information 6 Great Domain Names Owned by WWE

Spaceship Spaceship
World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc is a popular professional wrestling company that offers live and televised events. Since the company’s creation in the 1980’s, WWE has become a publicly traded company with a current market cap of around $1.6 billion.

The company heavily protects their trademarks, with many UDRPs filed by WWE to acquire domain names that infringe on their marks. Aside from owning the three-letter domain WWE.com, the company owns several interesting domains that we will be profiling below, thanks to DomainIQ's portfolio analysis tools.

PayPerView.com

WWE is famous for hosting many pay per view events with the company’s recent Wrestlemania 33 pay per view becoming the most-watched event in the company’s history. WWE took the decision to acquire the PayPerView.com domain name in the 1990’s, with the company utilising the name ever since by forwarding it to their main website. Now, the name forwards to the company’s WWE Network subscription page.

Undertaker.com

The pro wrestling company registered many of their talent’s domain names including TheRock.com, StoneCold.com and BrockLesnar.com. One of the company’s more interesting talent domain acquisitions was Undertaker.com, another domain acquired in the 1990’s. This one-word domain is synonymous with one of the WWE’s biggest stars, The Undertaker.

WCW.com

In 2001, WWE acquired World Championship Wrestling, commonly known as WCW. The total sales price amounted to $4.2 million, which included the rights to the domain name WCW.com. Currently, this valuable name is redirecting to a page within WWE’s website.

Aggression.com

Another one-word .COM domain that the WWE owns is Aggression.com. This domain was used to promote the WWE’s Aggression soundtrack album, which was released in March 2000. Archived copies of the website hosted on Aggression.com show a simple website that lists the album’s tracks. Interestingly, the album charted at number eight on the Billboard 200. The domain currently resolves to WWE.com.

XFL.com

XFL was a professional football league that played in 2001. According to Wikipedia, the XFL was a joint venture between WWE and NBC, conceived as an outdoor football league that would take place in NFL’s off-season. After just one season, NBC pulled out of the deal citing poor viewing figures. Whilst the league may have been a disaster, WWE still owns the valuable XFL.com domain.

ECW.com

Another three-letter .COM owned by the company is ECW.com. Fans of wrestling may be familiar with the ECW, also known as Extreme Championship Wrestling. As with WCW, the WWE acquired ECW in a deal that was completed in 2003. WWE acquired ECW.com as part of the deal to buy the company’s assets. As of writing, this short name redirects to a page on WWE’s website.

Since they started their network the PPV numbers have gone way down, using the network is cheaper.

I don't really watch wrestling anymore for many years now .. but I always had the impression they were still framing is as pay per view .. but more pay once and view everything.

Although even that doesn't matter at all to me .. the big thing for me is simply that it is being used by an end user .. so my dot org doesn't need to compete with the dot com .. one less alternative for a potential buyer .. and thus making mine more attractive! :)

Aside from owning the three-letter domain WWE.com
Anyone remember when it was WWF.com? They were using the term in a licensing agreement with WWF.org at the time, and then that ended, they had a campaign of "Get the F out!" sports that they aired to announce the new brand.

That was before all this happened.

Ironically, I think the first ever UDRP case was a WWE case:

World Wrestling Federation Entertainment Inc. v. Bosman Case No. D-99-0001 (WIPO)

Always encouraging to see end users highlighted that actually understand the power of domain names.

Even though, it redirects to their WWE(dot)com site, the "Undertaker(dot)com" must still make them money (traffic etc)!
Must say very well scripted stories that appealed to their target market!

XFL is making a comeback in 2020 under the banner of Alpha Entertainment. It is being pushed as a separate company but WWE do indeed still own the domain.
