Hi friends,

another of my name registered with godaddy was expired in Nov 10. I initiated the transfer to another registrarm, but due to some reason it didn't go through. Now I see the name has left my godaddy account and in an open auction now.

How can I get it back? Join the auction? Pay redemption fee? (still possible?)

whats the best way?

thank you

Godaddy should allow owners to pay redemption fee and get this name back when the expired name falls into public auction still

just same to Dynadot.

We give you 9 emails about your domain expiring before it expires and then cut off your DNS and continue to let you know the name will no longer be redeemable after it expires. If you cannot bid on the auctions you can email [email protected] and they can investigate it for you.

@omelet ... GoDaddy has recently changed their policy so that auctions can no longer be clawed back by the original owner after the auction has ended.

In order to do that .. they changed their policy that formerly used to allow you to pay their own redemption fee until day 42 after expiration. The new limit is now day 30.

This change was effective December 4th or 5th.

I did get an email (I think from my account rep) .. but I had to look for it amongst the dozens of godaddy emails I get a day! Most domainers very likely missed the change.

It's good news if you're buying through their auction platform as it means that some names you win at auction (with some exceptions) can no longer be taken back by the original owner.

But if you're a domainer who is used to paying renewals at the last minute then this news sucks for you.

I fall into both camp .. lol .. so I feel for you either way! ;)

I successfully initiated the transfer from godaddy to another uniregistrar. I think before a few days it got expired. I received godaddy email said I dont have to do anything but wait till to Dec 17, the name would be transferred to me

however, shit happened again. Uniregistry said godaddy rejected in the 2nd or 3rd day, and when I check it again, it is in auction

Oh, shit always happen.

I think I do received email days after day, thousands of thousand of different types of godaddy emails. I normally consider your emails as garbage. maybe my fault. But I checked, I didnt receive policy change emails

Sent email

Godaddy said will contact me in 72 hours, in which that the auction would be already finished

Chat with them online also, the lady has no knowledge at all

Send email telling the story and requested for quick response, I guess need to wait for 72 hours

It is normally much faster than 72 hours. Typically it is the same day.

But you didn’t tell me regarding your 30 day redemption change.

And when I initiated the transfer of the name, it’s just day 28, 29th

Godaddy sent me email said I don’t have to do anything but still cut it

My Godaddy auction account got blocked when I just became a domainers around several years ago. Not familiar with domaining and Godaddy auction, made some mistakes, then godaddy blocked me forever

Even I register another account, they still block me

No issues to resolve

If I m really that bad person, why I have all greets and positive reviews in namepros, eBay, flippa

No one offer a chance to reopen it. Every time when I talking it with Godaddy staff, they either not familiar with the issue and bring me to wrong direction, or they are very harsh and strong attitude in rejection

A answer to everybody's expired domain woes, is to not let them expire.

I used to transfer expired Godaddy domain names all of the time but it has been a few months, so things may have changed slightly. It used to be that if the domain name was unlocked and you had the auth code, you could transfer an expired domain name away from Godaddy 30+ days post-expiration date. Up to about 42 days post-expiration if I recall correctly.

Check the status of the domain name in the Whois. If it is locked, then call Godaddy support and ask for it to be unlocked and have them provide the auth code. Remember it is technically your domain even 30-40 days post-expiration, even if it is not listed in your Godaddy account. Then try a normal transfer of the domain name to another registrar. Only certain registrars work with transferring-in expired domains tho ... such as Enom.

Not sure if this will work in your situation but I thought it was worth considering ...

Here is the proof @Joe Styler
@Paul Nicks

Godaddy said I dont have to do anything. however, they rejected the name to transfer. and put it on market, then let it purchased by someone else
