The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Even at $1 it would be 300k every year.

If those were 300,000 bitcoins....man!

Well, for a guy to own 300,000 domains, that's no normal person with a little bit of cash hoping to hit it big. He is a big guy. Let us say he paid a $1 for one domain that's $300K! And we cannot say he has sold some...because he still has all of them. That's unique.

Yes carrying 300,000 domains while selling and adding new names is monstrous.

Think about it. The first domain ever registered was in 1985. If Mike started buying in 1985, 32 years ago, he would have had to acquire 9375 domains a year on average, each and every year, to have 300,000 names. And thats if he never sold a single one.

I guess its only 27 names a day, 7 days a week, for 32 years straight. :xf.cool:

Hey, that calls for a lot of discipline and vision. Although, if he had started purchasing domains in 1985 his portfolio would not have "crappy" names. So, we can safely rule that one out

Come one, It has been disscussed many times. He has no discount! He even asked one in twitter and said he will be moving everything to godaddy if he dosen`t get any. he pays regular ffees like everyone else. Some forum memebers still belvie he gets some kind special ICANN discount.
my god
He doesn't have discount if he has his own registrar.

I just know when I get annoyed at having to update spreadsheets, parking etc....I look at this thread and realize it's not that bad. :)

With that many, I would set my best, the obvious ones on auto-renew. Then you would just need to look over all those iffy ones each day, or maybe once a week/month etc. That's like over 800 a day to go thru.

I would automate it. Of course, cherry pick around 10% ultimate best ones first and put on auto-renew. For the rest, analyze data over the years and come up with patterns what sells best, analyze type-ins, check for number of potential customers etc. and let algorithms handle it for me suggesting what to drop. Every year 5% of worst ones could go and be replaced by better ones.

If I recall properly, you were able to get them for nothing in 1985. It wasn't until around 1993 or so that domain names and renewals began to cost... and at $100 per year back when NSI was still the only game going, cost they did.

Mike Mann sells 9 domains in November for $171,164 (Clann.com, bitop.com, maistro.com, etc.)

Not a bad month!

If those were his only sales, then it would be a bad month, in fact, as that is only $2.05MM in a year, not enough to pay the renewals for 300K domains. These are top of the crop ones. Probably there are hundreds more averaging around $2K that cover the rest of renewals, other costs and profit.

I will surely welcome such a month:xf.love:

all Mike manes domains are selling in range of usd 4000 minimum and mostly around 10k to 20k....for any other domain er its a struggle to get usd 1000 for many long length keyword domains..he has a strong marketing team. but he needs to sell about 125 domains per year @ 20k to break even

I looked at this spreadsheet. It is full of pigeon shit, with not even 0.1% decent domains. Why are you advertising Mike Mann's domains and participating in this scam?

I fire up the CSV file from time to time for inspiration and to look at his pricing. Today this one made me smile:

TurkTorrent.com - $194,888 :xf.grin:

If it were me selling this, I could've made an argument for $19 (after 2-3 days researching the ideal sales pitch)

Crazy thing is I wouldn't be surprised if he gets his asking price. Might bang my head on the wall for a few hours but wouldn't be surprised at all :xf.laugh:
