ar.dog
be.dog

Hi, I'm new here and am not really much of a domainer, just dabbled a little. I bought these about 2 years ago with intent to develop them but never had a chance. I'm not sure whether to hold onto them or try to sell now. Any value? What would you do?

Thanks to anyone willing to offer advice.

[Edited post to shorten because it wasn't getting any response. I may have been asking too much, sorry.]

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Recently there were 2 sales publicly reported by fellow gTLD investor (gun*dog and bird*dog) for 9k each, which are fantastic names and actually makes lot of sense (if you like hunting) :)

Now your names, ar and be...why have you registered them and what was the planned route of development? As for me, they do not make a lot of sense on first look...but I might be missing something ...

I was envisioning general dog-related sites with memes, videos, blog, articles, etc., and products and ads. You're right, they definitely don't make sense in the way that gun dog and bird dog do, but I could sort of see "Be Dog" on a t-shirt and sort of humorous themes of what it is to be a dog..or "be dog."

Also, AR is the state code for Arkansas, which is where I live, so that's why I picked that one up.

Maybe I'm grasping at too many straws with trying to make those names make sense, but short urls seem to be valued a lot. I had also wondered about someone using them as URL shorteners?

Well, imo this is not going to work this way. There are hundreds of new gTLD extensions, and we can create LL (letter letter) keywords like "be" or "ar" almost with any of them, for reg fee (which is usually slight premium)

From resell point of view, the probability that someone will want exactly "be" or "ar" in .dog, and in addition will be willing to pay some premium money to a person holding them, is pretty tiny imo, as there are too many LL alternatives for reg fee currently available.

Domain name gun*dog, for example, has a great sense and is short, it is not just random LLL and therefore the achieved resell price.

Now that I was pretty critical about the names, I have a feeling you will sell be*dog for 5k tomorrow, lol. This also can happen. I kind of like this name :) I would probably keep be*dog for 1 more year, and drop the "ar" one.
Personally, I would also list this name on marketplaces, at least at SEDO, Afternic and Uniregistry, with BIN of 2K.

Thanks so much for your input. I really appreciate it!

This is kind of what I was leaning toward. They both expire in about a month, and I thought I might try to list ar.dog on a free ebay auction just to see if I could get anything at all for it before it expires. But I don't want to spend anymore money on it.

But I don't quite want to let be.dog go yet, so I think I will take your advice. Thanks again.

Hello.

We do not find value in .dog domain names.

Our advice would be to let these domain names expire.

Kind regards.

Found lolwarrior's report of the two .dog sales very interesting as I've not previously read of those two reported sales - were they reported here, or elsewhere if you don't mind.

Re the " be.dog " domain it has the advantage of brevity and and perhaps could be Tee shirt-ish slogan but IMO not in any significant numbers to pursue with any significant launch funding, again, just IMO.

They were reported on other place (forum) in internet (cannot be posted here as it would be against np rules), but I will gladly send you or anyone interested information with relevant link via email, just contact me, if you wish to learn more about above deals ).
:)

Thank you all for your opinions. I have a month before expiration to decide whether or not to renew be.dog but won't be investing much in it if I do.
