have got to be kidding right?.....You guys have a funny way of showing the community atmosphere you are trying to achieve, or not.....I have asked you to close my account. Please honor that request.

I get this 100%.

But it is not the full story.

You have to think of things from their perspective. The rule is in place for a reason. And sometimes the rule needs to exercise some gray area, but with this, I can't fully say I disagree with mods decision to move the thread. The original thread you had written is still in prime time placement, news.

Depending on the thread category, some categories are eligible to trend. Some aren't.

In hindsight, if you wanted a poll, you should have created it first. No offense. Also, the poll is incorrect, given the start price for the sale is 2 mil.

I get a violation for advertising an auction related to the Russian scandal? Really?

Can you see your violation? Can others? What lasting effect will this violation have? I get it, nobody likes to receive a violation, especially when they feel they have done nothing wrong. But really, individual violations don't mean jack. I don't think there is one long time NPer who has never received a violation. It's just the way the eco system works, and it will not effect your account, unless it happens in scale. I think of violations a little like a nudge into the right direction... Though the nudge sometimes feels like a poke, and I don't like people poking me... But really, I dont think you were poked with this violation, more of a nudge, because your main post, advertising the russian scandal, is still live in news section.

I got a warning for my Huh? post that was moved to this thread. Do I agree with the warning? Mehhh. But did I violate a NP rule? Yes.

If you violate enough rules, NP will gift the account closure. You will be set free. But is the grass really greener on the other side?

I have asked you to close my account. Please honor that request.

You will be missed if they do. [reason for disliking your above post]

Thanks Grilled!
The problem I have with most is the "NUDGE" as you mentioned. Throughout history oppressor's have used "NUDGING" as a method to conform. A herd of cattle needs to be nudged. Sheep need to be nudged. Knowing that, why am I being nudged?....I did nothing wrong. I had no ill intentions and most importantly I was just looking to discuss domains, as this forum is intended to be.

There is clearly too many cases where this forum is being over policed and over moderated. This time it hit home. When content contributors with no ill intentions are "nudged" the same way the scammers and repeat violators are than clearly its a problem. Either the rules are written wrong or the interpretations need to be adjusted, become flexible perhaps. This case is not how discussion should go at all. I am clearly not involved with the auction, and if I accept being nudged than I accept being a sheep or wolf. I am neither sheep nor wolf, I am sheepdog and clearly not welcome by staff here.

This is the opposite of what many members accuse us of doing, so I guess everyone sees things through their own lens.

But since you've mentioned it, I should point out that we very rarely take any action unless it is reported. A large majority of our rules are formed from user input over the years of what the community wants. These rules are in place to be fair to everyone and keep most members happy, but they'll never be able to please everyone.

Your post was reported. There are members that fully agree with this rule and report offenses. In fact, that's the only reason that rule exists. Do you remember a popular thread on a gTLD that sold for a lot more because it was being discussed on NamePros while there was an active auction for it? Then a year or so later it went on auction again and sold for a fraction of that price? Even if you don't remember it, plenty of members do and they were not happy about it. That rule was instated as a result. Your frustration and anger is misplaced because we're just enforcing the rules that the outspoken majority wants.

I read the link. Please close the account. Thank you!
Per your request, your account has been closed.

Sorry to see you go,

Watch that IP address, or new user name coming up later when the the nose realizes it was cut off to spite the face.
Only decent place left on the net to discuss/etc, domain names.
Just my two pennies worth.

Seriously though.... @Internet.Domains

Sometimes a couple of nights to clear the head are a good thing but closing you account at namepros is not a good business decision. It's kinda like I don't care much for godaddy but I would be far worse of if I did not have that account.

All the big name players are tools a successful domainer uses to their advantage. Not sure if you can reconsider a decision like that but I am sorry to see you go :xf.frown:

Every warning has a point value attached to it (Which can be changed to 0 points by issuing moderator). When an account reaches 25 points, it is automatically closed. Most points expire after a period of time.

Hope that helps,

Why are you leaving?
It appears to be nearly the identical reason as Internet.Domains: other members reported one of his posts, a mod moved that post to the advertising section, and in disagreement of that mod action, they request to have their account closed.

While I can see that the post was most likely not him trying to advertise, we still have to treat every post that comes across as promotional as if it is promotional. There's no way we can know for sure who is being paid to post things or affiliated with the things they promote (I use the word promote loosely), so we have to treat everything the same: if it feels promotional or asks members to do something that is promotional in nature, then we move it to the advertising board.

If something this small causes them to want to close their account, then it's probably time they take a break. We respect their requests.

Account closed.
