My GoDaddy buy, help needed!

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
So i buy a domain on godaddy auctions that a seller has listed for a 'buy now' amount.

I contact godaddy 5 days later asking when do i get the domain transferred into my account and they reply today with -

Discussion NotesSupport Staff ResponseDear Stu,

The domain was listed by another GoDaddy Auctions member, the domain does not transfer automatically. You will need to purchase a transfer in your account for the name. Once you have a transfer you will need to use the ‘Email Seller’ link in your GoDaddy Auctions account to contact the seller and work out the transfer of the domain name. The link to email the seller will not be available until the 6th day after payment as we have a 5 day verification period of the funds. If the seller does not provide the domain name, you will need to file a dispute per the Domain Name Aftermarket Membership Agreement:

So they now want me to pay a transfer fee and then contact the seller and arrange for it to be transferred. Is this normal? Thought godaddy would have taken care of the transfer since the domain is already registered at godaddy and is being transferred to my godaddy account. Very confused here

Reach out to NP member Joe Styler, GD's aftermarket manager. He may be able to offer a more in-depth resolution...cheers!

The whole point of the seller listing it because he was unsure how to transfer the domain, he thought by listing it at godaddy that it would transfer automatically!

It must be so. For the fees and for all high prices godaddy has.

Joe can surely clarify, but I believe if it's transferring to a GD account they handle it, regardless of the originating registrar. If transferring away from GD it may require different protocol.

I recently purchased a name from GD aftetmarket auctions that was with a different registrar, and GD took care of the transfer to my GD account after the normal time frame, which took about a week to arrive in my account.

Appreciate the responses guys, i have never bought straight from godaddy 'buy now' at a set price before, only in godaddy running auctions so its new to me. I couldn't believe the cheek of asking me to now buy a transfer in fee and have to contact the buyer and organise the transfer in after buying the domain at a set price then getting to checkout and godaddy adding their extra $100+ for fees etc.

Sometimes with godaddy purchases a free transfer is included with the sale. That’s why sometimes when I’ve sold a domain at Afternic that was actually bought off GDiddy, I’ve received the godaddy transfer request even before the payment cleared.

If you bought a domain name that is not registered with Godaddy you will need to buy a transfer. In fact we force you to buy one when you check out. We started doing that years ago because many people would buy the domain and then not buy the transfer and it was often hard to complete the transaction.
It will be 5 days while we verify the funds before we open up the communication between the buyer and seller inside your auction account. In the won section of auctions.godaddy.com it will have a link near the domain you won to contact the seller and get the authorization codes from them. Once you have that you can complete the transfer of the domain name into your account.
If you wanted an instant transfer the domain would already have to be at GoDaddy or you could list the domain name for sale with Afternic.com at a buy now price and opt it into the fast transfer process and then it would automatically move.

The domain that i bought is at godaddy and i have an account at godaddy, yet the people at godaddy emailed me after i purchased at godaddy 'buy now' that after 6 days i then need to pay for a transfer, contact the owner and organise the push myself! Did you read all if the posts above btw or are you a robot?

Godaddy evolve year by year as he mentioned, but every time they “evolve” they take advantatge against the customer, charging extra fees, like that “must-do-transaction.” Very disappointed with them. It is a company pretending selling selling selling selling selling, but for me it seems they are leaving customer service and customer happiness apart. Year by year I am asking why still I need to reg. Domains with them.
Of course they are gods sending emails reminding you: hey! You forgot your domains your cart is full! Come back and we give you a fake 40% disccount, and when you will apply still be the same price! if you buy now.... still letting me down more day after day by their hungry about selling and selling...
Sorry @Joe Styler , but as you are reading this month, we are just not a few who are complaining...
I hope one day we will be listened and things will change somehow.

One thing they’ve gotten very good at is not letting you off the phone each time you call - for any reason - without trying to sell you some much needed “upgrades” (always plural) to your account.

In other words every tech support call always ends in a sales pitch.

Lucky you! Every time I have called them they just send me an email with instructions about ( how to solve the problem by yourself...) so the problem never get solved...
EDITED—
Other platforms, don’t have a phone just a live chat, but got two problems and got solved...

If the domain is registered at GD, then it's a matter of a simple push into your account. It doesn't sound like the domain is registered at GD. Domain transfers occur between 2 separate registrars.

Because of all the extra fees is the very reason i dont use godaddy anymore, any domains i have in there im either letting drop or transferring them out.

For example you buy a domain at godaddy closeouts for $8 and after all the extras ends up costing $30+

Something is rotten in Denmark.

This had me confused too initially because all the conversation was around a registrar transfer. But now realizing the domain (I will assume) is registered at GoDaddy, this entire scenario is just a big bowl of wrong.

My suspicion is that possibly a GoDaddy Auctions agent or representative incorrectly marked this transfer, especially judging by the response you got in your first post (Discussion Notes).

The GoDaddy reps seem to be getting really sloppy IMO. In my last reply from them, they didn't even get my name right. Doesn't instill a lot of confidence. In fact at present I have none at all, no confidence at GoDaddy whatsoever.

What extras? As far as I know they are optional.

I still have a hosting account and about 100 domains most all of them associated with active websites with godaddy. I think GD is okay.

One thing I can’t figure out is why WordPress blogs load so slowly on initial load on a GoDaddy hosted server. The WP is even something that their Installatron installs by itself so it should load faster.

My own custom websites that I wrote the code for load fast fast fast but click to go to the WP blog that is a sub folder on my website and it takes like 20 seconds to load. Very odd.

Why do WP blogs load so slowly on GDiddy hosted servers?

I’ve phoned them about this but they have no suggestion and then switch the topic of my call over to a sales pitch.

For me in the uk if i purchase from godaddy closeouts i got to pay all the following.

$15+ renewal fee
Icann fee
And 20% tax on top

No other registrar charges these, ok the renewal fee is expected but godaddy renewal fees are a ripoff. Especially when they also want me to pay the 20% tax

I don’t sell domains from godaddy. I host sites on it and have those particular sites mostly all registered at GD. I also host sites via a VPS at a different host.

I like Linux servers with cpanel and the GD and this other host I use are good for those. There are better but there are also worse. Lot of plus and minus when it comes to comparing hosts no one seems to have it all.

Seems like a lot of domainers do still use GD tho.

You could try an account change but either way, you have to contact the buyer.

$15+ renewal fee
I guess you don't have enough domains there to justify DDC? But you're right, if I didn't have that discount I probably wouldn't buy the closeouts, unless it was a peach.
