Bidding on your own names at NameJet...?

NameSilo
Watch
Once in awhile I see people bidding on their own domains at NJ. I would think it would be frowned upon.

Today's seems more obvious than normal. Or am I missing something here?

Airlinejobs.com owned by Andy Booth at Booth.com and high bidder is BQDNcom (James Booth).

3 bids down we see Boothcom as a bidder.

Same thing with MovieZone.com. Owned by Andy Booth in which he currently appears to be the high bidder.

High Bid: $2,475 USD by boothcom

They actually won their own domain airplanesforsale.com. Im guessing it didnt get as high as they wanted so needed to protect it.

Bidder Amount Date
bqdncom $2,001 7/17/2017 12:23 PM
boothcom $1,950 7/17/2017 12:23 PM

Yon(.)com has reached $92,799 with more than two days left over at NameJet.

Seems a little bit suspicious with just two bidders over $10,000. Sure, it's a very nice brandable, but still...

Who is the seller? The featured auction account selling Yon.com is 7pbv4ugj. Other domains being sold from this link appear to have a WHOIS of Tucows, and some YummyNames. WHOIS for this domain is Tucows.com. Does that mean they're the seller?

Does everyone know who owns NameJet.com? Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong but it appears NameJet was a 50/50 partnership between Rightside and Web.com. Then, Tucows purchased eNom, and per this link, Rightside's share of NameJet was included in the sale. Thus, ownership is Tucows.com and Web.com? And Web.com also owns SnapNames.com?

So if Tucows owns 50% of NameJet.com, what commission fee do they pay to use the platform? Many say a domain that sells at NameJet for say $10,000 actually means $8,500 net after paying 15% fee's. However, some receive discounted fee's, so that figure slides. I wonder (since Tucows is part owner) what their rate is...

Also, who would stand to gain from questionable bidding? What percentage of NameJet auctions are paid for? What percentage of auctions over $2500 are paid for vs below? Does this figure differ in direct listed auctions VS expiry auctions? How does a nonpaying auction affect the value of the next time it's auctioned? [I'm not suggesting the bidder's for YON won't pay.]

What are the consequences for nonpaying bidders? Some of you may noticed mentioning of a $10 non-payment fee for "Past Due" auctions in their FAQ...

upload_2017-12-12_22-35-10.png

According to archive.org records from 2008 HERE, the below screenshot details the old $10 non-payment fee process.

upload_2017-12-12_23-19-10.png

In more recent times, I can recall two examples of non-paying bidders that have some kind of mentioning of a follow up. One with a legal consequence, and the other was possibly given an exception after the winning bidder cited an article about the auction having possible trademark concerns.

In April 2013 MD.org sold for $555,650. Apparently, the buyer was a non-payer, and according to this interesting article on TheDomains.com HERE, a suit was filed by July 2013 as a response. This follow up from TheDomains.com HERE shows the lawsuit being withdrawn, and the domain being transferred. Represented by ESQwire.com. More before the sale from DomainNameWire.com HERE and DomainInvesting.com HERE

Earlier in 2017, Andrew Rosener states in the comments why the auction sale of Wi.com was cancelled HERE Did NameJet accept that reasoning for not following through with the bid? Was INDEX still allowed to participate in NJ auctions?

Never heard of them either, but I do recognize most other lower level bidder names on the list.

Have scaled back at NameJet, just can’t trust management, therefore the platform, plus cryto currencies are more fun as long as they keep going up 100 percent everyday, just sell, and buy the next tier down, rinse, and repeat, better than getting run up at NameJerk.

Anyway, let me give you the output from a single auction to make it more clear:

================
filet.com closed on 2017-07-10 at $9800
Refund of $2200 is recommended for juggernaut. ($9800 - $7600)
http://www.namejet.com/Pages/Auctions/StandardDetails.aspx?auctionid=3951668

Reasoning:
juggernaut bid $9800 at 2017-07-10 16:16:00
hkdn bid $9700 at 2017-07-10 16:16:00
hkdn bid $9564 at 2017-07-10 16:11:00
juggernaut bid $9464 at 2017-07-10 16:11:00
hkdn bid $8989 at 2017-07-10 16:10:00
juggernaut bid $8889 at 2017-07-10 16:10:00
hkdn bid $8588 at 2017-07-10 16:05:00
juggernaut bid $8488 at 2017-07-10 16:05:00
hkdn bid $8388 at 2017-07-10 16:05:00
juggernaut bid $8288 at 2017-07-10 16:05:00
hkdn bid $8164 at 2017-07-10 16:00:00
juggernaut bid $8064 at 2017-07-10 16:00:00
hkdn bid $7878 at 2017-07-10 15:55:00
juggernaut bid $7778 at 2017-07-10 15:55:00
hkdn bid $7600 at 2017-07-10 15:43:00 <= Winner would have bid this with no shill.
neally bid $7500 at 2017-07-10 15:43:00 <= Last legitimate third-party bid.
================

This still isn't clear to me.

At the time @Michael wrote the above quoted post [July 20th, 2017] the auction page had a high bid of $9,800 by Juggernaut followed by We're sorry, you weren't the high bidder.

upload_2017-12-13_2-40-16.png

At some point, after this thread was created, this auction page changed to a $0 high bid followed by We're sorry, this auction was cancelled.

upload_2017-12-13_2-42-25.png

According to this article from DomainGang.com HERE, NameJet alias Juggernaut is Ammar Kubba. Does anybody know if Ammar Kubba is active on NamePros? I would tag him if I knew his NP username. Sure would be great if he could shed some light as to what happened here... Was he issued a refund like @Hemanttilotia ?

One day before this thread was created, before I had any major sherpa or namejet concerns, HERE I had quoted Andrew's DomainSherpa.com transcription mentioning the sale of Filet.com as my favorite quote from that episode. Fully believing that the filet was kosher...

upload_2017-12-13_2-51-28.png

In addition to this cancelled auctionsale, according to GoldNames.com, Filet.com was listed at least two other times on NameJet but didn't meet reserve with high bids of $15k and $20k by HKDN and QC1 respectively.

I can't find archived screenshots of the February 2017 listing of Filet.com. According to GoldNames, the reserve wasn't met at $20k. If my unconfirmed source is correct the high bidder was QC1. with HKDN also bidding.
upload_2017-12-13_2-58-18.png
HERE

Then in May 2017, HKDN was the high bidder at $15,000 in reserve not met Filet.com auction.

http://web.archive.org/web/20170523...ctions/StandardDetails.aspx?auctionid=3929076
upload_2017-12-13_2-56-20.png

HKDN: $839,346 in recommended refunds across 2243 auctions.

If the HKDN 'bid-up' of the $9,800 filet.com sale was cancelled, that might alter the total estimated recommended refund calculation.

Hejako is bidding on LOTS of NJ open auctions right now. Their bidding may very well be legit. I will see if I can uncover who is behind the alias. Perhaps new buyers with deep pockets, or a tech entrepreneur?

Anyways, check out http://www.namejet.com/Pages/Auctions/PickList.aspx?type=FeaturedList

WHOIS is under privacy, so I'm not sure who the seller is. In July 2016 Protege.com was forwarded to a NameCorp.com landing page. http://research.domaintools.com/research/screenshot-history/protege.com/#0

Shane please make sure of the facts before you start insinuating and start another doxing crusade.

DPNP.COM sold on NJ on 7th of December and has not transferred ownership yet. For a available whois of who hejako is please look at the domain www(dot)iyet(dot)com. Which he also won at NJ amongt many many other names.

Huh? What could be more factual than an auction with a winner and a current who.is? And my statement already worked because you just provided more information to research. My job is done here

And please do let me know if you need help doing actual research instead of posting inflammatory accusations without knowing any facts.. You even go as far as say you are helping... Wauw..

If committing libel and muddying an already muddy picture is helping then you really are doing a great job.

My mistake. Oliver was the seller, not the buyer. Just hasn't transferred yet. And Promo. You have no idea what libel even means. Oliver is one of the best domain buyers and sellers in the world. But he was absolutely part of unnatural bidding whether he understood he was or not. But the past is the past and me putting this up drug it all out. I would take it down if I could.

In short, I jumped too quickly to my conclusion and was wrong. I apologize and will apologize to Oliver

Eating crow is good. I know exactly what I am talking about but we don't have to go through all that again. And I would say your name but of course I have no idea who I am talking to. Some guy that calls himself a broker named promo. Like arguing with a shadow.

Ohh poor Shane. I see you have "mad respect" for the person you accused of shill bidding. Funny to read you that email. You are good at being a sycophant.

Next time maybe check facts before you accuse your guru of ill intent.

@promo - Where do you get the notion that the picture is "muddy" regarding whether or not Oliver Hodger is a shill bidder from?

Oliver Hodger bid on his own auctions. This is not some kind of muddy conjecture, it's an indisputable fact. He has utilized shill bidding to drive up the prices of his own auctions.

For anyone that hasn’t read through all 63 pages, check out this, this and this post for examples, and there are lots more examples as well - how muddy is the picture really? Oliver bid on 1000+ of his own auctions with his bid handles "seek" and "winner8888"; seek is his well known main bid handle and he even acknowledged that the "winner8888" handle belongs to him as well. He should have been banned selling names at NameJet after his history of serial shill bidding (unfortunately NameJet general manager Jonathan Tenenbaum is not willing to take a stance against shill bidding, as they earn more thanks to such unnatural bidding activity...). Isn't bidding on your own auctions more than one thousand times with multiple handles is shill bidding?

Even though it is evident that Oliver bid on his own auctions you continue to claim that it is untrue and "muddy" because you work for Oliver Hodger as a broker, and this is a way to curry favor with him, getting him to send you more names to broker.

All thats missing bidding is HKDN, 26,000-$30,000 bids, did he take a day off here? I see “Cache” mentioned on the Fav thread from yesterday put in a minimum bid on EIQ. Is this the same Cache on Flippa?

In regards to the auction of Protege.com.
Hejako was the high bidder at $50,500, and the reserve hadn't been met. anasacebaruzzi bid of $52,000 had apparently met the reserve.

Has anyone got an email address for Jonathan Tenenbaum the CEO of namejet? We're disappointed by the regular Namejet Support ticket staff, they don't understand registrars and getting domains released to buyers, and we still don't have our domain several months after winning auction. The domain went to Nameshare.com registrar FYI

Hat tip to Tony [one of DomainGang's many great commenters] for noticing the reserve in the CPU.com had decreased.

upload_2017-12-15_1-34-25.png

https://domaingang.com/domain-news/...-ends-in-16-hours-where-are-intel-and-amd-at/

Per NameJet's shill bidding update HERE they state NameJet had suspended their next bid win practice until further notice. I am not aware of any notice that suggests the program had been reinstated. I can't confirm if that was or wasn't the case in CPU.com, but per the below screenshot it is obvious the seller lowered their reserve price. Given the reserve was lowered to within the range of the last bid, I wonder if the next bid would have met reserve?

upload_2017-12-15_1-25-50.png

Before: [with just over 16 hours left] The reserve shows between $200,000 and $300,000
upload_2017-12-15_1-42-47.png

NOW: [ended] The reserve shows between $200,001 and $300,000 $100,001 and $200,000
upload_2017-12-15_1-37-34.png

Also, in reference to the Protege.com auction and possible next win scenario's, it appears the next bid of $52,000 by anasacebaruzzi had met reserve and subsequently resulted in a winning bid. Not sure if hejako knew the reserve, had a coincidental bid close to the reserve, or if the reserve was lowered?? Either way, it apparently resulted in anasacebaruzzi bid of $52,000 meeting reserve, when the previous $50,500 bid by hejako was under reserve.
Maybe I'm missing something? See the screenshots of the Protege.com auction in previous comments to see for yourself.

Additional info regarding NameJet and Yon.com...

It appears that it was listed on NameJet in February of 2013. Since the 2013 auction isn't appearing on sales reporting sites, it leads me to believe the auction didn't meet reserve???

Has anyone got an email address for Jonathan Tenenbaum the CEO of namejet?

I think the below emails are correct.

Jonathan Tenenbaum: [email protected]
He could also be using [email protected] as that email is used in quite a few WHOIS.

Other contacts at NameJet.com

Scott Pruit: [email protected]
Laurie Krick: [email protected]

According to this article HERE by DomainGang, you can email [email protected] if you want to ask Jesus any questions about namejet, or the afterlife.

You can also email [email protected] to report questionable bidding, and/or contribute to the community lead external audit. They are requesting as many bid logs as possible, especially now that NameJet has removed historical bid logs from the public.
