Just thought I would share a headache I had to deal with because of laziness or whatever you would call it.

I recently got a new cell phone and it was so cool to be able to use a simple app to transfer everything to my new phone from my old one.

I just looked quickly and unfortunately, when I saw my Authenticator app, I thought all was good, so I wiped the old phone clean.

Later, I realized that although I copied over the Authenticator app, it doesn't carry over all the account info inside.

I just had to go through hell clearing this up with 4 registrars...Why? Because when I set up the TFA I didn't bother to save or print the backup codes.

Lesson learned.

All is well now, but I will warn you....it's not easy to get it fixed. Especially with Enom. They are really strict and it requires like two separate telephone interviews.

Moral of the story is, be sure to use TFA, but be sure to save the backup codes. I don't usually make this type of mistake, but since I did, I won't ever, ever again.

We all forget some things when transferring phones and webhosts. But you are right, it probably won't happen to you again after all of that! Thanks for the advice but I'm sure I'll forget it when I need it most! :xf.frown:

Thanks for the heads up

I just realized that I did this with Authenticator, but I had Bittrex, GateHub, Bitstamp, etc on mine.

Had recently upgraded to IOS 11 on my iPhone and hated it because of glitches, then reverted back to IOS 10.3.3 while I still could just a week ago, but it meant wiping my phone.

Have to check to see if I wrote down the codes when I get home.

Ugh

Yep. I know the feeling. I removed all the Authenticator TFA stuff apart from 2 registrars. They weren't easy to fix. GoDaddy was particularly hard. I haven't yet even attempted to reset them up on my new phone yet, because of these difficulties. Also. There is so much I don't understand about my new phone. It's scary.

Yes, I waited for a while knowing it would be challenging. Finally got them all done. For me, Enom was the toughest.

I think most of register give us 2 way authentic, one via Authenticator app and secondary via SMS/Email.

My experience is that some use the Authenticator app and some send a text. I don't have any that do both.

So far I used this with Godaddy, but I have some other but not domain register.

Dynadot let you choose which method to use. I thought GoDaddy did too, but I could be wrong about that. The SMS/eMail method was very unreliable compared to Authenticator.
