MozillaReality - MR
Well, that is great to see someone uses MR for what some folks are using XR for.
LOL
But keep in mind that folks will be buying VR or AR software/apps for their device.
How else
will you identify what you need or want and know that software is compatible with a Rift, Vive or Hololens.

Same statements I made about XR.
So now we have MozMR to go with WMR & XR
...LOL...
MuchAdoBoutNutn
Mozilla wants one interface translator going forward. It works for them. The term fits what they are doing.
But it does not mean software/apps/experiences can do the same.

...but I can see that Holo term getting more important for the AR future as this progresses now...

A) branding - if im a company, i want to do both AR&VR ill want to brand with a brandable or with A spectrum (call it XR or MR for some)
B)looking for content, i might look for specifics or ill look for the spectrum offering everything in the site with categories.

Train is moving already.. Its not VR AR race lol..

But as 1 industry leader said it will get foggy before it will be clearer lol..

Yeah, I would agree! Maybe I'm just convincing myself I haven't wasted a ridiculous amount of money with my holo investments, but AR is going to be mainstream way before 'mixed reality' is. And the current trend already is for anything involving humans and animals in AR is to brand it 'holo' (and this is just simple smartphone AR). So by the time real 'mixed reality' is here, meaning 3D people and objects interacting with your real world vision, the use of the term 'holo' will already be embedded in mainstream consciousness and usage.

Well I have wasted a lot of money on subpremium holo names, so the above statement is partly wishful thinking, but hopefully I will get my money back in the end. Now that I've realized how much I'm spending on renewals I'm having to drop a lot of holo names, just when 'Holo' might be starting to happen. Forces me to face up to how much $xx,xxx in wasted renewals fees I've spent over the last 3 or 4 years.

Sure that wasn't Scoble talking about his harassment claims?

At least we can be sure that a man of his integrity will jump back on the 'mixed reality' bandwagon the moment any top company (aside from Microsoft) start using it again.

Lol, Scoble is a funny man, im not talking about him..

If ill base my investments on him or any individual in particular ill be in trouble.

Well I sincerely hope this doesn't have any negative effects on the 'mixed reality', 'augmented reality', 'holo' or whatever we want to call it industry.

The guy already killed Google Glass.

Lol it will only affect his career.

I think the only affect this will have on tech in general is the death of one tech career . The tech is bigger than one person

I don’t know if anyone saw my edited post yesterday, i shouldn’t have edited it as this thread is all about opinions and i gave mine, i edited it because i know there is a lot of MR investors on here, so didn't want to be that ‘arsehole’ thinking he knows everything and how i know for a fact what’s going to happen when i don’t.

I’ll rephrase what i said though, my ‘opinion’ is the MR abbreviation is bad for virtual tech, it’s creating confusion, Microsoft the biggest advocates of the term are even confused and contradicting themselves (judging by their own definitions of it) and confusion is never good for consumers and if companies like Mozilla are now jumping on the term, well then there’s one big train crash is coming up.

How you define what VR/AR represents is not going away and these terms are leaps and bounds ahead of where MR is, so what is the point of MR?

I don’t even know what all this ‘spectrum’ stuff means either, people don’t care about that, the average Joe just wants to put a headset on and have some fun.

We as investors cant change a thing, what we can do is look for relevant names that are with attractive keywords and relevant techs. In time the definitions for MR and XR will be clearer ..

About your post, i think its great that you put you opinions inside! The more opinions=more info =better knowledge for everyone.
I'm investing mainly in MR XR AR and i think the most important thing is not being emotional about pur investments..

And with no regards to that, it looks like the market is picking up, many inquiries and offers lately.

I'm sure that the MR term will have it's use cases.
And that should not have the broad term implication VR or AR does. In fact AR does not have the wide implications VR does.
But as you can see Moz had a very specific use for a software device that is a wide hardware interpreter.
It's not a retail shelf product either.
For the Moz software, It's like a universal motor mount for your car that can accept any engine (like WMR).
While you might use it, you really don't care what it is called. It just works.
But it is a good example of how this is likely to be used going forward.
So it competes with what some use/promote XR for but not VR or AR.

As far as the WMR platform, it's still a Windows based standard of the same. We have yet to see what the Linux folks will cook-up and that is part of what drove MS to take the lead on this or possibly parish.
They are always 1-3 years behind. Especially with GUI's. Personally, I am tired of them copying the Windows GUI that I don't like to begin with. But Samsung is working with Linux as we speak.

But where I seen the mistakes being made last year in domains was that folks were treating this MR as a separate tech and not as a set of universal standards. Reg'n MR + any keyword that worked with VR.
It's just not the way it's going to work. But it will have it's specific uses.
And while it might be used in 'some' branding, it will be very hard as always to put a dent in that wide swoop of possibilities of need.
Most of what has been reg'd have been pure generics and not branding names.
No individual or group can corner the market on brands and make money.
You just have to take a 'few' chances, have some luck and pray a lot.

But it is interesting to see that now WMR compatible HMD's outnumber VR and AR specific HMD's we have not seen the need yet and is where I expected it to be.
But I was watching the marketing and continue to do that. My final judgment will come after these are in the market in March/April and we see what folks start looking for in the way of content.
And how advertisers target keywords for their adds. Those are the leading indicators.

Well don't keep the secret...
Where is the list of top 25/50 VR sites.
(I'll bet you thought I was going to ask who)
I remember a few guy's announcement of sites in the early VR Thread.
