Hi all,

I consider to buy a strong keyword .tv

The combination looks stunning and is regged with over 30 extensions but the reg fee is suddenly 530 dollar as it is recognized as a premium name by the registrar

In general i would like to know your .tv experience, sales or names that you hold with .tv extension so i can figure out if it is worth it to take the risk. I'm normally only with .com but i would like to take some risks.

Premium renewals are often at new gtlds not .tv

Some simple rules:

All .tv names registered after 18-Mar-2010 have normal renewal fee
All .tv names that are not at ENOM have normal renewal fee. Only ENOM hosts .tv names with high renewal fees and this only if registered before March 2010.
All names that were at ENOM, had premium renewal fees and drop, continue
with normal renewal fee.

No offence but the fact you are not aware means very little.

.tv has only, in certain cases, premium reg fee, not renewal (the one with premium renewals can be the ones regged before March 18th 2010).

Generally speaking .tv does very well with "video centric" keywords and during the years has had regular and great sales.
The only "cons" is the fact that is not a "liquid" extension, so don't expect to quick flip it.

I agree on the aware part.

It's just crazy as it is a dropped available name and i paid the usual reg fee and then the registrar comes back with 530 dollar or a refund. Just a weird way on selling prems over your back and bait you. Now i can wait for a refund.

I thought that .tv was going up as i heard some rumours but it feels more like a drain as big names are dropped

I've seen them too. I was surprised that someone who calls himself domainnamebroker comes with such a short non explained answer. No offense

Premium names you see drop are 99% of the time regged before March 18th and still has premium renewal.
Which registrar did you use if I may ask?

We are not aware of any popular website based on .tv extension, so we find no value in it.

For any gamer age 10- 30, Twitch.TV is the most popular site for watching people play. Immense viewership.

There is ample usage of .TV and occasional aftermarket sales. While I still have a .TV portfolio I have dropped ~70^ of the .TV names I once held. .TV is not easy to sell and I would not really recommend .TV as a TLD to invest in. I am sure others will disagree but it is kind of odd that some reported five figure sales years later are still undeveloped If you want to develop a video-oriented channel, then .TV is a great fit for a video-oriented website.

Does it matter to us domainers whether buyers develop their domains or not?

Great! How did you sell it? In or outbound? Which platform etc. Hope we can see the name after closure.

It's inbound, hasn't sold yet but close, I knew who the potential buyers were so if they didn't contact me, I was going to contact them after some time. I will share after it finalizes.

My advice, when buying .tv, .co, .io etc is that you must know who you're going to sell it to, many successful sellers don't do that but I do it and I know it works better because you can do outbound marketing for a domain which has potential buyers you can contact. Buy strong one word only, no 2 word, acronyms (unless great), etc

Yeah thats the thing, is it worth the risk of 530 bucks. I think so but not sure if there is any buyer. Although 20 tlds are regged of it

Does it make sense with the TV as television?

Is the renewal also $530 or it is just a one-time payment?

Yes it makes a lot of sense thats why. .
530 isn't the renewal thats the reg fee! And most probabely renewal too..

You really like the domain so you should probably register it.

Also consider you might keep it in your portfolio for the next 5 years - will cost you $2650 and if you think you can still sell it for a good profit after 5 years, definitely go for it.

Its all about your budget and your approach to domain investment. If you like to keep your portfolio small and keep the quality high then I think it is safe to buy. But if you have hundreds of domains than it might give you a hard time when it is renewal time.

Wishing you the best hope you will figure out the best option for your investment.

Guys, again, .TV regged after March 18th 2010 doesn't have premium renewal but, in some cases, just renewal reg fee.
So if you reg it next year you'll pay something between 24 and 35$ depending on the registrar

Are you certain? Does this price list only apply to Dynadot? Earlier this year, I posted here about On.TV being bought by Pheenix themselves, never appeared in their website to bid on nor two other drop services. At the time, Someone posted this link for me to review.

The name that i want is indeed on that list. Althought most of them are incorrect. China.tv isn't 22.50 anymore

i have several 'premium'. tv domains but have standard renewal. It seems that even after the domains were dropped and re-registered, these domains are still called premium, premium renewal for the domain you are willing to buy is not necessary but i recommend contacting. tv registry and making sure
