This thread is to share domains you've Won at Auction or Bought at Closeout

Closeout = After auction but before completely dropping from registrar and before going into redemption.

I *HIGHLY* suggest to post only after the domain is transferred *INTO* your account!

Go here if it's a domain you bought that was available at anytime for "hand registration": Your Reg of the Day
Go here if it's a domain you snapped / "drop-catched" after "Pending Delete": Your Snap of the Day

Feel free to disguise the domain like Slash // dot // com or any o|t|h|e|r w a y you want.
IMPORTANT: *If* someone does disguise their name, please respect them by quoting them directly, or copy/paste them directly.

Things to optionally include (or just simply post the domain name):

  1. What you paid for the domain(s), or the price range, or no price info at all.
  2. Any information, reasons or hard data (traffic, CPC, etc) that lead you to buy the domain(s).
  3. Where (or who) you acquired the domain from.
  4. How many other bidders there were.
  5. Whether the domain was "expired" or not.
  6. Whether the domain was at "closeout" or not.
  7. The history of the domain.
  8. What you see the domain being used for.
  9. Who a potential buyer could be.
  10. Anything else you want to share .. these are just possible ideas not "rules" ;)

Why this thread?

After my first year of specifically domaining, I'm finding myself more and more curious about not just who beat me in various auctions .. but also who I might have beat out to a (hopefully) great domain name. At this particular stage I don't really drop-catch or hand-register openly available domains much so don't really venture into those discussions much. Thought it would be cool to have our own thread for those of us focused on auctions.

Plus I figured with all the talk of auction integrity and shill bidding, that if people did choose to share wins from various platform, it would be useful to have that information all in one place.

Please note that in NO WAY am I implying that people should or should not publicly share what they've bought .. that should be your own personal decision. However, if you are going to specifically post what you won, then sometimes it could be both fun AND useful to know who you were bidding against.

Who knows .. if you find yourself competing over the exact same domains with the same people over and over then you might even want to consider partnering on some bigger domains you might not have afforded otherwise.

I guess I'll start with a little backlog of some of my names from the last few weeks to get things started. Don't forget that you should never post names that have not transferred into your account yet because it could signal the original owner and remind them to renew the domain before it belongs to you (then you lose the domain:
  • Regent Travel // dot // com
  • Stock Market FAQ // dot // com
  • Branding Startups // dot // com
  • MVP Freight // dot // com

These 4 domains probably represent my typical value domain purchases .. there are dozens of rather good domains like these that pass every day .. many of them get found by multiple buyers thus driving up the price .. but sometimes even good domains like these can slip through the cracks relatively unnoticed. But what you get in low cost .. you do pay for in time spent scanning the various lists. I easily put in 2-3 hours daily just scanning lists and getting my daily watchlist spreadsheet organised.

Travel, Stocks and Transport are all good solid industries with solid $$ behind them .. I'm pretty confident that acquiring them at $xx is a no-brainer (at least 1 was at closeout)

Same holds true for the branding name .. because it's our own industry, these kind of names tend to be liquid. I'm still deciding a final "brand" for my own domain marketplace (will likely continue to use Ategy.com as a holding for all my online "stuffs" .. whatever they turn out to be .. lol

Another one I got not too long ago:

QuadHawk // dot // com

I really LOVE this as a brand for drones. 95% of them have 4 blades (Quad) .. and there isn't much more powerful in the sky than a hawk. Plus it just sounds amazing and powerful together rolling off the tongue. Short punchy .. only 8 letters .. 2 syllables. These are going to be on the shelves of a hobby store in the near future for sure! :)

Again .. curious to know what you all think as well as seeing some of your own auction/closeout grabs?

Nice .. will look into it .. they seem to officially spell it QuadHWK .. but certainly could still work! :)

Thank you. That was my thought as well when I picked up the name. I got it on discount BO. TBH, I was surprised that I won and it wasn't picked up by HD or pushed to auction.
Co-incidentally, I never received the confirmation e-mail from DC about catching the domain and only realized it today when I noticed a charge on my card.. But happy with this one

Ah .. I actually started this thread to separate Auctions/Closeouts from Drop Catches .. lol .. but really good get all the same (I might have to start looking into some drop catching sooner than later now .. lol)! :)

Nice one .. I think I saw that not too long ago .. seems I was working (real world job) and couldn't participate.
LimoInc or LimosineInc (in com) also went the same day I think? Not 100% sure though .. but great domain .. lots of smaller transport businesses are going to be starting with uber type stuff .. you'll definitely find a buyer sooner than later! :)

I too hope so. Majorly because as per Namebio, Noun+Inc has mostly done great.

One of the examples I could recollect is WomenInc fetching 5-figures.

This is something worth holding onto. :)

Pretty strange, however, that no more than 3 bidders were there at the time of auction.

Oops. Sorry. TBH, I considered the discount dropcatch akin to a closeout. My apologies though.

A few more to start the day:

RideOffer // in com (Uber/Lyft type service)
ManageTheDamage // in com (Reputation management all the way)
LookingForwardToIt // in com (Common saying .. could represent almost anything)
SeriousSaver // in com

lol .. no apologies necessary .. seriously good buy either way! ;)

I'm amazed at some of the AMAZING domains I get with even NO other bidders .. *MORE THAN HALF* the domains I've posted here so far were domains where I was the only bidder (or on closeout which is the same thing but cheaper) .. the real cost is spending the time going through the lists. I post a bunch of names on my daily list .. but obviously keep the best ones I'm interested hidden (like most of the ones I've listed here obviously .. lol)

Yes but in all their articles they spell it QuadHawk which is how a potential customer will search for it. Easy sale in my opinion.

I bought jeunemaman.com, a closeout from your recent lists :)
It means young mom in French. The market for French domain names isn't strong but I feel this one has excellent branding potential. It's also taken in .fr & .ca

This is a real lesson especially for new investors. Even if the name doesn't make sense to you at first it could be valuable when translated. Many gems slip through the cracks since most don't take the 15 seconds to put it through a translator.

Yeah .. I obviously saw that one since it was on my list. I'm an English mother tongue Montrealer .. so I also speak french (grammar and spelling is far from perfect though) .. I was on the fence with it but decided not to go with it (obviously since I put it on my "public" shared list .. lol). Mainly because I already have a handful of truly killer one word French .co's and a handful of longer but strong .com's. It's a good brand for possibly maternity fashion .. good money in that! Anyhow .. glad you're finding good stuff from my lists! :)

DiscreteCare // dot // com
AddMeaning // dot // com
BiggestTrend // dot // com
Paxay // dot // com
Shwix // dot // com

I totally LOVE Discrete Care .. such an amazing brand for an ever growing and super lucrative healthcare/eldercare industry.

Add Meaning is perfect for self-help type service.

BiggestTrend is a no brainer tech ecommerce type brand/site.

As for the two 5L .. I just liked the sound of them .. particularly Shwix .. so much fun to say! :)

OfficeSolar // dot // com
TaoSolar // dot // com

TopMontreal // dot // com
MontrealCourier // dot // com
MontrealWireless // dot // com

It's hard for me to miss out on a Solar domain after the number of times @Domain Shane has drilled it into our heads on @DomainSherpa .. lol. A lot of the ones I see are crap .. but if I can get meaningful ones for cheap I'll grab them. With Office solar I just see all the companies in the future trying to squeeze in as much green energy as possible as carbon taxation and cap and trade starts to kick in a little more seriously over the coming years. Tao is a very broad and popular Chinese term almost religion .. plus China is pumping out like 90% of the world's solar panels .. I like this one!

As for the Montreal names .. that's where I'm from and live. Just helps a bit to have a few local names to give as examples when talking to people locally about domaining. 3+ million people in Montreal .. so it's a fair sized market .. although the split/dual language (English/French) issue makes everything online more complicated than it should be!

LionKeeper // dot // com
- I love this as a killer security brand .. could be a lot else as well

RoseTiger // dot // com
- great brand for a company that wants to convey feminine strength (think women's razors or something)

LoveToSweat // dot // com
- LoveToSweat is a nice brand for a personal trainer or a gym

ChargeBTC // dot // com
- For a company that specialises in helping other companies set up for customers to pay with BitCoin (aka BTC)

LiveHoldem // dot // com
- Streaming poker .. still tons of people that play and follow the big names and like to watch

HaRadio // dot // com
- Obvious great brand for comedy radio station

SausageMarket // dot // com
- THE slang term for gay dating .. best name for gay online site

CryptoDisco // dot // com
- Even if Crypto and Disco have nothing to do with each other, I think this is such a fun and memorable brand that it works. However .. if someday crypto is involved in music rights or legal enforcement of music distribution, then this will be worth a kazillion dollars! lol

EvilUnicorn // dot // com
BadPussycat // dot // com
- Just two fun catchy and memorable generic animal brands

One two word domain in net in battery niche (gd for 211$ 2 years back. Put some previous pages from archive put adsense earning 5721$)
Another domain in com in low used car niche (gd closeout for 5$ one year back adsense earning 1800$)

Like that I have around 50 domains (out of which 15 domains have adsense earning right now adsense averaging 400$ per month though declining)
By the way I have full time job & have 2year old kid. Time for searching and bidding in auction is very difficult for me now. As I am from India, most of the gd auction closes after midnight, so it is also a big problem for me.
