Yeah, I would have taken it, no doubt.

Here's my thinking. If a person or company has a 75k budget, they have a lot of choices. Sometimes offers don't come for years at a time. I can't see turning down 75k. Maybe 7500, but not 75k.

Depends on a lot of unknown factors.
For instance, how many close offers he's had for this domain over the years.
Or how badly he needs this cash (perhaps he can put it to better use).

Yes, I think underselling it at $75k.

•••
Now, if you go back to accept the offer...it could only be 50k. :)

Well I have Lilac.info and they can have that for way less..lol.. He should have taken that deal..

Really? I guess there are sales to support more... but those offers don't come along often.

I turned down a $5k offer on a domain I wanted $9500. for (they would not go higher) but I don’t regret it, at least not yet. Still if the domain doesn’t sell for years I might rue the decision.

......

Don't get me wrong it's a respectable offer. But if they offered $75k, I don't think it's that much of a stretch to go to $100k - same order of magnitude.

Maybe we should ask @Michael Cyger what Tulip/com sold for? :xf.wink:

stretch it to at least 100K but if they won't go any higher; I'd take it and run.

Just me, but I could see this name selling for low $xxx, xxx USD. But you might have to wait for that type of offer to come along...

I understand Opportunity Cost plays into this. Take $75K now and use that to invest in more names. Or wait until a higher offer comes along (which might never happen).

Guess it comes down to the current owner's gut feeling on this one...

Personally, I would wait ask for a minimum 6 figures on this name with features such as 5-Letter Short / Dictionary / CVCVC / "Passes Radio Test" / Extremely Brandable / 21+ Year Old / .COM

Regards,
DN

Given that Mike Mann has 300k domains he needs a lot for each domain that does sell just to keep the oil burner running.

I can relate - with 1500 domains I’m loath to sell even the less popular domains I have for under a thousand.

You can't look at just one name, you have to have a strategy for your portfolio. If you are afraid to lose with each sale, you'll never maximize your earning per domain.

For example, you get an offer of $5K for your name, you counter at $15K with 40% chance of acceptance and 60% of no sale at all. If this is your only potential considerable sale expected, don't gamble. If you have 10 names like that, it is not gambling any more. Instead of $5Kx10 = $50K certain sales, you'd get $15K x 10 x 40% = $60K and you still keep 6 names that you will eventually sell at $5K-15K range.

If you own names like Lilac, which color and flower, you have to price them higher than $75K.

He should have taken payment in Bitcoin - that closes the deal now, and will probably make him more in the long run.

Good point.

Hell yeah, wouldn't think twice :-P
I don't know the guy but really I guess it would depend, like if he's already a billionaire, $75k might not mean much to him, he might've turned down the offer on a whim. Also if he's been getting a steady stream of offers and he doesn't need the money, sure why not wait a little longer?

Btw any meaning of Lilac? For me sounds like Cvcvc random. As I read someone also has lilac.info

He should have taken payment in Bitcoin - that closes the deal now, and will probably make him more in the long run.

The classic interpretation of a market price is that it factors in all known public info and expectations, so current bitcoin price has all the growth potential in it.

Meaning, roughly, that if there is a 50% chance that it can go up from current level, there is a 50% chance that it could go down as well.

Whoa! I have LightLilac.com. I will have inbound offer soon! Haha!
By the way, lilac is a lovely type of color.

Whether he takes it in cash or bitcoin doesn't really matter. If he took cash, he could immediately use the cash (just a portion or ALL of it) to purchase bitcoin (or other crypto currency). It is part of the "Opportunity Cost" -- meaning could he do better with $75K now investing elsewhere versus holding the domain name for some future price (which might be higher or lower than $75K).

We don't know his financial situation, business model, or investment(s) strategy. We also don't know if $75K was the initial offer, or they negotiated and that was the final offer.

I would probably accept $7500 for that name. IMO just because a domain is one word does not make it a six figure name. But there are other factors. If you know the buyer is Google, Apple or Amazon and you already have $1 million in the bank, you can afford to walk away from a $75k offer. But when you are in five figure territory buyers have other options. In more than ten years in this industry I have never had a five figure sale so I don't ask for the stars on mediocre-quality domains.

In my opinion, based on the frequency of high 5 figure offers, I would have probably taken it and moved on. I do see where Lilac.com could be a major brand. It's a great domain no doubt.

Don't ask you don't get. I've sold domains for mid five figures that mean little of anything to anyone but the buyer.

Are you kidding? I guess if you don't speak english well you might not know its a flower, color and scent.
