Will you still have these concerns if a large corporation such as McDonalds made their own emoji, and started marketing on their .com? or . or .

How would somebody find the McDonlads emoji? Will it be pre-programmed on to peoples mobile keyboards? Will you have to search McDonalds emoji?

emoji domain shows like a nice face, but when people input, do they have to type codes?

If two solar company both use a "sun" icon as their domain, will that be confusing people?

If burger king and mcdonalds both use a cute burge as domain, or ...

Very very ballsy of you to have the HBO Vice crew into your house and for you to host them for hours talking about the crazy things we do as domainers. I would assume they could have easily slammed you and/or domainers in general but they did not spin any negativity into the video piece at all!

good point, right now those of you on windows 10 need to enable TABLET MODE in lower right and then a virtual keyboard will show up.

But even sites like namepros have been slow to implement

so some challeneges, but heck, what do mobile internet look like in 1998.....

good point, the SUN or HAMBURGER .ws emoji can only be owned by one person,

so you type in smartphone keyboard, it converts to punycode, goes thru any and every internet device. browser and router, and then comes out and renders based on browser.

Even if images different, if you own the hamburger.ws , you own it and no one else.

yup, still has the same Punycode. So new Hamburger shows up in place of old one, but these are text characters, not images, in other words its the browser, social network or software that make the emoji - the underlying unicode and punycode stay the same.

another reference is to think of analog versus digital in music.

Digital music takes a sound and converts into bits, then transmits, then converts back out in player.


no different than if a browser changed form Times New Roman to Arial font, just differences in images are more varied than fonts.

Looking at the green heart .ws domain...

I was surprised to learn there are different puny codes for different color hearts.

ie.
xn--qei = red heart
xn--5r8h = green heart

Too bad punycode isn't coded with something such as xn--5r8 is the standard for heart emoji's. And the last character correlates to the specific color. Though, I suppose to the point of emoji adaptation, codes will be replaced by images. I say this as somebody who not very well versed in punycode. So this suggestion could contradict current procedure.

When I google heart emoji, I see multiple heart emoji's. And the first result signifying the red heart emoji, isn't even red.

wont be images, will always be digital, numbers, has to be... analog is gone. Our phones arent our voices, our music is digital - not vinyl, are images are digital, numbers not paint...

the best way to think of the codes is as if they were CHARTS, like the periodic table of elements..

imagine a piece of paper with 20 rows by 20 rows

when you type a character the keyboard, software, router, instead of actually having a computer know what a letter is, it only knows a place in a chart

so A is row 1, column 1
b is row 1 column 2
c is row 1 column 3

so with emoji, they can just put the base black image fo each emoji in a box, and when we type we say put in this box.

ok , back to punycode, the first emoji come from zany fonts like wingdings, so the HEAVY BLACK HEART was in a group of characters allowed in a font....

but the later colored hearts are in true emoji "charts"

ive probably made some mistakes and over simplified, but thats why the codes look different - cant reorder the box and still be backward compatible.

It is just because the varying heart versions were developed at different times, not because someone is not well versed in punycode.

eg. red heart is from 1992, green heart is from 2010.

So anytime you see a xn--*** (xn-- followed by 3 characters), it is old-school from the 90's.

xn--**** (xn-- followed by 4 characters) is newer Unicode version.
