The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Aside from ICANN annual registry fees, isn’t $0.18 each name?
This is just the Icann tax. The cost paid to registry is more like $7.85 for a .com if I'm current.

How is it "all 300K with BIN", if about 35% of them say "Request Price"?

he would have to sell 41 names a day for 20 years to get rid of all 300k :O

Some good ones in there but having to pay out 3m in reg fees every year would be criminal, surely he must be bringing in at least 4/5m to make it worth the while, 5 million a year at 5,000 average per sale would require 1000 sales... possible but not easy work

You don't know that for certain. Large portfolio holders, especially ones that are outspoken like Mann help to market this business to the thousands of domainers that hold millions of domains that ICANN makes money from. Every single time he goes on Twitter and boasts about his latest sales, makes the thousands of domainers continue to hold onto their crap portfolios hoping for the chance of a sale. If there is anyone that would get a discount I would easily assume it would be Mann. It makes perfect business sense in my eyes.

Here we go again.
Belive me I know.

I cant imagine dealing with 300k domains. Far too big a bet with far too much cash committed for me. Huge business.

He should build his brand and sell as a company.

You think he doesn't have a brand already? I think he could never sell that bunch of average-to-rubbish domains to GoDaddy. Admittedly there are some nice domains there, in the minority. C'mon 20-45 character domains ain't going to sell really quickly. Any of those that appeal to anybody, are going to be looking for shorter equivalents. He needs to sell 1 $50K+ domain a week to just cover his renewals. I think that's a tall order. Even for him. It doesn't look like a viable business proposition, from where I'm sitting. I try to keep my portfolio under 10 characters.

I wouldn't want to *have* to sell 50k each and every week to break even. That's some serious pressure in any business let alone with domain names.

He probably has long term registrations in place. He probably bought 5 or 10 years at the time of registration.

Even still, with 300,000 domain names, that's a huge nut to cover.

Funny thing is, to have 300,000 domains you just need to acquire about 820 domains a day for one year.....I could do that. :)

Shameless self promotion. But I like it. The more tweets about secondary market domains, makes more end users snoop around other websites. I just wish there were more secondary market sellers who rank in the serps.

Anybody know besides the well known registries and portfolio owners who ranks at least page 3 to 5 in google as a small independent? I have never seen any when I looked.

50k Overhead like that is huge for this business imho. Didn’t he tweet he was looking for outside investors? Thought someone posted that here awhile back.

He should drop 99% of the names and become profitable. Huge majority of them are worthless, but he gets lucky sometimes with uneducated buyers paying 20 k for worthless name. Its a numbers game or hoarding issue? You decide.

approx $3m a year in renewals, but he probably gets some sort of discount due to the volume

You can get a discount without the volume as well. Stay in touch :)

Money can't buy time

Time doesn't need money

At some point he'll either have to pass them on or sell up or let them all expire etc

I would have thought if gd or donuts put the right dough on the counter in a lump sum to buy the portfolio as a whole I reckon it would be difficult to turn down

300,000 domain names, that's crazy!

That's probably around $2.5-2.7 million in renewals per year, i know Mike Mann makes some nice sales, but is he making that much?

Too much garbage there and pricing is very random too! Some names close to 6 figures that many wouldn't pick at a drop...

It's a second job just to manage all these 300k domains...

Well Dynadot for one has 2 levels of discounted pricing, regular price for com is $9.99 but if you spend $500 a year you get coms for $8.75 (including renewals) and if you spend $5000, you get coms' for $8.50.

Epik has the lowest registration fee I know of at 8.10 if you prefund your account (that is what I paid on the last prefund). That price is good whether you buy one or a thousand .coms.

Someone else said it already, but there is a bottom number for domain registration from ICANN that is about 7.80 or so (unless it is a below cost price from a reseller to hook unsuspecting domainers into pay per change, stupid high cost renewals, etc. gimmicks).

Yep, Mike knows what works. If you don't ask for a higher sale price, you wont get it.

The domain market is crapping out and not slowly, as pointed out simply a sign of the times. Other big names will/are offloading no doubt.

With so many domains he should be running his own registrar.
That's what I have always thought ...... wonder why not ?
