Have you been in a situation when you sit down to do some research to find good handregs, find a few good names, then you go look where you can register them for less at the moment, put the names into the registrar and find out someone has already registered the name, the name you thought was going to be yours.

Mine is TokenDoctor.com

Using internic dot net to check availability of pending registrations is always a safe option.
how do you use it. I am on there and I can't see how to check pending registrations... do they have list of dropped names or what?

Go to the 'who is' tab and enter the name...if someone has it the data will pull up. This is how I have been using it at least...if it is not registered then I continue research.

Yes, Dynadot provides Domain tasting service that allows you to register a domain and test it during 5 days. If you don't like this domain now you can request for refund and cancellation of a domain. Money tat you spent on this domain will funded in your Dynadot account.

No, they are binary (no drop lists, etc).. when you type in a name it shows as either being already registered or still available:

Happens a Lot. Its usually been 1-2 days after i checked for a domain. Probably this is what is driving impulse hand registering :)

Wow! I hadn't thought of it this way. So with registrars who employ these tactics, the very real threat of them taking attractive names for themselves could create a situation where sales of registrations increase for them generally. Questionable behaviour indeed.

I just missed flipbitcoins.com, and it looks as if Pheenix grabbed it.

oh wow... that was a nice domain imo. it is privacy so we can't see who took it. guess the person registered it via pheenix

Hi domainers

You should know that your first impressions sometimes are not fully rational. And especially when you are losing some names, you feel even more values the losing name has.

Body, this is too emotional.

The best way is to hold it for a while, justify the name, and make a rational decision based on your research, analysis, and data.

You must have experiences that: some names which gave you very nice first impression, would more and more dislike. Eventually the name has nothing value and on market no one really give it a shit. Only yourself thought it worth a million.

Man, wake up

Not 100% but to some extent i agree. 2 yrsback when i saw a 3 letter.info domain free but when i was just about to pay the last page showed that domain is already taken.

Then i checked the whois and i was surprised to know that it was registered a few seconds back only which was later confirmed by the registrar customer careand they said it is merely a coincidence rarely this happens...

But this raises a question that can it be such a coincidence? May or not be.....!!

It has happened to me many times. I remember two names at the moment (but there are many more):

Thailand (dot) fr + Alpha (dot) consulting

I used to make almost all my income from Thailand related websites 2003-2013. Have had some good Thailand related domain sales as well ($xxxx each). However, Thailand is "Thaïlande" in French!

not even sure if that's good :P. frankly.net sold for 4k, so the .com must've been a solid thing. But .org would be the next bet. . . Info? Idk.
